  • Profar goes 0-for-2 in loss to Twins
Jurickson Profar finished 0-for-2 in the Rangers' loss to the Twins on Monday.

Advice: Profar is now batting just .135 with zero extra-base hits in 46 plate appearances this season. The former top prospect is a non-factor in fantasy. Today, 8:52 pm

  • Osuna doubles and triples in loss to Cubs
Jose Osuna finished 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI triple Monday in the Pirates' loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Osuna had an adventurous first couple innings defensively in right field, but he did his part at the plate, finishing a home run short of the cycle in Pittsburgh's blowout loss. Osuna continues to see a good amount of playing time in the wake of Starling Marte's PED suspension, though we wouldn't expect consistent offensive output. Today, 7:33 pm

  • Chris Marrero designated for assignment
Giants designated 1B/OF Chris Marrero for assignment.

Advice: Marrero earned an Opening Day roster spot with a big spring, but he failed miserably in his chances in left field, hitting just .132/.171/.211 over 41 plate appearances. He could clear waivers and stick around in the organization. Today, 3:44 pm

  • Duda (elbow) vows to return when eligible
Lucas Duda (elbow) believes he'll be ready to return from the disabled list when he's first eligible.

Advice: Duda landed on the disabled last week with a hyperextended left elbow. He still needs to get the range of motion in his elbow back, but he's making progress. Jay Bruce has been filling in at first base in recent days. Today, 9:00 am

  • Justin Bour rocks three-run home run vs. SD
Justin Bour went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's win over the Padres.

Advice: Bour's three-run blast off Craig Stammen in the sixth inning snapped a 3-3 tie and put the Marlins on their to the ultimate 7-3 victory. The home run was his third of the season. He is now working on a five-game hitting streak, but even with those recent hits, his .194/.282/.371 triple-slash is far from ideal. Yesterday, 6:01 pm
  • Yonder Alonso doubles in loss to Mariners
Yonder Alonso went 1-for-4 with a double in Sunday's loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Alonso doubled off Evan Scribner in the ninth inning, but the A's were unable to bring him around to score. And even if they had, they were trailing 11-1 at the time he hit that two-bagger. The 30-year-old first baseman is off to a nice start this season, hitting .292/.370/.563 with three homers and 10 RBI through his first 48 at-bats. Yesterday, 5:03 pm
  • Gerardo Parra cracks two-run home run in win
Gerardo Parra went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an RBI single in Sunday's win over the Giants.

Advice: Parra smacked a two-run home run off Jeff Samardzija in the fourth inning. That boosted the Rockies to a 3-0 advantage, more than enough for an on-point Kyle Freeland to work with. Just for good measure, he added an RBI single in the sixth. Parra has hit two home runs and driven in 10 runs during the early going and is working to a hot .333/.373/.479 triple-slash as he nears the close to the first month of the season. Yesterday, 3:17 pm

  • John Hicks blasts first career homer in win
John Hicks blasted his first career home run and drove in five runs on Sunday, leading the Tigers to a 13-4 victory over the Twins.

Advice: Hicks was brought up from Triple-A on Saturday to fill in for the injured Miguel Cabrera and stated his case that he's here to stay with Sunday's performance. His two-run single in the third inning capped off a five-run uprising against Kyle Gibson then he crushed a three-run homer off of Ryan Pressly in the ninth. He could be worth a look in AL-only formats while Cabrera is sidelined, but isn't likely to carry much mixed league value. Yesterday, 3:03 pm
  • Valbuena (hamstring) set for rehab games
Luis Valbuena (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Inland Empire on Monday.

Advice: Working his way back from a right hamstring strain, Valbuena slated to play 5-7 games before being activated from the disabled list. With C.J. Cron struggling, Valbuena should play regularly against righties once he returns. Yesterday, 10:26 am

  • Mariners promote 1B prospect Vogelbach
Mariners recalled 1B Daniel Vogelbach from Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Vogelbach should immediately become a regular at first base against right-handers given Danny Valencia's struggles. The rotund first baseman struggled in his brief audition with the Mariners last season and also in spring training, but he was off to a .309/.409/.473 start at Tacoma and has offered power and good plate discipline consistently in the minors. He's worth a look in deeper fantasy formats. Yesterday, 10:19 am
  • Matt Holliday out again on Sunday
Matt Holliday remained out of the Yankees' lineup Sunday.

