  • Adam Frazier not in Monday's lineup
Adam Frazier is not in Monday's lineup versus the Cubs.

Advice: He'll take a seat with southpaw Brett Anderson on the hill for Chicago. Jose Osuna will make the start in right field while Jordy Mercer will hit leadoff. 53 minutes ago

  • Nieuwenhuis accepts assignment to Triple-A
Kirk Nieuwenhuis accepted an assignment to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Advice: Nieuwenhuis surprisingly passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment on Friday. The Brewers have a crowded outfield situation in Triple-A, but Nieuwenhuis is useful depth to have around. Today, 10:53 am

  • Rutledge (hamstring) to continue rehab stint
Josh Rutledge (hamstring) has shifted his minor league rehab assignment to Double-A Portland.

Advice: Rutledge was with Triple-A Pawtucket, but they are off on Monday. Assuming all goes well, he could be ready to join the Red Sox in the next day or two. The 28-year-old began the year on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain. Today, 9:34 am
    10-Day DL
  • Duda (elbow) vows to return when eligible
Lucas Duda (elbow) believes he'll be ready to return from the disabled list when he's first eligible.

Advice: Duda landed on the disabled last week with a hyperextended left elbow. He still needs to get the range of motion in his elbow back, but he's making progress. Jay Bruce has been filling in at first base in recent days. Today, 9:00 am
    10-Day DL
  • Blue Jays transfer OF Pompey to 60-day DL
Blue Jays transferred OF Dalton Pompey from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: The move was made over the weekend and cleared a spot for Leonel Campos on the 40-man roster. Pompey suffered a concussion on a slide during the recent World Baseball Classic and still isn't back to 100 percent. He'll now be eligible to return in June. Today, 7:37 am

  • Yangervis Solarte picks up RBI single vs. MIA
Yangervis Solarte went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in Sunday's win over the Marlins.

Advice: Solarte hit an RBI single off Tom Koehler in the first inning, but was unable to come up with another hit for the duration of the contest. After hitting a respectable .286/.341/.467 in 2016, the 29-year-old second baseman is off to a .243/.325/.386 start through the first 70 at-bats of the current season. Yesterday, 5:45 pm
  • Nationals outright Grant Green to Triple-A
Nationals sent INF/OF Grant Green outright to Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: The versatile utility man was designated for assignment on Friday. He'll continue to function as organizational depth in the minors and should get another opportunity with the Nationals later in the season. Yesterday, 4:49 pm

  • Brewers outright Kirk Nieuwenhuis to Triple-A
Brewers sent OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis outright to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Advice: The 29-year-old was waived earlier this week after slashing a putrid .080/.233/.240 in his first 30 plate appearances. It's a bit surprising that no other teams were willing to take a shot on him, as at least the Pirates had been rumored to have some level of interest. He'll continue to function as minor league outfield depth for the Brewers. Yesterday, 4:39 pm

  • Tim Anderson has two hits in win over Indians
Tim Anderson went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored as the White Sox beat the Indians on Sunday.

Advice: Anderson also drew a walk in the contest and struck out twice. He's off to a rough start at the plate, so this performance was a welcomed sign for fantasy owners. Even with the two-hit day, he's only slashing .194/.217/.269 on the season. He'll get every opportunity to succeed though and continues to occupy the top spot in the White Sox lineup. Yesterday, 2:34 pm
  • Pirates have considered Kirk Nieuwenhuis
Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the Pirates have mulled Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Advice: Nieuwenhuis was designated for assignment by the Brewers Friday and the Pirates are looking for outfield help following Starling Marte's PED suspension. However, Biertempfel notes that while Nieuwenhuis offers nice defense, the Pirates seem unlikely to go after him because of his weak bat. Yesterday, 11:13 am

  • Brett Eibner optioned to Triple-A
Dodgers optioned OF Brett Eibner to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: Eibner was only up for a few days, picking up one hit in five at-bats. The club has elected to add another reliever in Adam Liberatore. Yesterday, 10:37 am

  • Leonys Martin designated for assignment
Mariners designated OF Leonys Martin for assignment.

