    • Jesús Luzardo hit hard in loss to Rays on Tuesday
Jesús Luzardo allowed nine runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Rays on Tuesday.

Advice: Luzardo was scoreless for the first three innings and then the wheels fell off, allowing nine earned runs while only getting four more outs. On the day, he allowed only three extra-base hits but 11 hard-hit baseballs, and the average exit velocity against him was 94 mph. It’s been a tough year for the 26-year-old, who has a 5.30 ERA but remains perhaps the top starting pitcher on the trade market. That market just may not be as enthusiastic as it was over the winter. He has a tough start against the Guardians this weekend. Rotoworld Today, 6:59 pm
    • Luis Gil dazzles over six scoreless vs. Twins
Luis Gil recorded six strikeouts over six shutout innings on Tuesday in a win over the Twins.

Advice: The breakout sensation of the 2024 campaign so far, Gil kept rolling on Tuesday evening at Yankee Stadium, scattering one hit and three walks over six nearly-flawless frames against a talented Minnesota lineup. He’s emerged as an early AL Cy Young Award contender this season, allowing one earned run or fewer in seven consecutive starts since May 1. The 26-year-old righty won’t be able to sustain these sublime results long-term, but he’s rapidly evolved into a legitimate upper-echelon fantasy contributor, thanks to his ability to consistently miss bats and avoid hard contact. He’ll carry a microscopic 1.82 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 85/34 K/BB ratio across 69 1/3 innings (12 starts) into a challenging matchup on Sunday against the Dodgers. Rotoworld Today, 6:40 pm

    • Jared Jones holds Dodgers scoreless in win
Jared Jones threw six scoreless innings in a win over the Dodgers, striking out six and walking three.

Advice: Jones allowed three hits on the night and just one extra-base hit, a double to Freddie Freeman. After allowing at least three runs in four straight starts, including five earned runs in his last start against the Tigers, some questions were mounting about whether Jones was tiring. Instead, he came out and shut down the Dodgers. It wasn’t an electric start with just a 21 percent CSW, but he did get 12 whiffs on 51 swings for a 24 percent whiff rate. The rookie has continued to impress with a 3.25 ERA and will look to keep it going in a start against the Twins this weekend. Rotoworld Today, 6:39 pm
    • Blanks Dodgers in fourth win
Jones (4-5) earned the win Tuesday over the Dodgers, allowing three hits and three walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out six.

Advice: It was an impressive return to form for Jones after he gave up a season-high five runs in 4.1 innings in his last start against Detroit. It's the fifth quality start in Jones' last six outings -- his ERA now sits at 3.25 with a 1.01 WHIP 76:15 K:BB across 12 starts (69.1 innings) in his rookie campaign. The 22-year-old Jones is currently lined up for a home matchup with the Twins this weekend in his next start. Rotowire.com Today, 6:27 pm
    • Completes extended bullpen session
Gray (groin) threw 40-to-50 pitches during a bullpen session Monday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reported Tuesday.

Advice: Gray will throw another bullpen session Wednesday, and if all goes well, manager Bruce Bochy said the right-hander could be an option to return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday versus the Giants, per Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. Once Gray is reinstated, Jose Urena will likely be pushed out of the rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 1:49 pm

    • Jon Gray (groin) throws bullpen session on Tuesday
Jon Gray (groin) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

Advice: Gray threw roughly 50 pitches in the side session and there should be some clarity on his next steps in the coming days. The 32-year-old righty hit the injured list last month with a right groin strain. Rotoworld Today, 1:47 pm

    • Report: Padres pursuing trade for Garrett Crochet
The Athletic’s Dennis Lin and Ken Rosenthal report the Padres have shown strong interest in trade discussions for White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet.

Advice: Here we go. No word on how close a potential deal may be, but it’s worth noting the two sides struck a deal a few months ago centered around White Sox ace Dylan Cease and appear to be circling another potential blockbuster. San Diego’s starting pitching depth took a serious hit last weekend with Yu Darvish (groin) and Joe Musgrove (elbow) landing on the injured list so it wouldn’t be shocking to see Padres general manager AJ Preller getting aggressive to fill the void. Crochet is in the midst of an unexpected breakout campaign with a stellar 3.49 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 93/15 K/BB ratio across 69 2/3 innings (13 starts). The former top prospect is still only 24 years old and figures to command an astronomical asking price in trade talks. Rotoworld Today, 1:13 pm

    • CJ Abrams returns to lineup Tuesday against Mets
CJ Abrams (shoulder) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Mets.

Advice: Abrams is back at shortstop and leading off on Tuesday night at Nationals Park following a three-game absence due to shoulder soreness. The 23-year-old probably could’ve used a few days off since he’s been mired in a mini-slump at the dish recently. He’s been phenomenal overall this season with nine homers and eight steals through 53 contests. Rotoworld Today, 1:08 pm

    • Rejoining lineup Tuesday
Abrams (shoulder) is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff Tuesday against the Mets, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: The 23-year-old hasn't seen the field since Friday due to the shoulder issue but is back atop the lineup Tuesday for Washington. Abrams will look to get back on track now that he's healthy, as he went 0-for-14 with eight strikeouts in the three games preceding his absence. Rotowire.com Today, 12:32 pm
