    • To miss at least a month
Manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that Carter (back) will be out for at least a month, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Carter was placed on the 10-day IL on May 28 with lower back tightness. However, as Bochy notes, the injury is worse than initially thought and is being considered a "stress reaction". It seems as though Carter will have to start from square one and will probably require a handful of rehab outings before being able to return. In the meantime, Watt Langford and Ezequiel Duran should handle most of the work in left field. Rotowire.com Today, 1:58 pm

    • Evan Carter to miss one month with back injury
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters Tuesday that Evan Carter will miss at least one month with a stress reaction in his back.

Advice: Not great. Bochy added that Carter isn’t dealing with a stress fracture, which would’ve required a much lengthier absence, but he’s facing a lengthier absence than originally anticipated when he hit the injured list last week with a back sprain. The 21-year-old top prospect is likely going to be on the shelf until sometime after next month’s All-Star break, even in a best-case scenario. Fantasy managers in re-draft formats can probably move on, especially in shallow mixed leagues. Rotoworld Today, 1:56 pm

    • Max Scherzer (thumb) throws simulated game Tuesday
Max Scherzer (thumb) threw a two-inning simulated game on Tuesday at Globe Life Field.

Advice: Scherzer, who has been dealing with a thumb issue during his rehabilitation process from offseason back surgery, threw roughly 40 pitches in his latest throwing session. The 39-year-old righty told reporters afterwards that he hopes to head out soon on another minor league rehab assignment. There isn’t a definitive timetable for his return, but it’s not unrealistic to think he could return prior to the All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 1:44 pm

    • Throws live batting practice
Scherzer (back/arm) threw a 40-pitch live batting practice session Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Advice: It's the first time he's faced hitters since he had to be pulled off a rehab assignment in early May following a nerve problem with his throwing arm. Scherzer -- who initially went on the injured list as he recovered from offseason back surgery -- said after Tuesday's session that he's hoping his next step will be to make a rehab start. There remains no timetable for the 38-year-old return to the Rangers' rotation, but things are trending up. Rotowire.com Today, 1:44 pm

    • Kyle Tucker (shin) absent from Tuesday’s lineup
Kyle Tucker (shin) is absent from the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Cardinals.

Advice: The encouraging development here for fantasy managers is that X-rays came back negative for any fractures and Tucker hasn’t been placed on the injured list yet following an early exit from Monday’s series opener after fouling a ball off his right shin. It’ll be Mauricio Dubón taking over in right field on Tuesday evening in his absence. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the moment. Rotoworld Today, 1:29 pm

    • Out Tuesday, still DTD
Tucker (lower leg) isn't part of the Astros starting lineup Tuesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Tucker will get the day off after fouling a ball off his right shin Monday night. While X-rays came back negative and manager Joe Espada said Tucker is "feeling better", the outfielder will continue to have his leg examined to ensure that he's merely dealing with a bruise. The Astros could opt to sit Tucker on Wednesday considering it has a team day off Thursday. Rotowire.com Today, 12:48 pm

    • Vladdy Jr. playing third base again Tuesday
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is hitting third and playing third base Tuesday against the Orioles.

Advice: That will make two of three games that Guerrero Jr. is playing third base. The infielder has been swinging the bat better as of late, and Toronto is giving him a chance to handle the hot corner. Justin Turner is playing first base and Daniel Vogelbach will operate as the designated hitter while hitting fourth. Rotoworld Today, 12:24 pm
    • Launches sixth homer
Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Orioles.

Advice: The 25-year-old crushed a Grayson Rodriguez slider in the fourth inning, sending it over the fence in straightaway center field with an exit velocity of 109.2 mph. Guerrero is beginning to flash a little more power -- over his last 11 games, he has three doubles and two of his six homers on the year -- but he's been making plenty of hard contact, slashing .367/.452/.495 since the beginning of May with 16 RBI and 16 runs in 28 contests. • Avoids significant injury
Tucker has been diagnosed with a bruised right shin and X-rays on the area came back negative, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.

Advice: Tucker appeared to be in serious pain after fouling a ball off his shin during Monday's game against the Cardinals, but he seems to have escaped a significant injury. He'll be considered day-to-day and will likely be re-evaluated again Tuesday morning to determine his availability for the rest of the week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:26 pm