Advice: Martin was off to a brutal .111/.172/.130 start this season, but it's a surprise that the Mariners are cutting him loose given his plus defense and ability to steal bases and offer a little pop when he's right. He could clear waivers given his $4.85 million salary, but Martin won't be out of a job long. The Tigers are an obvious fit. Jarrod Dyson will slide over to handle center field now, with the Mariners likely going with a combination of Guillermo Heredia, Taylor Motter and Danny Valencia in left. Yesterday, 10:11 am

  • Denard Span's (shoulder) X-rays are negative
X-rays on Denard Span's right shoulder came back negative.

Advice: Span injured the shoulder when he collided with the outfield wall on Saturday. While it appears he's avoided a serious injury, he's sitting out Sunday and could potentially miss more time. Gorkys Hernandez is in center field in his place. Yesterday, 10:00 am
    7:15 pm vs LAD
  • Lonnie Chisenhall sitting out on Sunday
Lonnie Chisenhall is not in the Indians' lineup Sunday.

Advice: Jason Kipnis is also sitting out as expected, and Yan Gomez is getting a day off, too. The Indians have Austin Jackson in center field, Michael Martinez at second base and Roberto Perez at catcher. Yesterday, 8:02 am
  • Kennys Vargas recalled from Triple-A
Twins recalled 1B/DH Kennys Vargas from Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: Vargas was batting .227 with two home runs in the early going with Rochester. He doesn't figure to see much playing time with Robbie Grossman faring so well in the designated hitter spot. Yesterday, 6:17 am
  • Jarrod Saltalamacchia continues to look lost
Jarrod Saltalamacchia was hitless in four at-bats with two more strikeouts in Saturday's game against the Angels.

Advice: Salty is hitless in each of his past 13 at-bats, striking out 12 times in 18 at-bats overall since having his contract purchased from Triple-A Buffalo back in early April. The veteran struggled with a .171 average with 104 strikeouts over 246 at-bats with the Tigers last season and he appears to have picked up right where he left off. Saturday, 11:35 pm
  • Ryan Schimpf continues to scuffle
Ryan Schimpf was hitless over five at-bats with three strikeouts in Saturday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: Schimpf's average tumbled to a season-low .109 and he has struck out seven times over his past 13 at-bats while whiffing 22 times in 55 at-bats. The middle infielder swatted 20 homers with 42 extra-base hits over 89 games last season, but he also struggled with a dismal .217 average with 105 strikeouts over 276 at-bats. Schimpf's poor average and strikeout totals are certainly not a surprise. Saturday, 11:20 pm
  • Denard Span (shoulder) headed for X-rays
Updating an earlier report, Denard Span suffered a minor shoulder sprain in Saturday's game against the Rockies.

Advice: He's going for X-rays. Span made a nice catch to rob Charlie Blackmon of extra bases during the third inning but banged his shoulder against the outfield wall. Manager Bruce Bochy is hoping the injury is minor but has already announced that Span won't play on Sunday. Gorkys Hernandez should man center field in his absence. Saturday, 8:38 pm
    7:15 pm vs LAD
  • Span forced to leave with shoulder injury
Denard Span left Saturday's game against the Rockies with a right shoulder injury.

