  • Kirk McCarty nearing deal with SSG Landers in KBO
Ilgan Sports reports that left-hander Kirk McCarty is nearing a deal with the SSG Landers in the Korea Baseball Organization.

Advice: The 27-year-old southpaw was dropped from the Guardians 40-man roster in mid-November just prior to the non-tender deadline. McCarty logged a 4.54 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 26/13 K/BB ratio across 37 2/3 innings in 13 appearances at the big league level in 2022. It looks as though he'll take a guaranteed deal worth around $1 million as opposed to settling for a minor league contract stateside. Yesterday, 10:50 pm

  • Twins have not actually signed Johan Camargo
According to Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic, the Twins have not actually signed infielder Johan Camargo to a minor league contract.

Advice: It turns out, it was a case of mistaken identity. The transaction page on mistakenly listed Johan Camargo instead of Jair Camargo -- who actually re-signed a minor league deal with the club on Sunday. Johan is still on the free agent market and looking for employment. Carry on. Yesterday, 8:33 pm

  • Mike Clevinger deal with Sox worth more than $8M
Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that Mike Clevinger's deal with the White Sox will be a one-year deal and will be worth at least $8 million guaranteed.

Advice: It's likely that there are options involved that could extend the deal and incentives that could drive the total amount even higher, but Clevinger will secure himself at least $8 million on his one-year pact with the White Sox. The 31-year-old hurler makes for a nice addition to the back half of the White Sox rotation. Yesterday, 6:41 pm
  • J.B. Wendelken agrees to deal to play in Japan
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that J.B. Wendelken has agreed to a one-year contract with the Yokohama BayStars of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball.

Advice: The deal, which includes an option for the 2024 season, can run as high as $3.05 million if Wendelken his all of his incentives. The 29-year-old right-hander holds a 4.00 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 151/70 K/BB ratio over 159 2/3 innings in his career at the big league level. Yesterday, 4:24 pm
  • White Sox signing Mike Clevinger to 1-yr, $8M deal
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that free agent right-hander Mike Clevinger is signing with the White Sox.

Advice: Chicago had an open spot in their rotation and Clevinger has experience in the AL Central during his time with the Guardians so the deal makes sense. The 31-year-old has made just 31 appearances over the last three seasons due to multiple injuries. In 2022, he had a 4.33 ERA and 1.20 WHIP but had lost two ticks on his fastball since undergoing TJS in 2021. He should fill the role as a back-of-the-rotation starter and should be drafted in deeper leagues as the overpowering stuff hasn't returned since his surgery in 2021. Yesterday, 3:29 pm
  • Twins sign Johan Camargo to minor league deal
Twins signed INF Johan Camargo to a minor league contract.

Advice: The 28-year-old appeared in 52 games for the Phillies slashing .237/.297/.316 with three homers and 15 RBI across 166 plate appearances. Camargo split his time between shortstop and third base during his time in Philadelphia and gives the Twins a great depth option pending Minnesota's offseason plans and Royce Lewis' recovery from ACL surgery. • Still free agent
Contrary to a prior report, Camargo has not signed a minor-league deal with the Twins, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The Twins listed the wrong J. Camargo on their transaction page, when in fact they just re-upped on a minor-league deal with catcher Jair Camargo. Johan Camargo is a free agent. Yesterday, 1:34 pm

  • Dodgers among teams interested in Alex Reyes
Juan Toribio of reports that the Dodgers, among other teams, have shown interest in free agent reliever Alex Reyes.

Advice: the 28-year-old fireballer missed the entire 2022 season due to a multitude of injuries, including a shoulder injury that resulted in a season-ending surgery. If he gets healthy, he's a potential difference maker out of the pen. In 2021, his last healthy season, he posted a 3.24 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 29 saves, and 10 wins across 72 1/3 innings. • Headed to Japan
Wendelken signed a one-year deal with the Yokohama BayStars of the NPB on Sunday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: The deal is worth up to $3.05 million including performance incentives. The 29-year-old righty had a 5.28 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 29 innings as a reliever with the Diamondbacks last season. Yesterday, 1:10 pm