Advice: He's been on the bench for all three games in Pittsburgh, as Holliday has still only made starts in the designated hitter spot so far this season. Holliday did pinch-hit on Friday and Saturday. Yesterday, 8:08 am
  • Josh Bell not in Sunday's lineup
Josh Bell is not in the Pirates' lineup Sunday.

Advice: Bell has been heating up at the plate lately, but he'll be on the bench for this one. David Freese has shifted over to first base, with Josh Harrison handling third and Phil Gosselin second. The Pirates also have Chris Stewart catching over Francisco Cervelli. Yesterday, 7:31 am

  • Kennys Vargas recalled from Triple-A
Twins recalled 1B/DH Kennys Vargas from Triple-A Rochester.

  • Justin Smoak reaches seats in loss
Justin Smoak finished 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the ninth inning in Saturday's loss against the Angels.

Advice: The switch hitter has hit safely in three straight while delivering six RBI over the past five outings. He has been starting regularly and is worth using as a corner infielder in most AL-only fantasy formats. Saturday, 11:29 pm
    L, 2-1 @LAA
  • Gyorko has RBI triple, run against Brewers
Jedd Gyorko had an RBI triple and a run scored in a win over the Brewers on Saturday.

Advice: Both actually came on the same play, as Gyorko laced a triple into the right field corner that Brewers outfielder Domingo Santana had trouble digging out. Gyorko then hustled home when the throw got away from the infielders. With the Cardinals struggling for offense and the 28-year-old hitting .310/.396/.643 with three homers in 14 games, Gyorko should be an everyday player for the Birds for the foreseeable future and can be treated as such in fantasy leagues. • Tigers recall John Hicks from Triple-A Toledo
Tigers recalled C John Hicks from Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Hicks had been summoned from Triple-A in case Cabrera needed to go on the disabled list and is expected to start at first base against the Twins on Saturday. Hicks has been primarily a catcher during his time in the minor leagues, playing a total of 14 games at first base in his minor league career. Saturday, 9:56 am
  • Gyorko has two hits Friday vs. Brewers
Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-4 with a run scored Friday versus the Brewers.

Advice: Both hits were singles. Gyorko, who hit cleanup, led off the fourth inning with an infield single before coming home on a double off the bat of Randal Grichuk. The Cardinals ended up plating four runs in the frame. With Jhonny Peralta (illness) sidelined, Gyorko should share time at third base in the coming days. His power should put him on the radar in deeper mixed fantasy leagues. Friday, 10:22 pm

  • Yonder Alonso hits third homer
Yonder Alonso went 2-for-4 and hit his third homer Friday against the Mariners.

Advice: Alonso didn't hit his third homer last year until June 30, his 76th game of the season. His exit velocity so far this year isn't particularly impressive, but he's doing a far better job of getting the ball in the air that usual. His strikeout rate is up, too, but it's a good trade off for him. We wouldn't expect greatness, but 15-20 homers is a possibility if he keeps his launch angle up. Friday, 10:17 pm
  • Bell slugs two-run homer in win
Josh Bell slugged a two-run homer in Friday’s 6-3 victory over the Yankees.

Advice: Bell’s second-inning blast gave the Pirates an early 4-0 lead against CC Sabathia. The Yankees chipped away in the middle innings, but the Pirates added some valuable insurance in the seventh. With homers in back-to-back games, Bell is beginning to show some signs of life. The 24-year-old is hitting just .213/.275/.383 through 16 games. Friday, 7:41 pm

  • Mets place Duda (elbow) on disabled list
Mets placed 1B Lucas Duda on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 20, with a hyperextended left elbow.

Advice: Duda hurt the elbow was trying to field a throw on Wednesday. It's unclear at this point how much time he'll miss. With Wilmer Flores also on the DL, Jay Bruce figures to handle first base regularly, clearing space in the lineup for Michael Conforto. Friday, 1:05 pm

  • Jose Osuna getting first start Friday
Jose Osuna is starting in right field and batting seventh for the Pirates in Friday's game versus the Yankees.

Advice: It's Osuna's first major league start, and he'll face CC Sabathia. Osuna figures to see some starts against lefties following Starling Marte's suspension. Friday, 12:13 pm

  • Gyorko homers among three XBH versus Brewers
Jedd Gyorko had a big game Thursday, finishing 3-for-3 with two doubles, a homer and two runs scored in a loss to the Brewers.

