• Reaches deal to stay in L.A.
Heyward agreed Monday with the Dodgers on a one-year, $9 million contract, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Heyward and the Dodgers will run it back after he was surprisingly productive in 2023, slashing .269/.340/.473 with 15 home runs and 40 RBI over 377 plate appearances. His .813 OPS this past season was his highest mark since 2012, excluding the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign. The 34-year-old should fill a similar role again in 2024, starting in right field against righties while occasionally filling in as a center fielder. The Dodgers' decision to bring back Heyward also means that Mookie Betts will continue to see more action at second base. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:07 am

  • Report: Dodgers set to re-sign Jason Heyward
The Dodgers are close to re-signing free ageny outfielder Jason Heyward to a one-year contract, ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel reports.

Advice: It’s a $9 million deal. After a miserable final two years in Chicago, Heyward had a terrific 2023 as a part-timer for the Dodgers, hitting .269/.340/.473 in 377 plate appearances. He’ll probably step in for David Peralta as the team’s primary left fielder against right-handers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:00 am

  • Braves re-sign INF/OF Luke Williams to minors pact
Braves re-signed INF/OF Luke Williams to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: Williams is back in the fold with the Braves as extra utility infield depth heading into the 2024 campaign. The 27-year-old reserve, who got into four contests last season as an emergency stopgap at shortstop for the Dodgers, will presumably compete in spring training for a spot on Atlanta’s season-opening roster. He’s merely organizational depth at this stage of his career. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:11 pm

  • Giants sign Yusniel Díaz to minor league deal
Giants signed OF Yusniel Díaz to a minor league contract.

Advice: Díaz, a one-time top prospect viewed as the best player the Orioles got from the Dodgers in the Manny Machado deal in 2018, spent last year back in the Dodgers system, hitting .278/.374/.484 for Double-A Tulsa. He’s 27 now, and it’s not particularly likely that he’ll surface in the majors with the Giants. Rotoworld Wednesday, 8:06 am

  • Lands deal with San Francisco
Diaz signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Tuesday.

Advice: Diaz, 27, slashed .278/.374/.484 with 16 home runs over 94 games with Double-A Tulsa in the Dodgers organization last season. The shine has long since worn off since his top prospect days, but Diaz is still fairly young and the Giants felt he was worth a no-risk flier. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:03 am

  • Nabs MiLB deal from Bucs
Celestino agreed to a minor-league deal with the Pirates on Monday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: The deal presumably includes an invitation to big-league spring training, where Celestino could get the chance to compete for a reserve outfield spot on the Pirates' Opening Day roster. The 24-year-old possesses a decent amount of speed and is regarded as a solid defender, but he owns an underwhelming .222/.292/.300 slash line over 409 career MLB plate appearances. He didn't see any action in the majors in 2023, as he opened the season on the Twins' injured list after requiring surgery in March to address a torn UCL in his left thumb and remained in the minors once he was cleared for game action in late May. • Pirates sign OF Gilberto Celestino to minors deal
Pirates signed OF Gilberto Celestino to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: The 24-year-old outfielder was limited to 55 games for the Twins this year after suffering a ruptured UCL in his left thumb in May 2023. He previously appeared 122 games in 2022, posting a .238/.313/.302 slash line with two home runs, 30 runs, 24 RBI, and four steals. He’s an excellent defender, but doesn’t bring much on the offensive end. Rotoworld Monday, 12:50 pm

  • Resumes running
Garrett (fibula) said that he's no longer wearing a boot on his left foot and was able to resume running on a treadmill Monday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Garret underwent surgery in late August to address a fractured fibula and also had a procedure on his ankle, resulting in him behind slightly behind schedule as he begins his offseason training program. The 28-year-old said he's still aiming to be ready to go for spring training, and the fact that he's already running three months before position players report to camp is a positive sign. Garrett served primarily as a short-side platoon option at left field and designated hitter in 2023, batting .269 with nine home runs, three stolen bases, 40 RBI and 40 runs over 89 games. • Royals re-sign OF Diego Hernández to minors contract
Royals re-signed OF Diego Hernández to a minor league contract.

Advice: Hernández is back with the Royals just a few hours after being non-tendered. The 22-year-old outfield prospect is no longer on Kansas City’s 40-man roster after missing a significant portion of last year due to a dislocated right shoulder. Rotoworld Nov 18, 6:35 am
