  • Hanley Ramirez homers at Safeco Field
Hanley Ramirez finished 2-for-6 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's game in Seattle.

Advice: The 2-3-4 hitters for the Red Sox each collected two hits, the only Boston players to post multi-hit games in a 13-inning loss. Ramirez's homer was even more impressive considering it came against fireballer Felix Hernandez. He is enjoying a nice road trip, hitting safely in all five games on the west coast trip with a pair of homers and three RBI. Today, 2:09 am
  • David Freese has hit safely in seven straight
David Freese posted a single, double and RBI across five at-bats in Tuesday's game in San Francisco.

Advice: Freese has hit safely in a season-high seven consecutive outings, going 10-for-24 (.417) with three runs scored, a home run, five RBI, five walks and just five strikeouts. His previous long was a four-game hitting streak, accomplished on three different occasions, so this is uncharted territory in 2017 for the hot corner veteran. Today, 1:23 am
  • Mike Napoli blasts 22nd homer as Rangers roll
Mike Napoli blasted his 22nd home run of the season as the Rangers crushed the Marlins on Tuesday.

Advice: Napoli's solo shot off of Dan Straily tied the score at 1-1 in the second inning. The veteran slugger also singled and doubled in the ballgame, finishing the night 3-for-5. He's now hitting .206/.282/.467 with 22 homers and 47 RBI on the season. Yesterday, 8:18 pm
  • Tim Beckham blasts three-run HR to beat O's
Tim Beckham blasted a three-run homer on Tuesday, powering the Rays to a 5-4 victory over the Orioles.

Advice: His three-run shot capped off a five-run uprising in the second inning off of O's starter Wade Miley. While it was his lone hit in four at-bats on the afternoon, it was the biggest blow in the game. He has filled in admirably for the injured Matt Duffy this season, hitting .262/.316/.419 with 12 bombs and 36 RBI. Yesterday, 7:40 pm

  • Trey Mancini clubs 16th homer in loss Tuesday
Trey Mancini clubbed his 16th home run of the season as the Orioles fell to the Rays on Tuesday night in Tampa Bay.

Advice: His solo shot off of Rays' starter Jacob Faria pulled the O's to within three runs at 5-2 in the sixth inning. Mancini finished the night 2-for-3 plus a walk and is slashing a robust .304/.351/.528 with 16 bombs and 53 RBI on the year. Yesterday, 7:28 pm
  • Rockies interested in Jonathan Lucroy trade's T.R. Sullivan reports that the Rockies have expressed interest in Rangers catcher Jonathan Lucroy.

Advice: Colorado has also been connected to Tigers catcher Alex Avila and Braves catcher Kurt Suzuki. Lucroy is batting just .240/.293/.339 with four home runs and 26 RBI in 75 games this season, but he was an All-Star in 2016 and is only owed around $1.5 million. The 31-year-old catcher can become a free agent in November. Yesterday, 5:32 pm
  • Tyler Austin (hamstring) hitting off tee
Tyler Austin (hamstring) has begun taking swings off a tee.

Advice: But the big step for Austin will be running and fielding. The young first baseman has been on the disabled list since June 29 because of a strained right hamstring and probably won't be ready for live MLB action until sometime in mid-August. Yesterday, 2:46 pm

  • Josh Bell posts three more hits on Monday
Josh Bell posted a pair of singles, a double, a run scored and an RBI in Monday's game in San Francisco.

Advice: Bell has managed at least one RBI in each of his four games on the current western road trip, totaling seven. He is also hitting for high average on the trip, going 9-for-19 (.474) with two doubles, a triple, a homer and seven RBI. Yesterday, 2:38 am

  • Sean Rodriguez belts first homer of season
Sean Rodriguez connected for a pinch-hit two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning in Monday's game at Arizona.

