      Iglesias pitched a perfect inning to earn a save against the Nationals on Thursday.

      Advice: Iglesias made quick work of Washington in the ninth inning, needing just nine pitches to set the side down in order. The veteran closer has converted each of his past eight save chances, allowing three runs over 10 frames during that span. Iglesias hasn't been punching out batters at his usual rate this season -- he has just 16 strikeouts through 23.1 innings -- but he nonetheless is tied for fifth in the majors with 16 saves (in 18 chances).       X-rays came back negative on Nico Hoerner’s hand after being hit by a pitch during Thursday’s game against the Reds.

      Advice: Hoerner remained in the contest and appears to have avoided serious injury after being plunked on the hand by a 96.5 mph fastball from Reds starter Hunter Greene during the early stages of the game.     • Railes Iglesias gets 16th save Thursday
      Raisel Iglesias tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Nationals on Thursday.



      Advice: The save was Iglesias’ 16th of the season, but his lack of strikeouts this season is evident. He has struck out seven in his last 12 innings.     • Edwin Díaz strikes out two in rehab appearance
      Edwin Díaz (shoulder) struck out two in a scoreless inning on Thursday in a minor league rehab appearance for High-A Brooklyn.

      Advice: Díaz threw 14 pitches (11 strikes) and was reportedly touching 98 mph on his heater in his first rehab outing as he works his way back from a right shoulder impingement that sent him to the injured list back in late May.       Mets RHP prospect Christian Scott struck out seven and allowed one run over five innings on Wednesday for Triple-A Syracuse.

      Advice: It doesn’t figure to be an extended stay back in the minors for Scott after he was shipped back to Triple-A Syracuse last week in an effort to manage his workload. The 24-year-old righty, who has established himself as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball this season, authored a dominant performance in his return to the upper minors and it’s going to be hard for New York to justify keeping him out of the big leagues for much longer if he keeps pitching like this.     • Excellent in Triple-A start
      Scott gave up one run on two hits and one walk while striking out seven in five innings Wednesday for Triple-A Syracuse.

      Advice: The Mets are keeping Scott on turn while he's waiting at Triple-A to rejoin the big-league rotation. While the Mets have five starters in the rotation currently, Scott figures to re-enter the mix as early as next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:52 am
       
    • Dazzles in fourth win
      Severino (4-2) picked up the win in Wednesday's 9-1 rout of the Nationals, allowing one run on seven hits over eight innings. He struck out four without walking a batter.

      Advice: The right-hander took a shutout into the eighth inning before three straight singles to lead off the frame finally got Washington on the board. Severino hadn't even allowed a runner to reach second base prior to that, and he left the mound having thrown an efficient 92 pitches (62 strikes). The quality start was his fifth of the year, and he'll take a 3.25 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 58:27 K:BB through 72 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Marlins.     • Enjoys big game in victory
      Heim went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two total runs and two total RBI in a 9-1 win against Detroit on Wednesday.

      Advice: Heim's biggest contribution was a two-run shot to right field in the third inning that gave Texas a 4-0 lead. The backstop added a double and a single to finish with just his second three-hit performance of the season. Heim's pace has slowed a bit after he tallied a career-best 18 homers and 95 RBI last year, but he's still giving solid production from the catcher position with a .251/.296/.372 slash line, six homers, 31 RBI, 22 runs and a stolen base through 199 plate appearances.       Fairbanks picked up the save Wednesday against Miami, striking out one over a perfect inning.

      Advice: Fairbanks tossed a perfect inning for the second consecutive night and extended his streak of appearances without an earned run to 12. He's allowed just seven hits and two walks during that stretch with 11 punchouts. Despite a nearly three-week IL stint, Fairbanks has eight saves in nine attempts and owns a 3.32 ERA overall.