Advice: The same day incumbent Jhonny Peralta hit the disabled list, Gyorko got the start at third base and made the most of it. The homer was his third of the year, giving him five RBI and six runs scored. Peralta was struggling even before the DL trip and Gyorko, coming off a year in which he hit 30 homers, is batting .294/.385/.647 in 12 games. It might be time to jump on him if he's available in your league. Thursday, 9:25 pm

  • Yonder Alonso sitting against James Paxton
Yonder Alonso is not in the Athletics' lineup Thursday against the Mariners.

Advice: Alonso struggles against left-handed pitching and probably wouldn't have had much success against Mariners southpaw James Paxton. Ryon Healy will fill in at first base and bat fifth. Alonso slugged his second home run of the year in Wednesday night's win. Thursday, 4:30 pm
  • Duda out Thursday, Bruce starts at first base
Lucas Duda (elbow) is out of the Mets' starting lineup on Thursday against the Phillies.

Advice: Jay Bruce will start at first base for just the fourth time in his career. He's also batting cleanup versus right-hander Aaron Nola. Duda suffered a hyperextended left elbow Wednesday when the Phillies' Cesar Hernandez ran into his arm at first base following an errant throw by Robert Gsellman. It's not yet clear how long he might be out.Daily Slant: Nola will match up with a Mets squad that is able to counteract Nola's prowess versus RH bats (27.8% K%, 3.5% BB% in 2016) with six LH bats. Nola is still slightly above average against LHs, but his strikeout rate dips to 21.9% and his walk rate balloons to 8.8% with a 30.1% hard contact rate. On the other hand, a Mets stack is far from recommended, though if targeting one-offs for their power potential, Jay Bruce, Michael Conforto, Asdrubal Cabrera and Curtis Granderson lead the short list of lefties with tournament appeal. Thursday, 12:17 pm
    10-Day DL
  • Vogelbach homers Wednesday
Mariners prospect Daniel Vogelbach homered for Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

Advice: It's the first homer of the season for Vogelbach. The former Cubs prospect was expected to be the opening day starter at first for Seattle, but a poor spring training saw him demoted to Tacoma to begin the year. The numbers aren't overwhelming, but a .289/.365/.400 start is nothing to sneeze at. At some point, the Mariners are going to need Vogelbach's bat in the lineup. Thursday, 11:33 am
  • Gerardo Parra goes 0-for-4 in loss
Gerardo Parra went 0-for-4 in the loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Advice: Parra shouldn't have been expected to do anything tonight against Clayton Kershaw, but he had actually hit .364/.417/.606 in 33 career at-bats versus the lefty coming into this one. Parra still has a .300 average at the moment, but his OPS is down to .733. It'd be for the best if the Rockies could send him back to the bench soon. Wednesday, 10:32 pm

  • Duda removed with hyperextended left elbow
Lucas Duda was lifted from Wednesday's game against the Phillies due to a hyperextended left elbow.

Advice: Duda paid the price for an errant throw by Robert Gsellman in the fifth inning. On the play in question, Cesar Hernandez collided with Duda's arm at first base. Wilmer Flores subsequently pinch-hit for Duda in the bottom of the frame. Consider the first baseman day-to-day until the Mets offer a more specific update as to a recovery timetable. He will be reevaluated on Thursday. Wednesday, 5:50 pm
    10-Day DL
  • Alonso doubles, homers in win over Rangers
Yonder Alonso went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a solo home run in Wednesday's win over the Rangers.

Advice: Alonso doubled home a run against Martin Perez during a four-run first inning for the A's. He would not strike again until the seventh, when he socked a solo home run off Mike Hauschild to boost the A's to a 9-1 advantage. That would stand as the final score. Through the first two-and-a-half weeks of the season, the 30-year-old first baseman is slashing .275/.370/.500 with two home runs, three doubles and nine RBI across 40 at-bats. Wednesday, 4:08 pm
  • Josh Bell slugs first homer versus Cardinals
Josh Bell slugged his first home run of the season Wednesday in the Pirates' loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Bell jumped Michael Wacha for a solo shot in the top of the fourth inning, but that's all the scoring the Pittsburgh offense could generate in the afternoon defeat. Bell is batting just .205/.271/.318 in 15 games this season, though he's looked a little better lately. Wednesday, 1:31 pm

  • Justin Bour hits two-run homer
Justin Bour went 2-for-4 and homered off the Mariners' Yovani Gallardo on Tuesday.

