Cesar Puello has elected free agency.

Advice: He'll look for a gig elsewhere rather than accept the Red Sox' outright assignment. Puello, 29, is a career .246/.354/.347 hitter over parts of three seasons in the majors. Rotoworld.com Today, 1:43 pm

  • Tigers activate OF Troy Stokes from 45-day IL
Tigers activated OF Troy Stokes from the 45-day injured list.

Advice: Stokes did not appear in a meaningful game in 2020 after suffering a fractured hamate bone in June, before the start of summer camp workouts. The 24-year-old outfielder registered a .233/.341/.385 batting line with nine home runs and 14 stolen bases over 95 games with the Triple-A affiliate of the Brewers in 2019. • Tigers activate JaCoby Jones from the 45-day IL
Tigers activated OF JaCoby Jones from the 45-day injured list.

Advice: Jones suffered a fractured left hand on September 1 and did not return to action. The 28-year-old finished the condensed 2020 campaign with an encouraging .849 OPS, five home runs, nine doubles, 14 RBI, and 19 runs scored in 30 games played for Detroit. He should have a starting job in the outfield going into 2021. Rotoworld.com Today, 6:54 am

  • Marlins exercise $12.5M option on Starling Marte
Marlins exercised OF Starling Marte's $12.5 million club option for 2021.

Advice: Marlins CEO Derek Jeter made it known earlier this month that the team would pick up the option, and that decision has now been made official the morning after the conclusion of the 2020 World Series. Marte, 32, slashed .281/.340/.430 with six home runs, 27 RBI, 10 stolen bases, and 36 runs scored in 61 regular-season games this summer between Arizona and Miami. He missed the NLDS against the Braves after fracturing a finger on his left hand during the Wild Card Series versus the Cubs, but he should have a relatively normal offseason and currently projects as the starting center fielder for the Fish on Opening Day next year. • Betts doubles, homers as Dodgers claim WS title
Mookie Betts doubled and homered as the Dodgers beat the Rays 3-1 in Game 6 on Tuesday to claim their first World Series championship since 1988.

Advice: Betts struck out in his first two at-bats against Rays starter Blake Snell and was batting just .240/.333/.340 in 57 plate appearances between the NLCS and the Fall Classic before doubling down the left field line off reliever Nick Anderson in the bottom of the sixth inning. That double pushed Austin Barnes to third base, and Barnes promptly scored the Dodgers' first run of the night on a wild pitch. Betts then raced home on a Corey Seager fielder's choice infield grounder to put Los Angeles up 2-1. For a little insurance, Betts slugged a solo home run off Peter Fairbanks in the bottom of the eighth. It sailed a projected 434 feet to left-center, with an exit velocity of 107.1 mph -- his hardest-hit home run of the year and his longest home run since September 2019. • Orioles bringing back Wilkerson on minors deal
Roch Kubatko of MASN reports that the Orioles have re-signed Stevie Wilkerson to a minor league contract.

Advice: The contract includes an invitation to spring training. Wilkerson was released in September not long after it was revealed that the infielder/outfielder was going to miss the rest of the season with a fractured left ring finger. The switch-hitter has a career OPS of .714 with 22 homers and 42 steals in 424 games. He'll battle for a backup job with Baltimore in the Grapefruit League this spring.   Rotoworld.com Sunday, 2:02 pm

  • Cody Bellinger (back) returns to CF for Game 5
Cody Bellinger (back) is starting in center field and batting sixth for the Dodgers in Sunday's World Series Game 5 versus the Rays.

Advice: Bellinger was moved from center field to the designated hitter spot shortly before Game 4 due to some back tightness, but he's feeling well enough to play the field in Game 5. The Dodgers will throw out this lineup against Tyler Glasnow: Mookie Betts RF, Corey Seager SS, Justin Turner 3B, Max Muncy 1B, Will Smith DH, Bellinger CF, Chris Taylor 2B, Joc Pederson LF, Austin Barnes C. • Manuel Margot batting cleanup for Game 5
Manuel Margot is starting in left field and batting cleanup for the Rays in Sunday's World Series Game 5.

Advice: The Rays are using the same group of position players that they used against Clayton Kershaw in Game 1. The order is slightly different, with one change being Margot moving up one spot to cleanup after going 4-for-12 at the plate in the first four contests. Tampa Bay's full lineup looks like this: Yandy Diaz 1B, Randy Arozarena DH, Brandon Lowe 2B, Margot LF, Hunter Renfroe RF, Joey Wendle 3B, Willy Adames SS, Kevin Kiermaier, Mike Zunino, C. • Kevin Kiermaier goes deep as Rays take Game 4
Kevin Kiermaier went 2-for-4 with a homer and a pair of runs scored on Saturday as the Rays rallied to beat the Dodgers in Game 4 of the World Series.

Advice: Kiermaier blasted a game-tying solo shot off of Pedro Baez in the seventh inning to make it 6-6. He then singled off of Kenley Jansen to with one out in the ninth inning to begin the game-winning rally and scored on Brett Phillips' wild walk-off RBI single. With the two hit night, Kiermaier is now hitting .224 (11-for-49) with three homers and seven RBI through 16 games this postseason. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 9:38 pm

  • Brett Phillips delivers walk-off victory in Game 4
Brett Phillips played the role of unlikely hero in Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday, delivering a walk-off RBI single off of Kenley Jansen as the Rays rallied to beat the Dodgers 8-7.

Advice: The Rays entered the ninth inning trailing 7-6. Kevin Kiermaier got things started with a one-out bloop single, then Randy Arozarena worked Jansen for a seven-pitch walk, setting the stage for the 26-year-old outfielder who had entered the game as a pinch-runner for Ji-Man Choi in the eighth inning. After falling behind in the count 1-2, Phillips lined an RBI single into right field that scored Kiermaier from second. It also wound up scoring Arozarena -- who had been hustling the whole way -- after Chris Taylor bobbled the ball in center field, then Will Smith was unable to corral the relay throw, even after Arozarena had stumbled and fell halfway between third base and home plate. Now, rather than facing a daunting 3-1 deficit in the series, things are squared away at 2-2 heading to Game 5 on Sunday.  Rotoworld.com Saturday, 9:07 pm

  • Cody Bellinger will serve as designated hitter
The Dodgers made a late adjustment to their starting lineup for Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday, shifting Cody Bellinger to the designated hitter spot while moving A.J. Pollock to center field.

Advice: Bellinger's back apparently tightened up on him overnight. He arrived early for treatment on Saturday and was able to take swings in the cage without issue, but it was bothering him in the field which prompted the switch. Pollock, who had been slated to DH for the Dodgers, made 16 starts in center field during the regular season. • Enrique Hernandez in Dodgers lineup for Game 4
Enrique Hernandez is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Dodgers in Game 4 of the World Series against the Rays on Saturday.

Advice: As is often the case against left-handers, Hernandez finds his way into the Dodgers lineup with Ryan Yarbrough toeing the slab for the Rays on Saturday. It's the same lineup that the Dodgers rolled in their loss to Blake Snell in Game 2, with the only exception that Hernandez and Chris Taylor have been flipped in the lineup. Here's the full order for the Dodgers on Saturday: Mookie Betts RF, Corey Seager SS, Justin Turner 3B, Max Muncy 1B, Will Smith C, Cody Bellinger DH, AJ Pollock CF, Chris Taylor LF, Hernandez 2B.  Rotoworld.com Saturday, 12:54 pm

  • Mookie Betts swipes two more bases in Game 3 win
Mookie Betts went 2-for-5 and drove in a run on Friday as the Dodgers triumphed over the Rays in Game 3 of the World Series to take a 2-1 series lead.

Advice: Betts drove in the Dodgers' fifth run with a two-out RBI single off of Charlie Morton that plated Joc Pederson in the fourth inning. The superstar outfielder also continued to run wild on the basepaths in this one, swiping a pair of bases to give him four for the World Series. He's the first player since Deion Sanders in 1992 to have two or more games with multiple stolen bases in a World Series. For the postseason, he's hitting .316 (18-for-57) with a homer, seven RBI and six stolen bases. Rotoworld.com Friday, 7:57 pm

The roof will be closed at Globe Life Field for Friday night's World Series Game 3 between the Dodgers and Rays.

Advice: That tends to make the Rangers' new stadium play a lot more pitcher-friendly. The roof was open for Games 1 and 2, which featured final scores of 8-3 and 6-4, respectively. Advice: Blake Snell had not allowed a hit yet before Taylor took him deep with two out in the bottom of the fifth inning with an opposite-field shot. • Enrique Hernandez at 2B in World Series Game 2

Advice: Hernandez has primarily functioned as an off-the-bench player for Los Angeles during this 2020 postseason run, and he's been brilliant in that role. Now he'll get a chance to start in Game 2 with the Rays throwing left-hander Blake Snell. The full lineup for the Dodgers, who are currently up 1-0 in the best-of-seven Fall Classic: Mookie Betts RF, Corey Seager SS, Justin Turner 3B, Max Muncy 1B, Will Smith C, Cody Bellinger CF, A.J. • Kiermaier homers in Rays' WS Game 1 loss to LAD
Kevin Kiermaier hit a solo homer in the Rays' World Series Game 1 loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Advice: Kiermaier's fifth-inning shot to right off a hanging Clayton Kershaw slider gave the Rays their first run of the night and snapped a stretch of 13 consecutive outs by Tampa Bay hitters. It was the center fielder's first hit since he took a pitch off his left wrist in Game 3 of the ALCS against the Astros. • Bellinger homers in Dodgers' WS Game 1 win Tues.
Cody Bellinger homered Tuesday as the Dodgers beat the Rays in Game 1 of the World Series.

