Royals activated OF Hunter Renfroe from the 10-day IL.
Advice: Renfroe’s toe turned out not to be fractured after all and he’s back with the Royals already. He’s hitting .200 with six home runs and 26 RBI in 170 at-bats with Kansas City. Renfroe will have to pick up his performance or the Royals could look for an outfield upgrade around the trade deadline. RotoworldToday, 12:12 pm
The Royals reinstated Renfroe (toe) from the 15-day injured list Friday.
Advice: The 32-year-old resumed taking swings over the weekend and is back on the active roster after spending the 10-day minimum on the shelf with a bruised toe. Renfroe had a hot start to June prior to the injury as he went 7-for-18 with two doubles, two homers and six RBI in six games. Rotowire.comToday, 8:47 am
Diaz went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Twins.
Advice: Diaz collected two hits, including his fifth homer of the season, to extend his hitting streak to 13 games and his on-base streak to 22 games. He's batting .351 over the course of the hit streak, though he has just one home run, one double, four RBI and six runs scored to show for his efforts. Rotowire.comYesterday, 9:15 pm
Yandy Diaz hit a two-run homer and doubled in an extra-inning loss to the Rays on Thursday.
Advice: Diaz absolutely clobbered a two-run homer that went an estimated 439 feet to extend the Rays’ lead to 6-2 in the ninth. It turns out the Rays would need those runs, as Minnesota scored four to tie it in the bottom half of the frame. Diaz is starting to heat up again, and he’s been much better than the .264/.327/.368 slash suggests after his slow start. RotoworldYesterday, 1:30 pm
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol said Kyle Gibson “will play catch today” and then check in with the trainers to “determine whether he’ll be available today.”
Advice: While anything is possible, it seems likely that Gibson will not be available today, which would mean that he’s in line to start on Tuesday against the Braves. He would not be a recommended stream for that one. RotoworldYesterday, 12:39 pm
Gibson (back) is likely to make his next scheduled start Tuesday against Atlanta, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Advice: Gibson was a late scratch from Wednesday's start in Miami due to back tightness. He will play catch Thursday to determine whether he could be available in relief for that game, but that's viewed as unlikely. Instead of just pushing his next start back a couple days, the Cardinals seem content to effectively skip his turn and have him ready to go Tuesday. Rotowire.comYesterday, 12:38 pm
Volpe went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs Wednesday in an extra-inning loss to Baltimore.
Advice: Volpe set the table well out of the leadoff spot, reaching base four times and notching his sixth effort of at least three hits this season. The second-year shortstop came up with a clutch hit in the ninth inning, doubling to left field and later coming home to score the game-tying run on a Giancarlo Stanton single. Volpe had been struggling coming into Wednesday, going 3-for-23 with seven strikeouts over his previous five contests. Rotowire.comYesterday, 10:35 am
Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that he's hopeful Tucker (shin) will be ready to begin baseball activities this weekend, Casey Drottar of MLB.com reports.
Advice: Tucker's recovery from a right shin contusion has come along more slowly than expected, but he seems to have made some progress in recent days. Because he's already missed more than two weeks, Tucker could require a brief rehab assignment before returning from the 10-day injured list. Rotowire.comYesterday, 10:25 am
Astros manager Joe Espada said he was “hopeful Kyle Tucker can begin doing baseball activities on the field this weekend.”
Advice: Tucker’s shin contusion has kept him out longer than most expected, but it’s nice to hear he may progress to working out on the field this weekend. If that goes well, he may require a few rehab games since he’s been out for almost two weeks, but we could see Tucker back in an Astros uniform by the end of next week if his shin responds well to these next steps.
