    • CJ Abrams sits against tough lefty
Like the rest of the Nationals’ lefty hitters, CJ Abrams is on the bench for Wednesday’s game against Garrett Crochet and the White Sox.

Advice: It makes for a weird lineup, as Ildemaro Vargas is playing left field and batting third and Rule 5 pick Nasim Nuñez is making just his second start of the year. It’s the first time Abrams has sat since Apr. 8, when he was dealing with hand soreness. Rotoworld Today, 10:16 am
    • Runs bases Wednesday
Thomas (knee) ran the bases Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: It's the first time he's done so since being diagnosed with a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee three weeks ago. Zuckerman notes that Thomas was not running at full effort but seemed to be moving at close to 100 percent. Running the bases is typically one of the last steps a player coming back from a leg issue takes before a rehab assignment, although it's not clear exactly when Thomas might be cleared for rehab games. • Lane Thomas runs the bases before game
Lane Thomas, coming back from a sprained MCL in his left knee, ran the bases at Nationals Park prior to Wednesday’s game.

Advice: MASN’s Mark Zuckerman said he wasn’t quite running at 100 percent but wasn’t all that far below that. Thomas has also been hitting, and barring a setback, he should return before the end of the month. Rotoworld Today, 9:49 am

    • Getting rare day off
Abrams is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Abrams started in both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader and the White Sox are bringing a lefty (Garrett Crochet) to the hill for Wednesday's series finale, so Nationals manager Dave Martinez likely decided that Abrams could benefit from a game off. With Abrams out of the lineup for the first time since April 8, lightly used Rule 5 pick Nasim Nunez will pick up a rare start at shortstop. Rotowire.com Today, 9:19 am
    • Resting Wednesday
Yelich is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: With a lefty (Martin Perez) on the hill for Pittsburgh and the Brewers and Pirates getting together for a day game after a night game, the lefty-hitting Yelich will hit the bench in the series finale. Yelich's absence clears a spot in the outfield for Blake Perkins, who returns to the lineup after playing off the bench for the past two games. Rotowire.com Today, 8:41 am
    • Gunnar Henderson bats cleanup versus Blue Jays
Gunnar Henderson, who had led off for the Orioles every game this season, is in the cleanup spot for Wednesday’s game.

Advice: It seems like this is a consequence of the struggling Cedric Mullins being dropped to the ninth spot today, and manager Brandon Hyde not wanting to stack lefties. Still, Henderson hits more like a No. 3 or No. 4 hitter than a leadoff man anyway; he’s sitting at .264/.339/.553 this year and .257/.331/.495 for his career. Jordan Westburg is leading off today. It’d be great for his value if this becomes permanent, but it doesn’t sound like that’s what Hyde is planning at the moment. Rotoworld Today, 8:16 am
    • Batting cleanup Wednesday
Henderson will start at shortstop and bat cleanup in Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Advice: It's the first time this season that Henderson has batted anywhere other than leadoff. The 22-year-old's production has slowed in May (.649 OPS), so Orioles manager Brandon Hyde is electing to shake things up a bit. Toronto is starting left-hander Yusei Kikuchi on Wednesday and the left-handed-hitting Henderson has actually been much better versus southpaws (1.008 OPS) this season. Rotowire.com Today, 8:06 am
    • Buoyed by progress
Casas (rib) was upbeat Tuesday when discussing the progress he's made while on rehab, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: At the time of his injury, Casas was unsure how his body would respond, but he was enthused when discussing his recovery. "Everything is going well. I'm making a lot of progress," Casas said. "Starting a running progression here in the next couple of days. Should get to start throwing in two or three more days. I've already started lifting. Swinging is probably the last step, because that's a lot of rotation." Casas is currently on the 60-day injured list and isn't eligible to return until June 21. While he's been out, the Red Sox have filled first base with a rotation of players that includes Garrett Cooper, Dominic Smith and Romy Gonzalez. Rotowire.com Today, 4:43 am

    • Bounces back with win
Greene (2-2) got the win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings.

Advice: Greene's only blunder of an inning came in the third after allowing the first two guys on before they came around to score on a base knock from Blaze Alexander. He otherwise kept Arizona quiet and put together an excellent rebound outing after some mixed results against them last week. Greene has walked at least a batter in every start this season, but his one free pass was significantly better than the nine he'd given up over his last two starts. The 24-year-old flamethrower now owns a 3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 58:22 K:BB in 52.1 innings. He lines up to complete a two-start week against the Dodgers this weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 4:09 am
