• Registers steal in win
Edman went 2-for-5 with a walk, one stolen base and three runs scored in Saturday's 15-6 win over the Reds.

Advice: Edman has hit well to close out the campaign, posting five multi-hit efforts over his last eight games. The utility man has maintained a .246/.305/.398 slash line through 136 contests. He's added 13 home runs, 26 steals, 47 RBI, 68 runs scored, 25 doubles and four triples. Edman's bat has been a bit subpar, but his defensive versatility has helped him maintain steady playing time for the Cardinals. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:01 pm

  • Decent in September
Pallante allowed one run on four hits over one inning during Saturday's 15-6 win over the Reds.

Advice: Pallante allowed five runs over 13.2 innings in September, an improvement on the 12 runs (11 earned) he allowed in 13.2 innings during August. The right-hander has seen some high-leverage work in 2023, earning 13 holds, but just four of those have come since the start of August as he's worked in more of a middle-relief assignment. Pallante is at a 4.76 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 43:30 K:BB over 68 innings this season, a significant downturn from the 3.17 ERA he recorded in 108 innings in 2022. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:59 pm

  • Collects win over Reds
VerHagen (5-1) allowed one run on one hit and struck out one over one inning to earn the win Saturday over the Reds.

Advice: The Cardinals stormed out to an 11-0 lead after three innings, but starter Drew Rom didn't complete five frames. VerHagen was ultimately awarded the win instead of Andre Pallante, who allowed a run on four hits over one inning. VerHagen's been a decent middle reliever this year with a 3.98 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 60:26 K:BB over a career-high 61 innings across 60 appearances. That's the best he's done in the majors since 2015 with the Tigers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:57 pm

  • Knocks 14th homer
O'Hoppe went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Athletics.

Advice: O'Hoppe had one of just three hits for the Angels in the game, giving them a short-lived 3-1 lead in the seventh inning. The catcher is up to 14 homers this season, four of which have come over his last 10 games as he finishes the year in good form. He's slashing .238/.284/.503 with 29 RBI, 22 runs scored, six doubles and no stolen bases over 50 contests this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:53 pm
  • Strong in bulk role
Rosenberg threw five innings of scoreless one-hit ball while striking out six and walking none in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Saturday.

Advice: Rosenberg took over in the third inning after opener Andrew Wantz allowed one run over the first two innings. Rosenberg left in line for the win, but Ben Joyce melted down in the eighth inning to squander the Angels' lead. Over 33 innings, Rosenberg logged a 3.82 ERA despite a 1.48 WHIP and 29:14 K:BB across seven appearances (three starts). The 28-year-old southpaw is too old to be considered much of a prospect, but he could have a chance to compete for a rotation spot in spring training. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:52 pm
  • Logs 66th steal
Ruiz went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and one run scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Angels.

Advice: Ruiz swiped 13 bags in September, giving him 66 in 79 attempts this season with one game to go. The speedy outfielder hit a .305 (18-for-59) over 24 contests in September, helping him to claw back some playing time he lost after a swoon in August. He's slashing .254/.308/.346 with five home runs, 46 RBI, 47 runs scored, 24 doubles and one triple through 131 games overall. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:48 pm
  • Lifts three-run homer
Langeliers went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Angels.

Advice: Langeliers' power has surged in September -- he hit six of his 22 homers this season during the month despite batting a meager .194 (14-for-72) over his last 23 games. The catcher's blast put the Athletics ahead for good Saturday. Langeliers is at a .205/.268/.413 slash line with 63 RBI, 52 runs scored, 19 doubles, four triples and three stolen bases through 135 contests in his first full major-league season. • Homers in three-hit game
Gelof went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, three total RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Angels.

Advice: Gelof popped a solo shot in the first inning and then contributed RBI singles in the eighth and ninth to help the Athletics pull off a comeback win. The second baseman had gone just 5-for-29 over his previous eight games before Saturday's three-hit effort. He's up to 14 homers, 32 RBI, 40 runs scored, 14 stolen bases and a .272/.342/.513 slash line over 68 contests this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:42 pm

  • Posts quality start
Boyle (2-0) allowed three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out six over seven innings to earn the win over the Angels on Saturday.

Advice: Boyle was sharp until the seventh inning, when he allowed all three runs and three of his four baserunners. He faced the minimum through six frames thanks to a double play. Boyle made three starts in a late-season audition, holding his own to the tune of a 1.69 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB over 16 innings. The 24-year-old right-hander maintained a 3.84 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 168:93 K:BB over 117.1 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. There are still flaws in his game, namely allowing too many baserunners, but he could be good enough for Oakland's rotation if he shows well in spring training for 2024.
