  • Rodriguez gets fifth win Thursday
    Grayson Rodriguez allowed two runs in five innings and picked up the win in the Orioles’ 8-6 win over the White Sox on Thursday.



    Advice: Rodriguez was a bit of a mixed bag in his second start since coming off the injured list. The win was his fifth of the season. Rodriguez struck out seven, but also allowed three hits and walked five. His ERA is 3.20 on the season now. The 24-year-old right-hander is scheduled to face the Red Sox at home next week.

  • Ineffective again Thursday
    Faedo allowed three runs on three hits and a walk across 1.2 innings of relief in Thursday's 9-1 loss to the Blue Jays. He struck out one.

    Advice: After starting the season with a 2.25 ERA across his first 14 appearances, Faedo has allowed runs in his last three outings, and he has a 9.00 ERA during that stretch. The righty was a middling starter the last two years, and while he's looked a little better out of the bullpen, he may be regressing closer to his career 4.67 ERA.   • Works behind opener
    Black allowed four runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two over 2.2 innings versus the Pirates on Thursday. He did not factor in the decision.

    Advice: Black has been inconsistent as a starter this season, and his first turn working behind an opener was arguably even worse. He's allowed at least four runs in three of his four appearances, and this was the first time he failed to complete three innings. Black has an 8.79 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 10:7 K:BB over 14.1 innings on the year. While he has excelled at Triple-A Sacramento, it appears he still needs a bit more time at that level before he can be an effective major-leaguer. Rotowire.com Today, 7:55 pm
     
  • Pitches well but takes loss
    Flaherty (1-4) allowed three runs on seven hits across 6.1 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Blue Jays. He walked one and struck out nine.

    Advice: Home runs by Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Daulton Varsho accounted for all of the runs against Flaherty, but the righty otherwise was sharp once again. He's got a solid 3.84 ERA and has struck out 81 batters across 61 innings this year. The problem has been run support, as he's allowed three earned runs or fewer in three of his four losses so far. Despite the lack of wins, Flaherty looks like a promising fantasy asset, and he'll aim to keep rolling in his next scheduled start, which is tentatively set for next Thursday against Boston.   • Loses again Thursday
    Wesneski (2-3) allowed a run on one hit across 1.2 innings of relief to take the loss Thursday against Atlanta. He had no walks and struck out two.

    Advice: Chicago starter Ben Brown tossed four scoreless innings but left with the game tied 0-0. Wesneski took over and promptly allowed a solo home run to Jarred Kelenic, which was enough to get saddled with the loss in what ended up as a 3-0 Atlanta victory. The righty started the season by earning wins in each of his first two appearances, but he's 0-3 across eight outings since then, though he does have a solid 2.55 ERA during this stretch.   • Notches 10th steal
    Doyle went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Thursday's 10-9 extra-innings loss to the Athletics.

    Advice: Doyle went 6-for-30 (.200) with no multi-hit efforts over his previous nine games. In that span, he also had four steals and a 9:12 BB:K as he continues to get on base at a healthy clip despite a lofty strikeout rate that's at 28.6 percent for the year. The outfielder is slashing .273/.339/.442 with five home runs, 10 steals, 10 doubles, 15 RBI and 30 runs scored over 47 contests this season. Rotowire.com Today, 7:40 pm
     
  • Back-to-back blown saves
    Beeks allowed a run on two hits and struck out one over two-thirds of an inning to take a blown save versus the Athletics on Thursday.

    Advice: Beeks gave up a game-tying solo home run to Daz Cameron in the ninth inning. This was Beeks' second straight blown save, and it appears his high-wire act of allowing multiple baserunners in five straight contests is starting to come back to haunt him. On the year, Beeks has a 2.74 ERA, but a 1.35 WHIP and a 17:12 K:BB through 23 innings suggest he's been lucky to attain that level of run prevention.   • Ineffective in first relief outing
    Hendricks allowed two runs on four hits across two innings of relief in Thursday's 3-0 loss to Atlanta. He walked one and struck out one.

    Advice: After allowing eight runs (seven earned) across 4.2 innings in his last start to push his ERA up to 10.57, Hendricks got bumped to the bullpen. The veteran made his first relief appearance of the season Thursday, and while he actually lowered his ERA to 10.47, it wasn't a particularly inspiring effort. Hendricks has never been a big strikeout pitcher, relying instead on sharp control to fuel his success, but he's fallen off in a big way so far this year.   • Good start goes to waste
    Feltner allowed four hits and two walks while striking out six over six scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Thursday.

    Advice: This was arguably Feltner's best start of the campaign, but it was all for nothing when six Rockies relievers all gave up at least one run. The Athletics rallied to erase three deficits before ultimately winning in the 11th inning. Feltner's winless skid is at seven games, and he remains 1-4 on the year with a 5.07 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 48:16 K:BB through 55 innings over 10 starts.
