• Plays catch Sunday
Verlander (neck) played catch Sunday and manager Joe Espada left the door open for Verlander to return to Houston's rotation this week against the White Sox, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: It sounds like Verlander is already feeling better after he was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday due to neck discomfort. If he responds well in the coming days, the three-time Cy Young winner could return for a prime matchup in Chicago, though Espada said it's still up in the air. Ronel Blanco will get the start Sunday against Detroit after Spencer Arrighetti was lit up for seven runs in place of Verlander in the second game of the series. Rotowire.com 33 minutes ago

  • Jasson Dominguez (undisclosed) placed on 7-day IL
Jasson Dominguez was placed on the 7-day IL by Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: It’s not known why Dominguez was placed on the injured list at this time. The outfielder did miss the first two months of the season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and it’s possible there’s a correlation there. Dominguez is one of the best fantasy prospects in baseball, and assuming good health, he has a chance to be a contributor at some point this summer. Stay tuned. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago
  • Sitting in second straight game
Walls is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: The switch-hitting Walls is sitting against a right-handed starting pitcher (Hurston Waldrep) for the second day in a row, perhaps hinting that he hasn't quite locked down an everyday role at shortstop since his return from the injured list June 7. Walls had started in six of the Rays' ensuing eight games following his reinstatement, but he went just 2-for-18 with three walks against 10 strikeouts during that stretch. Jose Caballero (calf) and Amed Rosario look to be Walls' main threats for playing time at shortstop. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago

  • Scratched with tight calf
Caballero was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta with left calf tightness, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: Amed Rosario was a late addition to the lineup as a replacement for Caballero and will hit ninth and start at shortstop. Caballero has served as the Rays' primary shortstop for most of the season, but he had moved into more of a utility infield role of late following Taylor Walls' return from the injured list June 7. • Brenton Doyle (knee) out again Sunday vs. PIT
Brenton Doyle (knee) is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Pirates.

Advice: Doyle was scratched from the lineup Sunday against Pittsburgh while dealing with left patella tendinitis. The speedy outfielder will get at least one more day off, and Jake Cave will handle center field. Rotoworld 38 minutes ago

  • Resting for day game
Alvarez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Advice: Alvarez will get a breather for the day game Sunday after he started behind the plate Friday and Saturday. Luis Torrens will step in as the Mets' starting catcher in place of Alvarez, who has gone 2-for-14 with two RBI through his first four starts since returning from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. • Placed on IL at Triple-A
Dominguez (undisclosed) was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday, Conor Foley of YES Network reports.

Advice: It's unclear at this stage what is ailing the 21-year-old. He was just formally activated from the 60-day injured list by the Yankees earlier this week after a long recovery from Tommy John surgery, and subsequently optioned down to Triple-A. Rotowire.com 45 minutes ago
  • Exiting starting nine
Solano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Solano had started each of the last eight games -- with seven coming at third base -- and went 5-for-29 with two home runs, three walks, six RBI and four runs. He should continue to have a regular spot in the lineup versus left-handed pitching, but Solano's opportunities to play against righties will likely become more limited now that Manny Machado is playing third base again after he had relegated to designated-hitter duties recently following his return from a right hip flexor strain. • Moves past illness
Estrada (illness) struck out two and gave up an earned run on one hit and one walk over one inning out of the bullpen in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Athletics.

Advice: Estrada relayed prior to Wednesday's game that he had been dealing with an illness, but it didn't deter the Padres from turning to him in the eighth inning while the Padres faced a 3-2 deficit. Though Estrada let in a run to give the Athletics a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth, Donovan Solano tied the game with a two-run home run later in the frame before Jackson Merrill hit a walk-off blast in the bottom of the ninth. Estrada hasn't been used since Wednesday, but with his bout with the illness now a few more days in the rear-view mirror, he should be available for Sunday's series finale against the Mets.
