• Can't get through five
Cortes allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks over 4.2 innings in a no-decision Friday against the Red Sox. He struck out five.

Advice: Cortes has now failed to make it through the fifth inning in three straight starts -- he's allowed 15 runs over 13.1 innings in that span. Overall, the left-hander is 4-9 with a 4.13 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 116:26 K:BB across 22 starts this season. Cortes will look to right the ship his next time out, though he's currently in line for a tough road matchup in Philadelphia. Rotowire.com 4 minutes ago

  • Gives up four runs in no-decision
Heaney didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Blue Jays, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Most of the damage against Heaney came early Friday, as Toronto scored three times on a pair of doubles in the first inning. It's the first time since April 25 that Heaney's been charged with more than three earned runs in a start -- he'd posted a 2.81 ERA in 15 outings prior to Friday. Overall, the left-hander is 4-10 this year with a 3.77 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 105:30 K:BB across 105 innings. Heaney's currently in line to face the Cardinals on the road in his next start, barring the Rangers don't make a move before next week's trade deadline. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

  • Tagged with sixth loss
Sanchez (7-6) took the loss Friday vs the Guardians, giving up three runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Sanchez got little run support from his offense, as he ended up with the loss despite tossing a quality start. Sanchez now has lost three of his last four starts after a streak of 11 consecutive outings without a loss. The 27-year-old remains a steady option with quality starts in nine of his last 14 starts, and he's allowed just three home runs in 115 innings this season. Sanchez will take a 3.05 ERA into his next start, tentatively scheduled vs the Yankees. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago
  • Andrew Heaney uneven across five innings
Andrew Heaney allowed seven hits and four runs in five innings of work on Friday against the Blue Jays. He struck out four and walked one in a no-decision.

Advice: Heaney struggled to put right-handed batters away in this one with a good feel for his changeup. Toronto put at least one runner on base in four of Heaney’s five innings and nothing felt easy for him. This broke a streak of five straight starts in which he allowed two or fewer runs. • Yusei Kikuchi hit hard by Rangers
Yusei Kikuchi surrendered eight hits and five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings on Friday against the Rangers. He struck out five and walked two in a no-decision.

Advice: Kikuchi got crushed in this one. The Rangers laced 10 hard-hit balls and Kikuchi was fortunate to allow just one extra-base hit, a two-run homer from Adolis García just before he got the hook. Absolutely nothing worked for Kikuchi in what may have been his final start as a Blue Jay. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago

  • Another short outing
Kikuchi didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Rangers, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: It's been a struggle for Kikuchi of late -- the left-hander has now gone eight starts without a win, posting a 7.79 ERA in that span while failing to make it through six innings in seven of those outings. Overall, Kikuchi is 4-9 with a 4.75 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 130:30 K:BB across 115.2 innings. Despite his recent troubles, Kikuchi could very well be on the move prior to next week's trade deadline, with multiple contenders looking to reinforce their rotations. • George Kirby blanks White Sox over seven innings
George Kirby struck out seven over seven scoreless innings while picking up a win in a 10- victory for Seattle over the White Sox on Friday.

Advice: Kirby had been handed a total of seven runs of support in his last four starts. The Mariners scored eight in the first to basically guarantee the victory. The right-hander scattered six hits and issued a walk — just his 14th of the season — and he was able to eliminate anything that even resembled a jam. After seeing his ERA bump up to 4.33 after a tough start against Baltimore, Kirby has been sensational, and he now is the proud owner of an ERA of 3.03. He’s scheduled to face the Red Sox on Wednesday. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

  • Drew Thorpe gives up eight runs, gets two outs
Drew Thorpe was tagged for eight runs in 2/3 of an inning in a loss to the Mariners on Friday.

Advice: Yuck. Thorpe was fantastic in his previous few starts. This was ugly. He almost escaped a bases-loaded jam scoreless in the first, but a two-run double by Jason Vosler was followed by an RBI double by Mitch Garver; and Josh Rojas, Dylan Moore and Victor Robles went back-to-back-to-back. This saw Thorpe’s ERA jump up to 4.81 from 3.03. He should be better — he can’t be worse — Wednesday against the Royals. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

  • Goes five innings in no-decision
Rodriguez didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Padres, allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Rodriguez got off to a good start Friday, scattering five hits to blank San Diego through his first five innings. However, Luis Arraez would lead off the sixth with a single before Jurickson Profar launched a game-tying, two-run homer, forcing Baltimore to turn to the bullpen. It's just the second time in Rodriguez's last six starts that he failed to make it through six innings. Overall, the 24-year-old right-hander is 12-4 with a 3.82 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 122:33 K:BB across 19 starts this year. Rodriguez is currently slated to face the Blue Jays at home next week in his next outing. Rotowire.com 54 minutes ago
