    • Fans nine in second win
Skenes (2-0) picked up the win in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader split with the Tigers, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out nine.

Advice: After the Pirates got blanked 8-0 by Tarik Skubal and the Tigers in the opener, Skenes made sure his squad wouldn't get swept as he generated 19 swinging strikes among his 96 pitches in a dominant performance. The rookie right-hander has reeled off three straight quality starts after lasting just four innings in his big-league debut May 11, and Skenes will carry a 2.45 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 30:5 K:BB through 22 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Dodgers. • Early exit against Detroit
Jones (3-5) took the loss in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader split with the Tigers, coughing up seven runs (five earned) on five hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out two.

Advice: The rookie right-hander didn't get much help from his defense, but he also didn't have his best stuff and failed to complete at least five innings for the first time this season. Jones' two strikeouts were also a season low, as he managed only four swinging strikes among his 83 pitches. The 22-year-old sports a 3.55 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 70:12 K:BB through his first 63.1 big-league innings. Jones will look to get back on track in his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Dodgers. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:59 pm

    • Paul Skenes fans nine in victory over Tigers
Paul Skenes flashed his dominance in Wednesday afternoon’s victory over the Tigers, piling up nine strikeouts over six innings of two-run baseball.

Advice: The 22-year-old right-hander scattered just three hits and one walk on the day. The Tigers scratched out a run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly, then Matt Vierling crushed a solo homer in the sixth inning, but that was really the extent of the Tigers’ offense against him. Skenes generated a whopping 19 swinging strikes on 96 pitches in the contest — 11 on his splitter, seven on his fastball and one on his slider — while posting a strong CSW of 32 percent. Now 2-0 on the season, he’ll carry a stellar 2.45 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and a 30/5 K/BB ratio (22 innings) into Wednesday’s showdown against the Dodgers. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:34 pm

    • Kyle Harrison allows two homers in loss to Phillies
Kyle Harrison surrendered four runs over five innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Harrison was knocked around for a staggering 12 hits, including homers by Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos, so it’s pretty remarkable that he managed to limit the damage to just four runs over five frames of work. He racked up five strikeouts and only handed out one free pass. The 22-year-old southpaw will bring a respectable 4.15 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 60/22 K/BB ratio across 65 innings (12 starts) into a road tilt on Tuesday against the division-rival Diamondbacks. • Jared Jones gives up seven runs in rough outing
Jared Jones surrendered seven runs — five earned — in 4 1/3 innings in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Tigers.

Advice: He struck out just two. Jones did not have his best stuff after having his start pushed back a day; his 96.0 mph average fastball velocity was down 1.3 mph from his season mark. He did have some bad luck in the fifth; Wenceel Pérez hit what should have been an inning-ending double play ball to second, but Nick Gonzales went for the tag on Jake Rogers and had the ball jarred loose, resulting in no outs. The next batter hit a three-run homer, and after a subsequent double, Jones was lifted. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:15 pm

    • No run support in loss
Luzardo (2-4) took the loss Tuesday against the Marlins, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four in six innings.

Advice: Luzardo managed to reach six innings for a third consecutive start, but never had a shot for a win after the Marlins were shut out. The Padres quickly got to him in the first with a two-run blast from Jurickson Profar and then Profar notched another RBI in the fifth. It was the first time Luzardo has allowed runs in the opening frame this season. The 26-year-old will carry a 4.18 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 50:16 K:BB (51.2 innings) into his next start against the Rays next week. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:46 am

    • Goes seven innings in loss
Pfaadt (2-4) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings to take the loss versus the Rangers on Tuesday.

Advice: Pfaadt covered at least six innings for the sixth start in a row, but this was the third time this year he's allowed at least four earned runs -- Josh Smith had an RBI single in the third inning and Corey Seager continued his power surge with a three-run home run in the fifth. Pfaadt is now at a 4.16 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 63:12 K:BB through 67 innings across 11 starts. He's projected to make his next start on the road versus the Mets. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 9:15 pm
    • Jesús Luzardo takes loss following quality start
Jesús Luzardo lost Tuesday after allowing three runs in six innings against the Padres.

Advice: Even a third straight scoreless outing wouldn’t have gotten Luzardo a win tonight, as the Marlins were shut out by the Padres. At this point, Luzardo is just playing out the string until an inevitable midseason trade. He’ll take a 2-4 record and a 4.18 ERA into his next start versus the Rays. • Falls to St. Louis
Abbott (3-5) took the loss Tuesday against the Cardinals, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Abbott held St. Louis to three runs through six innings, as he pitched into the seventh for a third straight start. However, Abbott would allow the first three batters to reach in the frame, punctuated by a Nolan Gorman homer, en route to an eventual 7-1 loss. The 24-year-old left-hander had held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in nine of his 10 starts prior to Tuesday. Abbott's ERA rose to 3.29 with a 1.13 WHIP and 46:17 K:BB over 63 innings this year. He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for early next week in Colorado.
