• Latches on with Mets
Wendle signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Mets on Wednesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Advice: After two seasons with the Marlins, Wendle will remain in the NL East and presumably serve in a utility role with the Mets. The 33-year-old infielder had his worst season at the plate in 2023, slashing .212/.248/.306 across 318 plate appearances. While Wendle's defensive versatility may get him in the lineup fairly often next year, his poor bat puts a low ceiling on his fantasy value. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:57 pm

  • Report: Mets, Joey Wendle agree to 1-yr, $2M deal
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports the Mets are in agreement with free agent infielder Joey Wendle on a one-year, $2 million contract.

Advice: The deal, which is pending a physical, will bring Wendle to Queens after spending the last two seasons with the division-rival Marlins where he posted an underwhelming .610 OPS with five homers and 19 steals across 689 plate appearances over 213 contests. The 33-year-old veteran infielder still offers plenty of defensive versatility, which makes him ideal for a utility role, but he’s not going to make much of an impact at the dish for New York. His presence could make it more difficult for some of the Mets’ top prospects to make their season-opening roster. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:42 pm

  • Inks one-year deal with KC
Hampson signed a one-year contract with the Royals on Wednesday.

Advice: The deal is worth $2 million guaranteed, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.com. Hampson was non-tendered by the Marlins earlier this month despite posting a career-best .276/.349/.380 batting line over 98 games in 2023 while appearing defensively at shortstop, second base, third base and all three outfield spots. The 29-year-old should be a useful super-utility option for Kansas City in 2024. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:43 pm

  • Royals sign Garrett Hampson to one-year contract
Royals signed INF/OF Garrett Hampson to a one-year, $2 million contract.

Advice: Hampson figures to open next season in a versatile utility role for the rebuilding Royals. The 29-year-old former top prospect, who never quite blossomed into the elite batting average and stolen base threat fantasy managers envisioned during his Rockies tenure, posted a .729 OPS with three homers and five steals in 252 plate appearances last year for the Marlins in a bench role. • Nelson Cruz takes job with Dodgers
The newly retired Nelson Cruz is signing on with the Dodgers organization as an advisor.

Advice: Usually, we think of players going to work for one of their former teams in situations like this, but the Dodgers were not one of the nine teams to employ Cruz during his 23 years as a pro. Obviously, they’ve admired him from afar anyway. Cruz retired earlier this month after hitting 464 homers in 19 major league seasons. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:04 am

  • Cody Bellinger takes N.L. Comeback POY honors
Cody Bellinger was named as the Comeback Player of the Year in the National League for the 2023 season.

Advice: The 28-year-old superstar bet on himself — taking a one-year deal with the Cubs after several disappointing seasons to end his Dodgers’ tenure — and that gamble paid off in a big way as he slashed an outstanding .307/.356/.525 with 26 long balls, 95 runs scored, 97 RBI and 20 stolen bases across 556 plate appearances in his 130 games. He’s expected to land an extremely lucrative multi-year contract this winter — with MLBTradeRumors.com projecting that he’ll wind up in the neighborhood of 12 years and $264 million. • Dropped from 40-man roster
Haseley was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Tuesday, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for Paul DeJong, whose one-year, $1.75 million agreement with Chicago has now been made official. Haseley, 27, slashed just .222/.282/.278 over 39 major-league plate appearances in 2023 and also had underwhelming numbers with Triple-A Charlotte. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 8:09 am

White Sox designated OF Adam Haseley for assignment.

Advice: Haseley has been removed from Chicago’s 40-man roster to make room for newly-signed veteran infielder Paul DeJong. The 27-year-old former top-10 overall pick from the 2017 MLB Draft got into 28 games this past season for the White Sox. He’ll likely be able to latch on somewhere else this offseason as a bench outfielder. Rotoworld Tuesday, 8:08 am

  • Brewers sign OF Brewer Hicklen to minors contract
Brewers signed OF Brewer Hicklen to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: It’s fitting that Brewer wound up in Milwaukee at some point during his career. Hicklen got into six contests for the Royals during the 2022 campaign and split last year between the Royals and Phillies at the Triple-A level, slashing .236/.350/.455 with 10 homers and 21 steals across 286 plate appearances in 72 games. The 27-year-old represents valuable organizational outfield depth heading into the 2024 season. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:54 am