Advice: The veteran Rodriguez debuted in mid-July, as he needed time to recover from a severe shoulder injury suffered in a car accident during the offseason. The homer was just his second hit across 15 at-bats, but perhaps it will give the utility man a little confidence going forward. Monday, 10:31 pm

  • Matt Davidson swats 19th home run
Matt Davidson wallopped a long solo home run in Monday's win over the Cubs.

Advice: Koji Uehara left a splitter up and over the plate in the eighth inning and Davidson pulverized it over the Wrigley Field bleachers and onto Waveland Avenue. The dinger was Davidson's 19th of the season. Davidson is sporting a lowly .284 on-base percentage and 39 percent(!) strikeout rate, but he's provided some power and that's all the White Sox could've hoped for given his underwhelming numbers in the minors the last few seasons. • Rays release Rickie Weeks
Rays activated 1B/DH Rickie Weeks from the 10-day disabled list; released him.

Advice: The Rays ultimately opted to keep Trevor Plouffe over Weeks. The 34-year-old Weeks has been sidelined since early June with a right shoulder impingement and owns an underwhelming .216/.321/.340 batting line over 37 games this season. Monday, 12:28 pm

  • Smith continues to crush Triple-A pitching.
Mets prospect Dominic Smith hit his 14th homer of the year on Sunday for Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: Smith also singled. There have not been many hitters better than Smith in the month of July, and his OPS for the month is now 1.106. He's also a solid defender at first, so no, you're not looking at a future DH. Not yet, anyway. If/when the Mets deal Lucas Duda, Smith should get the call. He's ready. Monday, 10:15 am

  • Mariners option Taylor Motter to Triple-A
Mariners optioned INF/OF Taylor Motter to Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: The move should clear a spot for Danny Espinosa's arrival. Motter started the season hot, but he's been a non-factor for the past couple of months. Monday, 9:39 am

  • Ice and fire: David Freese socks solo shot
David Freese went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

Advice: After the Pirates fell behind 5-1, Freese inched them closer with a solo homer off Kyle Freeland in the sixth inning. The veteran third baseman is hitting .251/.385/.372 with seven homers and 30 RBI in 77 games. While he has a little five-game hitting streak going, his offensive contributions have been limited on the whole. Sunday, 3:56 pm
  • Hanley Ramirez blasts solo homer vs. LAA
Hanley Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Angels.

Advice: Ramirez gave the Red Sox a temporary 2-1 advantage with his solo homer off Parker Bridwell in the sixth, but Mike Trout came right back at him in the bottom of the frame with a solo shot of his own to even up the score. That dinger by Ramirez was the only extra-base hit that the Red Sox picked up in the loss. Through 84 games played, the slugger is the owner of a .256/.341/.449 triple-slash with 16 homers and 39 RBI. He has gone deep in three of his last 10 games. We saw a big second-half push from Ramirez last season and this could certainly be in the cards during the current campaign as we enter the dog days of summer. Sunday, 3:02 pm
  • Brandon Moss delivers walk-off winner Sunday
Brandon Moss came through with a walk-off RBI single in the ninth inning on Sunday, propelling the Royals to a 5-4 victory over the visiting White Sox.

Advice: Mike Moustakas started the ninth inning with a single, and his pinch runner (Lorenzo Cain) advanced to second base as Alcides Escobar was hit by a pitch. Moss then lined a Tyler Clippard offering into right field, plating Cain to send the Royals' faithful home happy once again. Moss finished the day 1-for-3 plus a walk and is now hitting .210/.283/.424 with 12 homers and 24 RBI on the year. Sunday, 2:38 pm
  • Tyler White recalled from Triple-A
Astros recalled INF Tyler White from Triple-A Fresno.

Advice: White has batted .299/.371/.517 with 19 homers and 69 RBI at Fresno this season. He's played all over the infield this season and could see the occasional start against lefties. Sunday, 7:28 am
  • Josh Bell finds seats in Mile High City
Josh Bell went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss in Colorado.

