• Set for season-ending surgery
Winn is scheduled for an ulnar nerve transposition procedure on his right elbow Monday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Winn was initially placed on the 15-day injured list June 22 due to a nerve issue in his right elbow. He began his rehab program by throwing bullpen sessions in early July, but he was shut down from throwing Monday after experiencing additional discomfort in his right elbow. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on Wednesday, and with his surgery scheduled for Monday, the 26-year-old right-hander's season is officially over. He started in 12 games for the Giants before landing on the IL, going 3-8 with a 7.16 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 48:20 K:BB across 55.1 innings. Winn will now shift his attention to returning to the mound for the 2025 season. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago

  • Gregory Santos (knee) could return on Saturday
Gregory Santos (knee) underwent a precautionary MRI exam that revealed no structural damage.

Advice: The Mariners are now optimistic that Santos will be able to avoid a stint on the injured list and could even return to action as early as Saturday. He’ll go through a pregame workout on Friday and if all goes well he’ll be cleared to return to the M’s bullpen. Rotoworld 5 minutes ago

  • Keaton Winn to undergo season-ending surgery
Keaton Winn will undergo season-ending elbow surgery next week.

Advice: The right-hander will have an ulnar nerve transposition performed. He’ll miss the remainder of the 2024 season and it’s unclear when exactly he’ll be able to get a start on the 2025 campaign, but he shouldn’t miss as long as he would have if undergoing Tommy John surgery. • Merrill Kelly throws simulated game on Thursday
Merrill Kelly (shoulder) completed two innings in a simulated game without any issues on Thursday.

Advice: The right-hander will throw another bullpen session on Sunday before progressing to a three-inning simulated game next week. If all goes well with both of those sessions, the 35-year-old hurler could then be cleared to start a minor league rehab assignment. It seems likely that Kelly will require at least two starts there before he’s an option to return to the Diamondbacks’ rotation. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

  • Eduardo Rodriguez throws simulated game on Friday
Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) threw two innings in a simulated game without issue on Friday.

Advice: He’ll throw another bullpen session on Monday and then if all is good he’ll progress to a three-inning simulated game next week. If that outing goes well, he could then be cleared to head out on a minor league rehab assignment. It’s still unlikely that the 31-year-old southpaw will make his Diamondbacks’ debut before the end of August. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

  • Could return Saturday
Mariners manager Scott Servais said Friday that the results of Santos' MRI on his right knee "came back OK," Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's not as promising as hearing that the MRI came back clean, but it appears Santos will avoid a stint on the IL and could be available as soon as Saturday. Santos was removed in the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against the Angels after being called for a balk. Before exiting Wednesday, he allowed two runs on two hits while striking out one over 0.2 innings. Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago

  • Rays acquire Cole Sulser from Mets on Friday
Rays acquired RHP Cole Sulser from the Mets for cash considerations.

Advice: The 34-year-old right-hander had been designated for assignment by the Mets earlier in the week, so they were content to flip him for anything that they could get at this point. He had posted a 9.64 ERA and 1.92 WHIP in just 4 2/3 innings for the Mets prior to getting waived. Expect Sulser to join the Rays’ active roster on Saturday. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago

  • Rays recall Tyler Zuber from Triple-A Durham
Rays recalled RHP Tyler Zuber from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Zuber was just optioned out on Tuesday, but he’ll head right back to join the big-league bullpen after Randy Arozarena was dealt away to the Mariners on Thursday night. Expect that the 29-year-old hurler will be utilized in the middle innings by manager Kevin Cash. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago
  • Traded to Tampa Bay
The Mets traded Sulser to the Rays on Friday for cash, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Sulser was designated for assignment by the Mets on Monday, but instead of being claimed off waivers, the 34-year-old right-hander will head to Tampa Bay via trade. Across four major-league outings this season, Sulser has given up five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven across 4.2 innings. He's had far more success across his 24 outings with Triple-A Syracuse this season, posting a 1.48 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 30.1 frames. He'll stay at that level, with the Rays optioning Sulser to Durham following the trade. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago
