    • Corbin Carroll sitting Tuesday against southpaw
Corbin Carroll is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Braves.

Advice: Carroll is predictably on the bench to open Tuesday’s contest with Braves lefty ace Chris Sale toeing the rubber. The 23-year-old outfielder went deep over the weekend for his first homer since May 7. Rotoworld Today, 3:32 pm
    • Idle against southpaw
Carroll is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Carroll will dodge a matchup with southpaw Chris Sale on Tuesday. Randal Grichuk, Alek Thomas and Jake McCarthy fill the outfield from left to right. Rotowire.com Today, 1:44 pm
    • Rafael Devers drops out of ’24 MLB All-Star Game
Rafael Devers won’t participate in the 2024 MLB All-Star game due to a lingering left shoulder injury.

Advice: Devers has elected to drop out of the Midsummer Classic to give his left shoulder some extra rest. The 27-year-old slugger, who has been playing through the lingering issue for months at this point, has been Boston’s primary offensive catalyst this season as they’ve emerged as a surprise contender in the AL East. His departure from the American League’s roster would seem to pave the way for Jordan Westburg, who finished third in balloting at the hot corner, to take his spot. Rotoworld Today, 1:25 pm

    • Will rest shoulder over break
Devers will skip next week's All-Star Game in order to rest a nagging left shoulder injury, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Devers missed a few games back in April after injuring the shoulder and it's evidently still caused discomfort at times. The third baseman's production has gotten better every month this season, so the injury doesn't seem to be affecting him much. He has started every game since June 11, including Tuesday's versus the Athletics. Still, Devers and the Red Sox felt it was best for him to rest up over the All-Star break. A replacement for Devers on the American League roster will be announced in the coming days. Rotowire.com Today, 1:25 pm

    • Officially activated
The Phillies reinstated Schwarber (groin) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Just as manager Rob Thomson suggested over the weekend would be the case, Schwarber will return to the 26-man active roster ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Dodgers. He'll likely slot back in atop the Philadelphia lineup as the team's designated hitter Tuesday against Dodgers right-hander Bobby Miller. Rotowire.com Today, 12:05 pm

    • Phillies activate Kyle Schwarber on Tuesday
Phillies activated OF Kyle Schwarber from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Schwarber is back, and so is Bryce Harper (hamstring). Schwarber missed just a little over the minimum stint while dealing with his groin issue, and the power-hitting 31-year-old should hit at the top of the lineup again for a loaded Philadelphia group. • Steals, scores in loss
Carroll went 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to Atlanta.

Advice: Carroll was part of the Diamondbacks' three-run sixth inning to grab the lead. He singled in a run, stole a base, then came home on a bases-loaded walk. The steal was his team-leading 16th. Carroll has moments where he can impact a game -- he had a leadoff home run Sunday -- but overall the outfielder continues to struggle at the dish. That two-week stretch early in June when Carroll had a .943 OPS has given way to a .521 figure over the last 17 games. Rotowire.com Today, 4:13 am
    • Mike Trout (knee) works out on field before game
Mike Trout took soft toss and jogged outside on the field prior to Monday’s game.

Advice: “I feel great, I feel fine and I’m progressing the way I should be,” Trout said. “It’s good to get out there and start moving around instead of being in the weight room and the cage. It’s all about the progression of running. I feel good hitting. I took 30 swings out there with no pain at all.” Trout is aiming to return from knee surgery late this month. • Could start batting practice soon
Trout (knee) jogged on the field and hit some soft toss Monday, and the 32-year-old outfielder said he should progress to batting practice in a few days, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Trout continues to work his way back from surgery on the torn meniscus in his left knee in early May. It took him until late June to return to baseball activities, but he has been ramping up his workouts and is close to taking the next step in his rehab program. Trout is aiming to return from the injured list by the end of July, but he'll likely need a rehab assignment before returning to major-league action. Prior to his injury, Trout was slashing .220/.325/.541 with 10 home runs and 14 RBI over 126 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:09 pm
