      Jake Cronenworth hit a walkoff homer off Joel Payamps as the Padres edged the Brewers 7-6 on Thursday.

      Advice: Payamps couldn’t possibly have made a worse 3-2 pitch, and Cronenworth deposited the breaking ball 355 feet down the right field line for his 11th homer of the year.       Phillips earned a save against the Rockies on Thursday, striking out two batters in a perfect ninth inning.

      Advice: Phillips cruised to the save on 11 pitches, punching out two of the three batters he faced. It was the fifth straight scoreless and hitless outing for the closer, who has allowed an earned run in only two of his 21 appearances this season.       Advice: Diaz collected two hits including his fifth homer of the season, extending his hitting streak to 13 games and his on-base streak to 22 games in the process.     • Struggles through five
      Gore (6-6) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing four runs on 10 hits and two walks in five innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Gore was unable to match his opponent's efficiency on the mound, allowing 12 baserunners and needing 103 pitches to complete five frames. The Diamondbacks meanwhile needed only 87 pitches for the entirety of the contest including just 70 in seven innings by starter Ryne Nelson. Gore was done in by a lot of dink and dunk as nine of the 10 hits he allowed were singles. It was just the second time all season Gore has allowed more than three runs and was the fifth time he's eclipsed the 100-pitch plateau. The performance raised Gore's ERA from 3.24 to 3.49 while his WHIP lifted from 1.32 to 1.39.       Yandy Diaz hit a two-run homer and doubled in an extra-inning loss to the Rays on Thursday.

      Advice: Diaz absolutely clobbered a two-run homer that went an estimated 439 feet to extend the Rays’ lead to 6-2 in the ninth. It turns out the Rays would need those runs, as Minnesota scored four to tie it in the bottom half of the frame.     • MacKenzie Gore allows 10 hits in loss to D-Backs
      MacKenzie Gore allowed four runs while working five innings in a loss Thursday to the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Gore did strike out seven, but he allowed 10 hits while also issuing two walks. Unsurprisingly, this left Gore with a high pitch count, as he needed 103 pitches to get through those five frames. The 25-year-old southpaw was coming off back-to-back excellent outings, but outside of the strikeouts, there weren’t many positives here. Gore is scheduled to face the Padres next week.       Rooker went 2-for-3 with two RBI singles and a walk in a win over the Royals on Wednesday.

      Advice: Rooker's timely hitting led to two of the Athletics' five runs, with the veteran driving home JJ Bleday in the third and seventh innings with his pair of singles. Rooker has now hit safely in eight of his last 10 games, but a 42.9 percent strikeout rate has helped lead to a lackluster .211/.262/.368 slash line in that same span.     • Corbin Carroll gets a day off on Thursday
      Corbin Carroll is not in the Diamondbacks lineup on Thursday against the Nationals.

      Advice: Carroll has turned things around a bit in June, hitting .290 over 16 games with four steals and 17 runs scored. However, the power is not coming back yet. He has zero home runs in June and has just five RBI now that he has moved back up in the lineup for the Diamondbacks. You’re certainly not mad at his stats this month, but there shouldn’t be an expectation that the power will reemerge.
