    • David Hamilton steals two bags in victory over MIA
David Hamilton stole two bases while scoring twice and driving in a run in a victory over the Marlins in 12 innings on Thursday.

Advice: Hamilton went 1-for-5 in the contest with the walk. The speedy 26-year-old has provided plenty of thefts for the Red Sox and fantasy managers — and himself, of course, he should take pride in his work — and he’s now up to 23 of them in just 57 games. That’s certainly his best category, but Hamilton hasn’t been useless in others with a .267/.317/.418 slash over 165 at-bats. Rotoworld 48 minutes ago

    • Rafael Devers walks three times, drives in two
Rafael Devers drove in two runs while walking three times in a victory over the Marlins in extra-innings Thursday.

Advice: Hard to drive in runs without getting a hit, but Devers is capable of doing anything he set his mind to. He drove in both runs on fielder’s choices. All three of the walks were intentional, which is not something you see too often in 2024, or any year really. He’s now hitting .288/.375/.568 on the season with 51 RBI. • Mike Trout has begun hitting off a tee
Angels manager Ron Washington said that Mike Trout “has begun running on a treadmill and hitting off a tee.”

Advice: It would be very impressive to do those at the same time, but we’ll assume Trout is separating those activities. Still, it’s nice to see the 32-year-old making progress in his return from knee surgery. It was reported that Trout was running on a treadmill back in May, but taking swings has been a new development. The veteran says he wants to return before the end of July, so he may begin a rehab stint after the All-Star break if he continues to progress. Of course, the Angels have absolutely no need to rush him back this season. Rotoworld Today, 12:33 pm

    • Runs on treadmill
Angels manager Ron Washington said Thursday that Trout (knee) has started running on a treadmill, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Advice: It's a big step in Trout's recovery as he works his way back from surgery on a torn meniscus in early May. He has also done some hitting on the field. Trout said this past weekend that he expected to return from the injured list by late July, although he certainly has some markers he needs to hit first before making that happen. • Moves up to No. 3 spot
Merrill will start in center field and bat third in Thursday's game versus the Rangers.

Advice: Merrill had one start out of the leadoff spot back in mid-April and batted fifth a couple times last month, but this will be his first-ever start from the third spot in the Padres' batting order. The rookie outfielder has earned the assignment by slashing a robust .352/.380/.727 with nine home runs, 21 RBI and two stolen bases over his last 23 games. Jake Cronenworth has typically hit third since Fernando Tatis (quad) went down and has a day off Thursday, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see Merrill receive more opportunities from the middle of the San Diego batting order. • Jackson Merrill hitting 3rd for Padres
Jackson Merrill is starting in center field and batting third for the Padres on Thursday.

Advice: This is Merrill’s first start as a three-hole hitter and it’s certainly earned after he hit .320/.346/.650 in June with nine home runs, 17 runs, 20 RBI, and two steals in 28 games. If that power holds up and he continues to hit in the middle of the order, his fantasy stock will rise dramatically. Rotoworld Today, 9:02 am

    • Taking seat Thursday
Varsho is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Varsho started the past four games but will receive Thursday off after going 2-for-14 with a double and eight strikeouts during that stretch. Kevin Kiermaier will start in center field against Houston lefty Framber Valdez. Rotowire.com Today, 8:36 am

    • Absent from lineup
Buxton is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Buxton started each of the previous four contests but will begin Thursday's festivities on the bench. The Twins are going with Austin Martin in center field in the rubber match of the series. Rotowire.com Today, 6:19 am

    • Starts at first base
Candelario started at first base and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Yankees.

Advice: This was Candelario's first start in the field since returning from a hamstring injury over the weekend. He served as Cincinnati's designated hitter the previous two games. As a result of him playing first base, Spencer Steer moved to left field for the day. Rotowire.com Today, 4:52 am
