    • Set to start Saturday
Hancock, who is with the Mariners' taxi squad, is slated to start Saturday against the Blue Jays, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: In his last start in the majors, Hancock allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one over seven innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on June 13. He has a 4.79 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over eight major-league starts this season. Hancock's spot start Saturday gives the Mariners' rotation extra rest while Bryan Woo (hamstring) begins his rehab assignment with High-A Everett over the weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 3:32 pm
    • Emerson Hancock to start for Mariners on Saturday
Emerson Hancock will be recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to start for the Mariners on Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Hancock is already with the team on their taxi squad, but he’ll officially get the call prior to Saturday’s game. The 25-year-old right-hander has already made eight starts for the M’s this season, posting a 4.79 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 24/13 K/BB ratio over 41 1/3 innings. The Blue Jays’ offense as a whole has been better of late though, so it’s no longer the strong streaming target that it was earlier in the season. Rotoworld Today, 3:29 pm
    • Dane Dunning (shoulder) lands on 15-day IL
Rangers placed RHP Dane Dunning on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to July 4, with right shoulder soreness.

Advice: Adding injury to insult after Dunning was demoted to the Rangers’ bullpen at the end of June, he’ll now be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks while dealing with a balky shoulder. Josh Sborz was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move to replace him in the Rangers’ bullpen on Friday. Rotoworld Today, 3:07 pm

    • Shane Baz promoted for 2024 debut on Friday
Rays recalled RHP Shane Baz from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Finally, the 25-year-old right-hander will make his highly anticipated 2024 regular season debut on Friday evening against the Rangers. Baz made 10 starts at Triple-A Durham while building up his stamina, registering a 4.12 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and a 44/23 K/BB ratio across 39 1/3 innings of work. He’ll probably only go five innings in Friday’s start against the Rangers, so fantasy managers should temper expectations for a victory in his first start. He should deliver plenty of strikeouts though. Rotoworld Today, 2:53 pm

    • Continuing rehab at Triple-A
The Yankees transferred Brubaker's (elbow) rehab assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Advice: Brubaker made one appearance with Double-A Somerset and will continue his rehab at Triple-A. The 30-year-old has been recovering from Tommy John surgery since April on 2023 and is approaching a return to big-league action. It's unclear how many outings Brubaker will need at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but it's likely he'll be back sometime in July. Rotowire.com Today, 2:37 pm

    • Trending towards return Monday
Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Friday that Paddack (arm) is doing well in his rehab program and is expected to start in Monday's series opener against the White Sox, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Paddack landed on the 15-day injured list June 25 due to right forearm fatigue. Not much of a surprise, given 2024 is the 28-year-old right-hander's first full season of pitching since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2022. Paddack is 5-3 over 15 starts with a 5.29 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 70:18 K:BB over 78.1 innings this season. If he does return Monday, he'll face a White Sox team that ranks 29th this season in both batting average (.221) and OPS (.632). Rotowire.com Today, 2:34 pm

    • Justin Steele throws complete game for first win
Justin Steele went the distance for his first win of 2024, pitching a two-hitting in a 5-1 game against the Angels.

Advice: The Cubs didn’t need to turn to their shaky pen this time out, as Steele finished off the Angels in just 95 pitches. He struck out seven and walked two for his first win in 13 starts this season and 18 outings dating back to last year, when he opened up 16-3 before going 0-2 in his final four turns and perhaps costing himself a Cy Young Award. Of course, it was hardly his fault that he was 0-3 this year coming into this one. His ERA stands at 2.95 after this one. Rotoworld Today, 2:32 pm

    • Throws complete game for first win
Steele (1-3) earned the win against the Angels on Friday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over nine innings.

Advice: Steele needed just 95 pitches to toss his first career complete game. The only blemish was an RBI single by Taylor Ward in the fifth, but the lefty responded by retiring 13 consecutive batters to seal his much overdue first win of the year. The 29-year-old has logged six straight quality starts and owns a 2.95 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 77:18 K:BB over 79.1 innings this season. He lines up for a road matchup with the Orioles next week. • To IL with shoulder soreness
The Rangers placed Dunning on the 15-day injured list Friday with right shoulder soreness, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: This is the second shoulder-related IL stint for Dunning, who also missed a couple weeks of action in May. It's not clear at this point how long he might be sidelined this time around. Dunning was demoted to the Rangers' bullpen late last month to accommodate Max Scherzer's return. Rotowire.com Today, 1:46 pm
