    • George Springer in Saturday’s lineup vs. Yankees
George Springer (hand) is in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Yankees.

Advice: This certainly qualifies as a welcome surprise for fantasy managers following Springer’s early exit from Friday’s game against the Yankees after being hit on his left hand by a 93.5 mph fastball. The positive news here is that precautionary X-rays came back negative for any fractures and the fact that he’s already back in the lineup means that the swelling isn’t bad enough that it’s preventing him from gripping a bat. It’s been a down year offensively for the 34-year-old veteran outfielder, but the Blue Jays need his bat in the lineup if they’re going to have any shot at turning things around before the trade deadline. • In lineup Saturday after HBP
Springer (hand) is starting in right field and batting fifth for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: Springer left in the seventh inning of Friday's 16-5 loss to the Yankees after taking a fastball of his left hand in the bottom of the fifth. Springer is hitting .207 for the season, but over his last five games he's gone 8-for-19 with three home runs and 10 RBI. He'll face off against Yankees southpaw Nestor Cortes on Saturday. • Gets aboard four times in win
Gelof went 3-for-4 with a triple, a walk, one RBI, one stolen base and two runs scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Gelof had gone 2-for-17 over his previous five contests before his big game Friday. The second baseman's triple was his second of the campaign and his first extra-base hit since June 20. He's at a .205/.259/.362 slash line with eight home runs, 22 RBI, 25 runs scored and nine steals across 62 games this year. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:05 pm

    • Zack Gelof picks up three hits, steal in victory
Zack Gelof stole a base and went 3-for-4 in a win over the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Advice: Gelof also scored two runs and drew a walk for a big fantasy night for the second-year 24-year-old. One of the hits was a triple — his second of the season — and his steal gives him nine of the season. it’s nice to see some success for Gelof as a reminder that there’s some long-term potential in his bat, as a .205/.259/.352 slash doesn’t exactly scream fantasy upside. • Allows two runs in loss
Scherzer (1-1) took the loss against the Orioles on Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings.

Advice: Scherzer surrendered a solo home run to Colton Cowser in the fourth inning and an RBI single to Gunnar Henderson in the fifth. He retired the first batter of the sixth frame but was pulled at 77 pitches, as he is still building up his pitch count. The 39-year-old passed Greg Maddux for 11th on the all-time strikeout list and now has 3,375 career punchouts. In two starts this season, he owns a 1.74 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 8:2 K:BB over 10.1 innings and lines up to face the Padres next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:56 pm

    • Exits after HBP
Springer was removed from Friday's game against the Yankees due to a left hand contusion.

Advice: Springer took a 93-mph fastball off his hand/wrist during the fifth inning. He remained in the game to run the bases and play defense, but he was eventually pinch hit for by Davis Schneider in the seventh frame. Precautionary imaging on Springer's hand came back negative for a fracture, and his ability to remain in the game immediately following the incident is a good sign he'll be available for Saturday's contest. • Max Scherzer wills his way to an effective start
Max Scherzer allowed two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings on Friday against the Orioles. He struck out four and walked two in a loss.

Advice: This version of Scherzer could be effective if he wasn’t pitching against the best lineup in baseball. He stayed around the zone, made hitters feel uncomfortable, mixed all five of his pitches, and got his fastball up to 95 MPH. It isn’t pretty, but there’s still a fierce competitor here with a wide repertoire who knows how to wield it. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:43 pm

    • George Springer (hand) exits after hit by pitch
George Springer was removed from Friday night’s battle against the Yankees after being hit on the left hand by a pitch thrown by Michael Tonkin.

Advice: The Blue Jays announced that Springer underwent precautionary imaging on his hand that came back negative for any fractures. That doesn’t mean he’s completely out of the woods, but it’s a very encouraging sign. For now, he’s being considered day-to-day with a left hand contusion. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:39 pm

    • Byron Buxton not in Twins’ lineup on Friday
Byron Buxton is not in the Twins’ starting lineup for Friday night’s soiree against the Mariners in Seattle.

Advice: The Twins have been sure to mix in the occasional off-day into Buxton’s schedule this season as a way to keep him healthy and fresh. It’s an interesting spot for one though after he went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer on Thursday afternoon. Expect him to return to the starting lineup on Saturday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:21 pm
