      Advice: Sanchez opened with three scoreless frames before allowing a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, then he surrendered three straight hits to open the fifth and was pulled at just 67 pitches. All three inherited runners came around to score, marking the first time since April 29 that Sanchez yielded four runs or more in a start.       Cristopher Sánchez was charged with four runs in four-plus innings Wednesday against the Red Sox.

      Advice: It was one run through four, but the Red Sox opened up the fifth with three straight singles, only one of them hard hit, and the decision was made to pull Sánchez. There’s a good argument that Sánchez deserves better at this point — he entered the game with a 2.71 ERA, and he had thrown just 67 pitches tonight — but the Phillies wanted to be aggressive with their bullpen usage tonight.     • Woo! MRI on right-hander’s forearm returns clean
      Mariners’ manager Scott Servais told reporters on Wednesday that the MRI on the forearm of injured right-hander Bryan Woo came back clean.

      Advice: Too often in situations like these, a forearm strain leads to instability in the elbow, then the MRI reveals structural damage and another talented hurler heads for Tommy John surgery. It’s very refreshing to hear in this case that Woo won’t even require a trip to the injured list and could return to the Mariners’ rotation as early as next week.     • MRI comes back clean
      Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said Wednesday that the MRI on Woo's arm "was perfectly clean," and the right-hander could be reinserted into the rotation as early as next week, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: The 24-year-old was scratched ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday against the White Sox due to what the team labeled as a "right forearm issue," but he doesn't appear to be dealing with anything too serious.     • Cleared to start Saturday
      Flaherty (back) said he's feeling better after receiving a pain-killing injection Tuesday and has been cleared to start Saturday's game against the Astros in Houston, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

      Advice: Flaherty was scheduled to play catch Wednesday and will throw a bullpen session Thursday, but unless the Tigers indicate that his back is still aching coming out of either of those activities, he shouldn't face any restrictions while he slots back into the rotation this weekend. The right-hander has delivered excellent returns on the Tigers' one-year, $14 million investment on him this offseason, as he'll head into Saturday's outing with a 3-4 record, 3.22 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 94:10 K:BB across 72.2 innings through his first 12 starts with Detroit.       Wheeler (8-3) picked up the win in Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the Red Sox, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out four.

      Advice: Two of the hits came on the first two batters he faced as Boston pushed across a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Wheeler shut the opposition down the rest of the way. The right-hander exited after 88 pitches (59 strikes) with his fifth straight quality start and 11th of the season, putting him in a tie for the major-league lead with four other pitchers.       Scott struck out three over two perfect innings Tuesday to record his eighth save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Mets.

      Advice: The lefty fired 22 of 31 pitches for strikes in perhaps his most impressive performance of the season. Scott hasn't allowed a run since the beginning of May and seems to have solved the control issues that plagued him early in the year -- over his 13-appearance scoreless streak he has a 0.73 WHIP and 18:6 K:BB through 15 innings, recording four wins, four saves and a hold.       Tanner Scott pitched two scoreless innings, striking out three to secure his eighth save in a 4-2 win over the Mets on Tuesday.

      Advice: Scott was brought in to face the heart of the Mets order in the eighth inning and then stayed in to close out the game after the Marlins gave him an extra run of cushion in the top of the ninth. The left-hander has now walked six batters and struck out eighteen in 15 innings since the start of May.       Zack Wheeler allowed one run on three hits over seven innings in a win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.

      Advice: Wheeler struck out four and walked one, so it wasn’t an overpowering outing, but he also allowed just one extra-base hit and an average exit velocity on balls in play of just 79 mph. Wheeler induced just five whiffs on 43 swings for a 12 percent whiff rate and 24 percent CSW. He’ll now take a 2.16 ERA into a tough showdown this weekend against the Orioles.
