• Guardians lose reliever Nick Sandlin to IL
Guardians placed RHP Nick Sandlin on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 17, with lower back inflammation.

Advice: Sandlin gave up three runs in his last appearance to take his ERA from 2.54 to 3.49. The Guardians will lean a little more on Scott Barlow and Sam Hentges now. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago

  • Guardians recall Darren McCaughan
Guardians recalled RHP Darren McCaughan from Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: It’s McCaughan’s first time in the majors with the Guardians, who picked him up from the Marlins last month. He has a 9.16 ERA in 18 2/3 innings since debuting with the Mariners in 2021. His Triple-A ERA stood at 5.06 through six starts with Columbus. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago
  • Leaves following HBP on elbow
Arenado was removed from Wednesday's game in Miami after being hit by a pitch on the right elbow, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. He went 2-for-3 with his first stolen base of the season and a run scored prior to exiting the game.

Advice: A Huascar Brazoban offering in the top of the eighth inning caught Arenado, who went down in a heap. He looked to be in considerable pain and eventually exited the field with a trainer. The Cardinals should have more on his condition shortly. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago

  • Bryan Reynolds crushes go-ahead homer vs. Reds
Bryan Reynolds launched a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth inning on Wednesday, lifting the Pirates to a 1-0 victory over the Reds.

Advice: Reynolds snapped a scoreless stalemate by taking Reds reliever Nick Martinez deep to left-center field with two outs in the eighth inning. It was his 10th round-tripper of the season and wound up being the lone tally for either side in a throwback pitcher’s duel on a sizzling-hot, 87-degree afternoon at PNC Park. The 29-year-old outfielder is batting .343 (24-for-70) with three homers, 10 RBI and one steal in 17 games since the outset of June. Rotoworld 38 minutes ago

  • Summoned from Triple-A
The Guardians recalled McCaughan from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.

Advice: McCaughan will be joining the big club for the first time since being acquired from the Marlins on May 9. The 28-year-old right-hander had been starting at Columbus, logging a 5.06 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 33:12 K:BB in 32 innings. He'll work out of the bullpen in his first stint with Cleveland, joining the relief ranks as a replacement for right-hander Nick Sandlin (back), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. • Nearing mound work
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Rodriguez will likely begin throwing off a mound within the next week after the latest imaging on his left shoulder showed "almost 100 percent healing," Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Rodriguez has been out all season with a left shoulder strain, having hit a roadblock in April when he experienced renewed tightness. He's trending in a positive direction now, although he'll require a lengthy ramp-up period upon resuming mound work. Rotowire.com 38 minutes ago
  • Hunter Greene posts nine strikeouts vs. Pirates
Hunter Greene matched a season-high with nine strikeouts over 6 1/3 shutout innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: Greene locked horns with Pirates starter Mitch Keller in a throwback pitcher’s duel on Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park, limiting Pittsburgh’s lineup to just four baserunners (two hits and a pair of hit batters) into the seventh inning. The hard-throwing 24-year-old right-hander’s four-seam fastball velocity was up slightly in this one to 98.5 mph as he generated an impressive 17 swinging strikes, with 16 of those courtesy of his fastball/slider combo. It was a relief to see him avoid handing out any free passes in this one after issuing a season-high five walks in his previous outing. He’ll carry a solid 3.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 98/37 K/BB ratio across 88 2/3 innings (15 starts) into a rematch against the Pirates on Tuesday back in Cincinnati. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • Nolan Arenado exits after taking pitch off right elbow
Nolan Arenado left Wednesday’s game against the Marlins after being hit on the right elbow by a pitch.

Advice: Arenado was still in a whole lot of pain and not moving his arm as he was helped off. José Fermín replaced him in the contest. If Arenado goes on the IL, Fermín would stand to benefit, but the Cardinals could also give Brandon Donovan more infield time. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • Shelved with back inflammation
The Guardians placed Sandlin on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with lower back inflammation, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Sandlin's move to the IL comes three days after he was lit up for three earned runs on three hits and two walks while failing to record an out in his relief appearance in Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays. The Guardians called up right-hander Darren McCaughan from Triple-A Columbus to replace Sandlin in the bullpen. Rotowire.com 41 minutes ago