Advice: It was a one-out two-run homer to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning, off a first-pitch 98.2 mph down-and-in fastball from Rays starter Tyler Glasnow. That is the fastest pitch that Bellinger has turned around for a home run in his four-year major league career, and he celebrated by foot-tapping his teammates rather than going with the hybrid jump-high-five move that caused him to temporarily dislocate his shoulder in Game 7 of the NLCS against the Braves. Bellinger is the second player ever to hit a go-ahead homer in Game 7 of an LCS and another go-ahead homer in Game 1 of a World Series. The other: David Ortiz in 2004. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 8:52 pm

  • Betts homers, steals two bags as Dodgers win Gm 1
Mookie Betts went 2-for-4 with a homer, two stolen bases, and two runs scored in the Dodgers' 8-3 World Series Game 1 victory over the Rays on Tuesday.

Advice: Betts swiped second and third base after drawing a leadoff walk in what became a four-run bottom of the fifth inning for Los Angeles and then led off the bottom of the sixth with a first-pitch, opposite-field homer to right off Rays left-hander Josh Fleming. It was Betts’ first home run against a lefty in 2020, and it gave the Dodgers a 7-1 lead. He also added a 107.5 mph single in the bottom of the eighth inning for his hardest-struck base hit of the year. • Kiermaier (wrist) in Rays' lineup for Game 1 of WS
Kevin Kiermaier (wrist) is in the Rays' starting lineup for Game 1 of the World Series against the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Advice: He will start in center field and hit eighth versus Clayton Kershaw. Kiermaier was limited to a bench role in Games 4-6 of the ALCS after taking a pitch off his left wrist in Game 3, but he played all nine innings of Saturday's Game 7 victory and it sounds like he should be at or near full strength leading into the Fall Classic. • AA: Acuña (wrist) was 'banged up' during playoffs
Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos concedes that Ronald Acuña Jr. (wrist) was "banged up" during the playoffs.

Advice: Acuña was bothered by a left wrist issue during the season, even having a stint on the injured list in mid-August. He also needed a bit of a breather just prior to the postseason, but the Braves felt he could play through it and wouldn't risk making things worse. Acuña batted just .217 (10-for-46) with one home run during the postseason, but the wrist issue obviously provides some context. The expectation is that he should be back to normal with a full offseason to rest, so there's no need to drop him in any fantasy rankings going into 2021. He's as elite as it gets. The Rays have added outfielder Brett Phillips to their roster for the World Series against the Dodgers.

Advice: The Rays have also added left-hander Ryan Sherriff to the roster while dropping left-hander Jose Alvardo and right-hander Aaron Slegers. Phillips was on the Rays' roster during the Wild Card Series and the ALDS, though he saw just two plate appearances. Cody Bellinger said Monday that his right shoulder feels "pretty good."

Advice: Bellinger's shoulder popped out of place during a celebration with Enrique Hernandez following his go-ahead home run in the seventh inning of Sunday's NLCS Game 7. He said that the shoulder has popped out 3-4 times before in the past, so it wasn't a total surprise to him and he knew what kind of pain to expect. Enrique Hernandez hit a pinch-hit solo homer to tie the game and help the Dodgers top the Braves on Sunday in Game 7 of the NLCS.

Advice: It may just seem that Hernandez has every clutch hit over the past few seasons, but he certainly has a bunch of them, anyway. Hernandez tied the game at 3-3 when he crushed an A.J. Minter offering into the left field stands in the sixth inning after pinch-hitting for Joc Pederson. Ronald Acuña went hitless with a walk and a run on Sunday in a loss to the Dodgers in Game 7 of the NLCS.

Advice: A disappointing ending for the Braves, as they became the latest team to blow a 3-1 lead in a championship series. Acuña came around to score in the first inning after drawing a four-pitch walk on a single by Marcell Ozuna. The 22-year-old wunderkind struggled in the average category with a late swoon, but still posted a .987 OPS with 14 homers, 29 RBI and eight steals in 202 plate appearances. Advice: It's nice to reach three times, but what folks will remember from this game was what he did with the glove. The Dodgers were trailing 3-2 when Freddie Freeman hit what appeared to be a solo homer, but the superstar outfielder leaped up to rob the probable MVP. Cody Bellinger hit a go-ahead solo homer in the seventh inning to help the Dodgers defeat the Braves 4-3 in Game 7 of the NLCS on Sunday and advance to the World Series.

Advice: It was a disappointing regular season for the 2019 MVP. No one in Los Angeles cares right now. With the game tied at 3-3, Bellinger crushed a Chris Martin offering to give the Dodgers a 4-3 lead and ultimately send Los Angeles to their third World Series in four seasons.
