    • Luis Rengifo hits two-run homers against Astros
      Luis Rengifo had a two-run homer and an RBI single versus the Astros on Tuesday.

      Advice: Rengifo definitely wasn’t Ron Washington’s favorite player at the beginning of the year, but he’s been one of the best Angels thus far, having hit .316/.366/.474 in 124 plate appearances. Statcast thinks he’s way overachieving, given that his exit velocity numbers are significantly worse than his career marks, but things will probably even out there somewhat; his .840 OPS won’t quite hold up, but his exit velocity numbers should get better.       Schmidt (5-2) took the loss Tuesday against Seattle, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: Although Schmidt's scoreless inning streak ended at 17.0 innings, he didn't allow more than three runs -- something he's yet to do this season. Dylan Moore inflicted all the damage on Schmidt, launching a two-run homer in the third inning. On the year, Schmidt boasts a 2.59 ERA with a 61:17 K:BB over 55.2 innings and owns his best strikeout rate since becoming a full-time big-leaguer in 2022.     • Javier Assad walks five, gets lifted in fifth
      Javier Assad yielded three runs — two earned — in 4 2/3 innings Tuesday against the Braves.

      Advice: This really should have been worse, considering that Assad gave up two homers and walked five batters. Still, his ERA remained intact at 1.70, and though he left with the Cubs down by a run, he avoided taking what would have been his first loss in 10 starts this year.     • Takes step back Tuesday
      Assad allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and five walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus Atlanta on Tuesday.

      Advice: Assad gave up a two-run home run to Orlando Arcia in the second inning and a solo shot to Michael Harris in the fourth. The five walks were also a season high, and it was the fourth time this season Assad has issued three or more free passes. For the season, he's at a 1.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 46:20 K:BB through 53 innings across 10 starts. He's had little trouble with the long ball this year, so it's safe to assume he'll continue to find success in run prevention if he can keep the ball down.     • Oneil Cruz sets Statcast record on 3 hits in win
      Oneil Cruz went 3-for-5 with one RBI in a win over the Giants on Tuesday.

      Advice: All three of Cruz’s hits were blasted with a 121.5 mph double, a 120.4 mph single, and a 116.3 mph double. He’s now the first player in the Statcast era to have three hits in one game over 115 mph, and his 121.5 mph double is the hardest-hit ball in MLB action this year, topping the 120.4 mph single he hit earlier in the game today. That’s quite a performance. Cruz is 19-for-64 (.297) in May with four home runs, 10 runs scored, and 11 RBI. He does have 18 strikeouts in 16 games, but his production has certainly started to tick up and if stolen bases follow, we could see a full breakout. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:24 pm

      Clarke Schmidt allowed two earned runs and four hits over five innings in the Yankees’ loss to the Mariners.

      Advice: The two earned runs Schmidt allowed came on a two-run homer by Dylan Moore on a pitch that was off the outside black of the plate. It was a well-thrown pitch that resulted in an unfortunate outcome for Schmidt, who was otherwise solid on the evening. He walked just two batters while striking out six and has now struck out six or more batters in seven of his 10 starts. Schmidt is scheduled to make his next start on Sunday against the Padres.       Suarez (9-0) earned the win Tuesday over the Rangers, allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out 10 over seven innings.

      Advice: Suarez was stellar again Tuesday, holding Texas to a lone run on a Marcus Semien double in the third inning while recording a season-high 10 strikeouts. The 28-year-old southpaw has been a revelation for the Phillies this season -- his ERA is down to a sparkling 1.36 with a 0.79 WHIP and 49:9 K:BB while earning a league-most nine wins across 10 starts (66 innings).       Diaz earned the save in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Padres, logging a strikeout and a walk in a scoreless inning.

      Advice: After issuing a leadoff walk to Jurickson Profar in the ninth, Diaz struck out Manny Machado before inducing a game-ending double play off the bat of Jake Cronenworth to close out the shutout victory. It's an encouraging bounce-back effort from Diaz, who'd allowed five runs (four earned) in his previous three appearances (2.1 innings) while taking a pair of losses and a blown save. The 27-year-old right-hander still sports a subpar 6.62 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP and 18:14 K:BB across 17.2 innings while going eight for 10 in save opportunities this season.     • Ranger Suárez strikes out 10 in win over TEX
      Ranger Suárez allowed one run on five hits in seven innings in a win over the Rangers, striking out 10 and walking just two.

      Advice: He just keeps doing it. Suárez now has a 1.36 ERA on the season to go along with a 9-0 record. He posted just an 18 percent whiff rate on Tuesday but did have a solid 27 percent CSW and he pounded the zone with his sinker and four-seam. No pitch besides the four-seam or sinker had a zone rate over 33 percent, but it didn’t seem to matter on the night. It’s hard to imagine Suárez keeping this up, and his start this weekend in Colorado is certainly risky, but you can’t bench the left-hander while he’s pitching like this. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:01 pm
