    • Tommy John surgery scheduled
Javier (forearm) is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The right-hander landed on the injured list in late May due to right forearm discomfort and is now set to miss the rest of the 2024 campaign. Javier will also be sidelined until at least the second half of 2025 as he rehabs from the surgery. It's been a rough week for Houston pitchers, as Jose Urquidy (elbow) is also in danger of needing the procedure. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago

    • Cristian Javier to undergo Tommy John surgery
The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reports Cristian Javier will undergo Tommy John surgery.

Advice: It’s a significant hit to Houston’s already razor-thin starting pitching depth as Javier has been a mainstay in their starting rotation for the last three seasons and boasts a stellar 3.59 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 27 percent strikeout rate over 501 innings (116 appearances, 82 starts) in the majors since 2020. Given the timing of the procedure, he’s likely to miss the overwhelming majority of the 2025 campaign as well. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

    • Absent from Tuesday's lineup
Raleigh is not in the Mariners' lineup Tuesday versus the Athletics.

Advice: Raleigh had a three game hit streak, but will begin Tuesday's matchup from the bench. He did not start May 29 against the Astros, but did come off the bench for two plate appearances. In his place, Mitch Garver has the start behind the plate and Mitch Haniger is the DH. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago

    • Throws bullpen session
Diaz (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Diaz threw 21 pitches during his mound session, and manager Carlos Mendoza said afterward that there is a good chance the 30-year-old reliever begins a rehab assignment in the minors Thursday. It's unclear how many minor-league reps the Mets will give their star closer, but the fact Diaz is already able to begin an assignment likely signals that he will only require a minimum-length stint on the IL. • Edwin Díaz to start rehab assignment this week
Edwin Díaz (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday.

Advice: Díaz threw a bullpen session on Tuesday without any issues and the Mets are hoping to have one of their primary closing options back on June 11, when first eligible to return. The electrifying 30-year-old righty hit the injured list back in late May with a right shoulder impingement. He’s struggled this season, but remains arguably the best option for New York manager Carlos Mendoza moving forward over Adam Ottavino, Jake Diekman and Reed Garrett. Rotoworld Today, 2:23 pm

    • Taking seat Tuesday
Garcia is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Garcia started the previous four games but will sit Tuesday as lefty David Peterson takes the mound for the Mets. Ildemaro Vargas will start at the keystone and bat fifth. Rotowire.com Today, 12:52 pm
    • Yields three home runs
Gausman (4-4) took the loss Monday against Baltimore, allowing six earned runs on six hits and one walk in 6.1 innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Gausman gave up three home runs Monday after allowing just two over his past nine starts. The 33-year-old had notched three-consecutive quality starts prior to Monday's setback, but he has been unable to find his footing this season. Through 60.2 innings, Gasuman holds a 4.60 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP, both of which are his worst since 2019. The right-hander will look to rebound in his next start, tentatively scheduled for this weekend in Oakland. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:28 pm
    • Homers, stays hot in win
Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in a 7-4 win over the Cardinals on Monday.

Advice: Alvarez hit a two-run home run off Kyle Gibson in the third inning, then doubled and scored a run in the sixth. The homer was Alvarez's third in as many games, and he now has four multi-hit efforts in his past seven contests. While 27 RBI through 260 plate appearances is lower than expected, Alvarez is slashing .287/.362/.496 with 12 home runs and a career-high three stolen bases. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:00 pm

    • Hit hard in no-decision
Verlander did not factor into the decision in Monday's 2-1 win over the Cardinals, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings.

Advice: Verlander got into immediate trouble, allowing solo home runs to Alec Burleson and Nolan Gorman in the first inning. He labored through the next four, surrendering a total of eight hard-hit balls, including another homer by Gorman, and leaving with a 4-2 deficit. Verlander was coming off back-to-back nine-strikeout efforts, but he has now failed to reach six innings in four of his nine starts this season. In those nine games, Verlander has posted a 3.63 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 48:17 K:BB. He tentatively lines up for a road matchup against the Angels on Sunday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:57 pm