Advice: Span made a terrific running catch to rob Charlie Blackmon of extra bases in the third inning but jammed his shoulder on the outfield wall. After he left, Gorkys Hernandez moved from right field to center, Eduardo Nunez shifted from third base to right field and Conor Gillaspie entered the game at third base. Span grounded out in his only at-bat of the night. He's already the second Giants outfielder to hurt himself on a play at the wall this season and it's only April. Saturday, 7:36 pm

  • Frazier goes 2-for-4 with an RBI vs Yankees
Adam Frazier went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Saturday's loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Starling Marte's 80-game suspension might provide Frazier with the opportunity he needs to make himself a nice fantasy commodity. He is batting .306/.370/.449 with one home run and five RBI in 49 at-bats. He is the obvious choice to replace Marte in the Pirates' starting lineup. His numbers this year are no fluke as he hit .301/.356/.411 in 160 plate appearances in the majors last year as a rookie and hit .320 or better in three of his four minor league seasons. Saturday, 6:03 pm
    4:05 pm vs ChC
  • Adam Frazier batting leadoff on Saturday
Adam Frazier is batting out of the leadoff spot in the Pirates' lineup against Michael Pineda and the Yankees on Saturday.

Advice: It looks as though Frazier is going to be the primary option out of that spot against right-handed pitching while Jordy Mercer gets top billing against southpaws. Frazier is hitting .289/.347/.444 with a homer and four RBI and could be relevant in mixed leagues while Starling Marte is suspended. Saturday, 9:01 am

  • Mets place Duda (elbow) on disabled list
Mets placed 1B Lucas Duda on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 20, with a hyperextended left elbow.

Advice: Duda hurt the elbow was trying to field a throw on Wednesday. It's unclear at this point how much time he'll miss. With Wilmer Flores also on the DL, Jay Bruce figures to handle first base regularly, clearing space in the lineup for Michael Conforto. Friday, 1:05 pm
    10-Day DL
  • Kirk Nieuwenhuis designated for assignment
Brewers designated OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis for assignment.

Advice: Nieuwenhuis had just two hits in his first 25 at-bats and it cost him his roster spot. He's making about twice the major league minimum, which could be a factor as the Brewers try to pass him through waivers. Friday, 12:51 pm

  • Grant Green designated for assignment

  • Duda out Thursday, Bruce starts at first base
Lucas Duda (elbow) is out of the Mets' starting lineup on Thursday against the Phillies.

Advice: Jay Bruce will start at first base for just the fourth time in his career. He's also batting cleanup versus right-hander Aaron Nola. Duda suffered a hyperextended left elbow Wednesday when the Phillies' Cesar Hernandez ran into his arm at first base following an errant throw by Robert Gsellman. It's not yet clear how long he might be out.Daily Slant: Nola will match up with a Mets squad that is able to counteract Nola's prowess versus RH bats (27.8% K%, 3.5% BB% in 2016) with six LH bats. Nola is still slightly above average against LHs, but his strikeout rate dips to 21.9% and his walk rate balloons to 8.8% with a 30.1% hard contact rate. On the other hand, a Mets stack is far from recommended, though if targeting one-offs for their power potential, Jay Bruce, Michael Conforto, Asdrubal Cabrera and Curtis Granderson lead the short list of lefties with tournament appeal. • Duda removed with hyperextended left elbow
Lucas Duda was lifted from Wednesday's game against the Phillies due to a hyperextended left elbow.

Advice: Duda paid the price for an errant throw by Robert Gsellman in the fifth inning. On the play in question, Cesar Hernandez collided with Duda's arm at first base. Wilmer Flores subsequently pinch-hit for Duda in the bottom of the frame. Consider the first baseman day-to-day until the Mets offer a more specific update as to a recovery timetable. He will be reevaluated on Thursday. Wednesday, 5:50 pm
    10-Day DL
  • Dodgers call up OF Eibner from Triple-A
Dodgers recalled OF Brett Eibner from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: Eibner will be tossed into the fire immediately, as he draws a start in center field against the Rockies on Wednesday. The 28-year-old outfielder will hit seventh in the contest. Prior to receiving the call to the bigs, Eibner was hitting a blistering .344/.389/.656 with three home runs, eight RBI, and eight runs scored in 12 games played at Triple-A. Wednesday, 4:44 pm

  • Rutledge (hamstring) set for rehab games
Josh Rutledge (hamstring) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Pawtucket.

