• Nabs Opening Day victory
Bello (1-0) earned the win against Seattle on Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out two batters over five innings.

Advice: Bello wasn't overpowering in the outing, notching just eight swinging strikes and two punchouts, but he got key outs when needed and kept the Mariners off the board in four of his five frames. The 24-year-old earned his first Opening Day start after posting a 12-11 record in his second MLB campaign, though last season's 7.6 K/9 and 4.24 ERA aren't typical of an ace. As Bello showed Thursday, he has the skill set to get big-league hitters out and limit damage when runners reach base, but fantasy managers are unlikely to see him as more than rotation filler as long as his punchout numbers remain low. • Goes seven strong to earn win
Lopez (1-0) tossed seven innings, allowing one run on four hits and seven strikeouts to earn the victory in Minnesota's 4-1 win at Kansas City on Opening Day.

Advice: It took Lopez just 84 pitches to complete seven frames as he walked none in a dominant effort. His lone blemish in the box score was a leadoff home run by Royals' third baseman Maikel Garcia, but otherwise Lopez was in control, throwing first-pitch strikes to 18 of the 24 batters he faced. Lopez earned his first all-star appearance in his first season with Minnesota last season and is looking to build on what was a high-quality 2023 season in which he set career-highs with 194.0 innings pitched, 11 wins and 234 strikeouts. • Picks up win on Opening Day
Berrios (1-0) went 6.0 innings and allowed two runs on six hits and one walk during Thursday's win over the Rays. He struck out six.

Advice: After kicking off 2023 with two straight losses, Berrios wasted no time getting in the win column to start the 2024 campaign, going six strong against Tampa Bay. Berrios was tagged for a solo homer by Yandy Diaz on just his fifth pitch of the game. However, he limited Rays' hitters two through five to a combined 0-for-11 with a walk. Berrios's next start is tentatively scheduled to come against the Astros. Rotowire.com 49 minutes ago
  • Knocked around in Oakland debut
Wood (0-1) took the loss against Cleveland on Thursday, allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 3.1 innings.

Advice: Wood got through three frames with just one run on his ledger, but he faltered in the fourth, allowing six straight batters to reach base with one out. The left-hander was pulled following Brayan Rocchio's two-run double, but by then he had given up five runs in the frame. Wood will be looked to for veteran leadership and rotation stability in his first campaign with the Athletics, though it remains to be seen how much he has left in the tank after compiling a 4.41 ERA over his previous three big-league seasons across the bay with San Francisco. • Struggles in 2024 opener
Eflin (0-1) went 5.2 innings and allowed six runs on six hits and one walk during Thursday's loss to Toronto. He struck out five.

Advice: Eflin was roughed up by the Blue Jays' potent offense, giving up solo home runs to George Springer, Vladimir Guerrero and Cavan Biggio. Most of the damage against Eflin came in the sixth, where he gave up five of his six earned runs. Eflin is set for another test to start 2024, with a matchup against the Rangers on tap for his next projected start. Rotowire.com 57 minutes ago

  • Zac Gallen allows one over five in win over Rockies
Zac Gallen held the Rockies to one run over five innings to pick up a win Thursday.

Advice: He allowed three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. It was not a particularly efficient outing from Gallen, as he needed 90 pitches to get through the five frames and qualify for the victory. He could have been far less effective and still come away with the win, as the Diamondbacks shellacked the Colorado pitching staff for 16 runs in a complete obliteration. Gallen will have a chance for his second victory Tuesday when he and the Diamondbacks face off against the Yankees. Rotoworld Today, 10:35 pm

  • Strikes out nine in tough loss
Ragans (0-1) tossed six innings of two-run baseball, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out nine while earning the defeat in Thursday's Opening Day 4-1 loss to the Twins.

Advice: Ragans picked up where he left off in 2023 by averaging 15.0 K/9, but not receiving nearly enough run support to earn the loss for Kansas City. The lefty hard-thrower started 12 games for the Royals last season after coming over in a mid-season trade from Texas and posted a 2.64 ERA with 89 strikeouts over 71.2 innings in those 12 starts. He's expected to continue his ascent as one of the top young left-handed starters in the American League this season. Rotowire.com Today, 10:34 pm

  • Goes six innings in opener
Eovaldi didn't factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings versus the Cubs. He struck out three.

Advice: Eovaldi was efficient Thursday, needing just 88 pitches to get through six innings, recording a quality start in the season opener. The 34-year-old right-hander went 12-5 last season with a 3.63 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 132:47 K:BB across 25 starts. The Rangers will rely on Eovaldi to anchor their rotation with Max Scherzer (back) and Jacob DeGrom (elbow) both out until at least midseason. Eovaldi's tentatively lined up for a road start next week in Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com Today, 10:33 pm

  • Racks up 11 Ks in Opening Day win
Bieber (1-0) tossed six scoreless innings against Oakland on Thursday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out 11 batters and earning the win.

Advice: He wasn't exactly facing the stiffest competition, but Bieber was absolutely dominant Thursday, recording 18 swinging strikes en route to 11 punchouts. Per Mandy Bell of MLB.com, the double-digit strikeout effort was Bieber's third such performance on Opening Day, tying him for second in major-league history with four other hurlers behind Randy Johnson. Bieber is off to an outstanding start as he looks to bounce back from last year's injury-plagued campaign during which he posted a 3.80 ERA, his worst mark since his rookie 2018 season.