Advice: Bour had been down to .133 before getting to face Gallardo tonight. The Marlins will be patient here, though they do have a decent left-handed alternative in first base in Derek Dietrich. Tuesday, 10:04 pm
  • Justin Smoak smokes second home run
Justin Smoak had an RBI double and a solo home run on Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Both knocks came off of Boston left-hander Brian Johnson. Smoak has heated up over the last few days with two longballs, a double and a triple over his last four games. He'll continue to be mixed in at first base for the Blue Jays. Tuesday, 8:23 pm

  • Pirates recall 1B/OF Jose Osuna from AAA
Pirates recalled 1B/OF Jose Osuna from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Starling Marte got hit with an 80-game PED suspension on Tuesday, so Osuna gets the call to help out in left field. He can also play some first base. The 24-year-old doesn't do enough things well to warrant consideration in standard fantasy leagues. Tuesday, 1:05 pm
    L, 14-3 vs ChC
  • Justin Bour goes hitless in loss
Justin Bour got the start against a left-hander Monday and went 0-for-3, dropping his average to .133.

Advice: The Marlins want Bour to be a full-time player this year, but he isn't hitting anyone right now and it'd probably be best if he resumed sitting against lefties. Unfortunately, they just dropped their primary alternative at first base, Tyler Moore, to make room for Martin Prado on the roster. They could give J.T. Realmuto starts at first against lefties, with A.J. Ellis catching. Apr 17, 10:25 pm
  • Holliday slugs three-run homer versus CHW
Matt Holliday went 1-for-4 with three RBI in the Yankees' defeat of the White Sox on Monday.

Advice: Those three RBI came on a three-run homer off White Sox starter Derek Holland in the bottom of the third inning. Holliday has a .404 on-base percentage, two home runs, and eight RBI through his first 11 games in pinstripes. Apr 17, 7:06 pm
  • Jurickson Profar starting in LF Monday
Jurickson Profar is starting in left field and batting ninth for the Rangers on Monday.

Advice: He's started two straight and five out of the last six in left, although Profar is just 4-for-19 with zero extra-base hits so far. The Rangers are facing Jharel Cotton and the A's. Apr 17, 2:29 pm

  • Holliday (back) returns to Yankees' lineup
Matt Holliday (back) has returned to the Yankees' lineup Monday against the White Sox.

Advice: Holliday sat out Saturday and Sunday while dealing with some back stiffness, but he feels well enough to return to the DH spot on Monday. He's hitting third against lefty Derek Holland. Apr 17, 1:03 pm
  • Justin Bour belts first homer of 2017
Justin Bour launched a solo home run in four at-bats in Saturday's win against the Mets.

Advice: Bour has stumbled out of the chute in 2017, posting just six hits over his first 39 at-bats (.154). Perhaps he'll gain a little confidence after the solo homer, which gives him a modest three-game hitting streak. Unfortunately for fantasy owners he also struck out three times Saturday, and he has at least one whiff in 10 of his 11 outings this season. Apr 15, 7:47 pm
  • Lucas Duda sitting against Adam Conley
Lucas Duda is not in the Mets' lineup Saturday against the Marlins.

Advice: Duda hasn't been starting against lefties. Wilmer Flores will fill in at first base and bat cleanup against Marlins southpaw Adam Conley. Duda is off to a decent start with four homers and a .286 average through his first 35 at-bats. Apr 15, 1:13 pm

  • Matt Holliday scratched from Yankees lineup
Matt Holliday was scratched from the Yankees' starting lineup on Saturday due to lower back stiffness.

  • Chris Marrero hits first MLB homer
Chris Marrero went 2-for-3 and finally hit his first big-league homer Friday against the Rockies.

Advice: Congratulations to Marrero, a 2006 first-round pick who debuted with the Nationals in 2011 and also saw time with the team in 2013. After missing most of last season due to a back injury, Duda has already slugged four homers through 10 games this year to go along with a .286/.390/.686 batting line. Justin Smoak crushed his first home run of the year in Friday's loss to the Orioles.

Advice: Smoak committed some lefty on lefty crime with his fourth-inning solo shot off of O's starter Wade Miley. He also had an RBI single in the second inning, finishing the night 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. With his two-hit attack, Smoak is now hitting .250/.276/.429 with three RBI on the young season.