Advice: Bell has enjoyed his stay in Denver thus far, collecting five RBI in the first two games of the series. His average is down after hitting .273 last season across 45 games, but he has shown nice power and speed in his first full campaign in the majors. Sunday, 12:09 am

  • Moss hits 12th homer in win over White Sox
Brandon Moss hit his 12th home run of the year in Saturday's win over the White Sox.

Advice: White Sox reliever David Holmberg was the whipping boy in this one, serving up back-to-back shots to Salvador Perez and Mike Moustakas before giving up Moss's dong two batters later. The homer was the second in the past four games for the 33-year-old, who's 7-for-16 in that four-game span. Moss also stealthily stole his second base of the year in Saturday's game. He's a streaky hitter, but we'll need to see a lot more games like that before we even consider Moss and his .208 batting average for fantasy purposes. Saturday, 9:42 pm
  • Report: Cubs interested in Jonathan Lucroy
According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Cubs may have more interest in acquiring Jonathan Lucroy than Yu Darvish.

Advice: Per Grant, the Cubs have made "at least a passing call" on Darvish but Lucroy is who they really have their eye on. The Cubs traded backup catcher Miguel Montero after his criticism of Jake Arrieta earlier this month, forcing Willson Contreras into a near-everyday role. Lucroy has struggled this year (.244 AVG with four homers in 266 at-bats) but has a proven track record and has plenty of experience playing in the NL Central after spending the first six-and-a-half years of his career with Milwaukee. His contract is up after this year, so he'd only be a rental. Saturday, 8:34 pm
  • Bell has four-hit, four RBI night vs. Rockies
Josh Bell went 4-for-6 with four RBI and a run scored Friday versus the Rockies.

Advice: It was the first four-hit game of his career. Bell had a single, a double, and a triple, so only a home run was missing from a possible cycle. The 24-year-old doesn’t stand out on the surface with his .248 batting average, but he has 17 homers and a respectable .807 OPS through 96 games. Friday, 9:45 pm

  • Moss collects four RBI in defeat of Tigers
Brandon Moss went 2-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored in a win over the Tigers on Thursday.

Advice: Moss smacked a two-run double in the third inning and capped the scoring with a two-RBI single in the eighth, contributing four of the Royals' 16 runs on the night. It's been a big few days for the beleaguered 33-year-old, who has a pair of doubles, a homer and six RBI in the last two games. It's been a rare highlight of what's been a difficult year for Moss, who's hitting just .205/.273/.410 in 63 games overall. Thursday, 9:10 pm
  • Napoli homers, drives in three in loss to O's
Mike Napoli went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's loss to the Orioles.

Advice: Napoli connected for the three-run shot off Orioles starter Wade Miley in the fifth inning. He's really heated up since the All-Star break, going 8-for-21 with three homers, six RBI and four runs scored in seven games. The good stretch has helped him bring his line back up over the Mendoza Line, at least, with the 35-year-old hitting .209/.283/.473 with 21 homers and 45 RBI on the year. Thursday, 8:21 pm
  • Brandon Moss homers in Royals' win
Brandon Moss homered in the third and delivered a game-tying double in the ninth as the Royals edged the Tigers 4-3 on Wednesday.

Advice: The Tigers scored twice in the top of the ninth to take a 3-2 lead, only to lose the game in the bottom of the inning after Moss knocked in Alcides Escobar and scored on Alex Gordon's sac fly. It might be the best game that Moss has had in 3 1/2 months as a Royal. He hadn't had a multi-RBI game since May 21. Wednesday, 9:09 pm
  • Mancini smokes three-run triple vs Rangers
Trey Mancini laced a bases-loaded triple to drive in three runs against the Rangers on Wednesday.

