Among the nine hits allowed were three infield singles, no homers and two extra-base hits for Montgomery, suggesting that this performance was marred by a bit of bad luck. After struggling to 14 earned runs allowed over six innings during consecutive starts on May 31 and June 5, Montgomery had righted the ship over the next three outings prior to Thursday, allowing just five earned runs over 16.2 innings and collecting the win in each.       Jordan Montgomery allowed eight runs — four earned — in just 2 2/3 innings in a loss to the Twins on Thursday.

      Advice: Obviously the defense didn’t help Montgomery, but don’t confuse unearned runs with effectiveness. The southpaw gave up nine hits while only picking up a single strikeout with one walk as well. The 2024 season has been a massive disappointment for Montgomery and those who roster him on their fantasy rosters, and even with four unearned runs, this effort pushed his ERA to an ugly 6.03.
