• Mark Vientos homers, reaches four times in win
Mark Vientos went 2-for-3 with a solo homer on Monday, powering the Mets to an 8-7 victory over the Nationals.

Advice: Vientos put the Mets ahead with a gargantuan 420-foot homer off Nationals starter MacKenzie Gore in the fourth inning and wound up reaching base safely in four of his five plate appearances in a back-and-forth slugfest at Nationals Park. The 24-year-old burgeoning slugger is making the most of his opportunity as New York’s primary third baseman in the wake of Brett Baty’s demotion, batting .327 (17-for-52) with four homers over his last 15 games. He won’t sustain a .366 BABIP forever, but he’s locked-in at the dish right now and is at least worthy of a speculative roster spot in deeper mixed leagues. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:10 pm

  • Moving rehab to Triple-A
Perdomo (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Wednesday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Perdomo was cleared for at-bats in the Arizona Complex League over the weekend, and the club has since determined that he's ready to face stronger competition. He'll likely play at least a few games at Triple-A before being activated from the 10-day injured list. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:31 pm

  • Receiving breather Monday
Newman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants.

Advice: Though he's coming off a productive weekend against the Mets in which he went 4-for-14 with a walk, a stolen base, three runs and an RBI in the four-game series, Newman will get a much-needed breather. Newman had started at shortstop in each of Arizona's last 21 games, but he'll give way to Blaze Alexander on Monday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:36 pm

  • Resuming baseball activities
Rendon (hamstring) will resume baseball activities this week, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Rendon has been shelved since late April with a partial left hamstring tear but is finally ready to begin ramping up his rehab work. It's going to be a slow process and one that will involve a rehab assignment at some point, so Rendon still figures to be several weeks away from a return. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:31 pm

  • Set to begin rehab assignment
Reds manager David Bell said Monday that Marte (suspension) is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment June 11, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Marte is nearing the end of his 80-game suspension due to violating MLB's joint drug prevention and treatment program. After ramping up his activity in the Dominican Republic, Marte will travel to the United States and will likely begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville, per Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. Bell noted that Marte will mostly play third base in his assignment, but the 22-year-old will also get some reps at shortstop and second base. Marte is eligible to return from his suspension June 27. • Getting rest Monday
Vierling is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.

Advice: Vierling will get a breather for the series opener, despite being one of the hottest hitters in the Detroit lineup at the moment. While starting each of the last seven games, Vierling recorded at least one hit and produced a .438/.455/.906 slash line overall. The 27-year-old should have a hold on a near-everyday role while he's sizzling at the plate, but his absence from the lineup Monday will open up a spot in the outfield for Akil Baddoo. • Noelvi Marte set for minor league games
Noelvi Marte, currently 59 games into an 80-game PED suspension, will begin playing in minor league games on June 11.

Advice: Marte will be eligible to rejoin the Reds on June 27, unless that’s pushed back a day or two by rainouts. If he performs well in the minors, he’ll probably be activated then, but it’s also possible he’ll need more time and get sent down for a spell. The Reds plan to keep him in the mix and second and short, but he’ll get the majority of his time at third in the minors. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:57 pm

  • DFA'd by Detroit
The Tigers designated Kennedy for assignment Monday.

Advice: Kennedy was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on April 30 after appearing in six games for the Tigers and going 2-for-10 with one stolen base, one home run and four RBI. The 25-year-old had been performing at a below-league-average level with Toledo for the season, slashing .234/.331/.383 (88 wRC+) across 163 plate appearances. Kennedy could remain with the organization if he clears waivers, but he'll cede his spot on the 40-man roster to outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy, who was called up from Triple-A on Monday. • Tigers designate INF Buddy Kennedy for assignment
Tigers designated INF Buddy Kennedy for assignment.

Advice: The move opens up a spot for Justyn-Henry Malloy on the 40-man roster. If Kennedy, who went 2-for-10 with a homer in an April stint with the Tigers, is again claimed on waivers, it’d be the fourth time that’s happened since last September. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:59 pm