Advice: His seventh-inning heroics broke the game wide open. The triple was his second base hit of the inning, having singled and scored earlier in the frame. The rookie is silencing his critics by batting .309/.352/.535 with 15 home runs and 50 RBI in 80 games. Wednesday, 7:39 pm
  • Josh Bell not in lineup against Brewers
Josh Bell is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Advice: Bell collided with Eric Thames at first base on Tuesday, but came out of that without lingering health concern. Still, the Pirates will give him a rest day just to make sure everything is on the level. Jose Osuna is starting at first base and hitting fourth in his place. Daily Slant: With Bell out of the lineup, Jose Osuna is now a viable value play across all formats hitting out of the clean-up spot against Zach Davies. While his batted ball profile isn't eye-popping, Osuna does own a healthy .233 ISO against RHP on the season and being slotted around McCutchen and Polanco should provide him with some solid run producing opportunities. Osuna's price tag makes it easier to afford an arm like Jacob deGrom, and the Pirates actually have one of the higher team totals on the main slate. Wednesday, 2:14 pm

  • Hanley Ramirez walks it off in 15th
Hanley Ramirez delivered a walkoff homer in the 15th as the Red Sox edged the Blue Jays 5-4 on Tuesday.

Advice: Another marathon game for Boston, which played 16 innings Saturday before taking on the Yankees in a doubleheader the next day. Ramirez also had a double and a walk in the contest tonight. The homer was his sixth in the last 20 games and 15th overall. Tuesday, 10:28 pm
  • Mancini homers, drives in two against Rangers
Trey Mancini went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.

Advice: Mancini hit the second of two, two-run shots in the first inning, as the O's hung six early runs on Rangers starter Tyson Ross. The homer was the 15th of the year for Mancini, and his first this month. The 25-year-old is hitting .308/.350/.529 while splitting time between left field and first base this season. Tuesday, 9:59 pm
  • Weeks (shoulder) set for rehab games
Rickie Weeks (shoulder) is set to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Weeks has missed over a month with a right shoulder impingement. He'll probably remain in the minor leagues through the weekend. Tuesday, 5:08 pm

  • Lucroy hits RBI double versus Orioles
Jonathan Lucroy hit an RBI double in the Rangers' loss to the Orioles on Monday.

Advice: His drive to center field in the top of the second inning scored Drew Robinson from first base for the Rangers' first and only run of the night. Lucroy was thrown out while trying to advance to third. He finished 1-for-3 in the game and holds a disappointing .258/.303/.365 overall batting line this year. Monday, 7:15 pm
  • Braves activate INF Rodriguez from DL
Braves activated INF Sean Rodriguez from the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: Rodriguez has been out all season after injuring his shoulder in an offseason car crash. He was originally expected to miss the entire year, but he managed to make it back just a few days removed from the All-Star break. The 32-year-old should function in a utility role. Monday, 12:27 pm

  • Another multi-hit game for Smith
Mets prospect Dominic Smith picked up two more hits on Sunday for Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: One of those hits was a double, his 25th of the season. Against right-handed pitchers, he's hitting .354/.405/.521. Obviously his numbers against southpaws aren't as good, but an OPS of .774 is nothing to complain about. Smith can rake, and the Mets should find a chance for him to play before the end of the year. • Mike Napoli slugs solo homer against Royals
Mike Napoli went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Royals.

Advice: Napoli took a Yu Darvish offering for a solo ride into the seats in the seventh inning. While the slugger is hitting just .199 on the season, the power remains very real, as the slugger has gone deep in two out of his last three games and has now swatted 20 big flies on the season. Jul 16, 2:38 pm
  • Hanley, Pedroia sitting out first game
Hanley Ramirez is not in the Red Sox' lineup for the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees.

Advice: Dustin Pedroia and Mitch Moreland aren't playing, either. Chris Young is in the designated hitter spot, Sam Travis is at first base, Tzu-Wei Lin is at second base and Deven Marrero is at third. Jul 16, 7:32 am
  • Tim Beckham activated from disabled list
Rays activated INF Tim Beckham from the 10-day disabled list.