Advice: Rutledge is batting third and serving as the DH for the PawSox. He should be ready to join Boston's active roster as a utility infielder over the weekend. Tuesday, 12:56 pm
    10-Day DL
  • Adam Frazier clubs three-run homer in win
Adam Frazier went 3-for-4 with a double and a three-run home run in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Frazier was already working on a 2-for-3 day when he stepped to the plate with two on and nobody out in the ninth inning. His three-run home run in that spot propelled the Pirates to a 6-1 lead, which would stand as the final. This was Frazier's first home run of the season. The 25-year-old infielder finished up the weekend series hot, picking up five hits in nine at-bats on Saturday and Sunday. Three of those went for extra bases. Apr 16, 2:36 pm
    4:05 pm vs ChC
  • Schimpf slugs third home run vs. Braves
Ryan Schimpf slugged his third home run of the season Sunday in the Padres' loss to the Braves.

Advice: It was a solo shot in the second inning off Braves starter Bartolo Colon -- the only run Colon allowed over his seven strong frames. Schimpf also drew two walks and finished the game with two runs scored. Apr 16, 2:35 pm
  • Tim Anderson gets the day off Sunday
Tim Anderson is absent from the White Sox starting lineup Sunday versus the Twins.

Advice: It's a day of mental rest for the struggling shortstop, who owns a weak .140/.159/.209 batting line through 10 regular-season games. Leury Garcia will start at short and bat leadoff versus Minnesota. Apr 16, 10:20 am
  • Chisenhall stays hot, homers in 2nd straight
Lonnie Chisenhall went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored in a win over the Tigers on Saturday.

Advice: Making his second start in center field, Chisenhall showed why Indians manager Terry Francona is shoehorning his bat into the lineup with a two-run shot off Justin Verlander in the third inning. The homer was his second in as many days after he smacked a pinch-hit grand slam in Friday's game. Not known as much of a power hitter, the 28-year-old will hit for average but little else and should still be ignored in the majority of fantasy leagues. Apr 15, 9:06 pm
  • Lucas Duda sitting against Adam Conley
Lucas Duda is not in the Mets' lineup Saturday against the Marlins.

Advice: Duda hasn't been starting against lefties. Wilmer Flores will fill in at first base and bat cleanup against Marlins southpaw Adam Conley. Duda is off to a decent start with four homers and a .286 average through his first 35 at-bats. Apr 15, 1:13 pm
    10-Day DL
  • Adam Frazier hits leadoff for Bucs Saturday
Adam Frazier is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff for the Pirates against Jake Arrieta and the Cubs on Saturday.

Advice: It's a routine day off for Jordy Mercer, so Frazier will have an opportunity to hit atop the lineup. The 25-year-old is hitting .269/.367/.308 with no homers or RBI in 30 plate appearances this season. Apr 15, 7:41 am
    4:05 pm vs ChC
  • Lonnie Chisenhall's grand slam not enough
Lonnie Chisenhall blasted a pinch-hit grand slam off of Francisco Rodriguez in the ninth inning on Friday, but it still wasn't enough to complete a comeback against the Tigers.

Advice: The Indians entered the ninth inning facing a 7-1 deficit, but quickly got things going against Tigers' rookie reliever William Cuevas, forcing manager Brad Ausmus to turn to his closer. Chisenhall tagged Rodriguez for the two-out slam, cutting the lead to 7-6, but that would be as close as the Tribe would get. Apr 14, 8:15 pm
  • Duda homers again Friday vs. Marlins
Lucas Duda went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two walks in Friday’s loss to the Marlins.

Advice: The solo homer was a long blast to straightaway center field. After missing most of last season due to a back injury, Duda has already slugged four homers through 10 games this year to go along with a .286/.390/.686 batting line. He’s going to sit against lefties, but it’s time to pick him up in mixed leagues Apr 14, 8:03 pm
    10-Day DL
