• Nick Gonzales hits fourth homer Thursday in loss
Nick Gonzales went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer on Thursday in the Pirates’ loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Gonzales took Dodgers starter Walker Buehler deep in the early stages of the contest for his fourth long ball of the season. The 25-year-old infielder has been an unexpected revelation for Pittsburgh, batting .315 (28-for-89) with four homers and two steals in 24 games since arriving back in the majors last month. • Walker Buehler shaky in short outing vs. Pirates
Walker Buehler was charged with four runs (three earned) over three innings on Thursday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: Buehler was staked to a four-run lead before taking the mound at PNC Park, but it vanished by the third inning of this one as he was tagged for seven hits, including a two-run homer by Nick Gonzales. It wasn’t completely his fault as the Dodgers committed a pair of errors and weren’t able to make a couple catches on balls that ended up going for hits and drove up his pitch count in the process. He finished with three strikeouts and only issued one walk. The hard-throwing 29-year-old righty holds a lackluster 4.82 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 27/8 K/BB ratio across 28 innings (six starts). He hasn’t quite returned to fantasy ace status yet, but it’s still early considering how much time he’s missed since undergoing his second Tommy John surgery. He’ll face the Rangers on Wednesday in his next outing. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:51 pm
  • Bailey Falter lit up for five runs against Dodgers
Bailey Falter was torched for five runs over four innings on Thursday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Falter ran into a buzzsaw in the opening frame as Los Angeles’ star-studded lineup tagged him for four runs on five hits, with a three-run homer by Freddie Freeman accounting for the majority of the damage. He struck out six and also issued a pair of walks. The blowup outing snapped a streak of six consecutive starts in which he had allowed three earned runs or fewer dating back to May 5. He’ll aim for better results on Wednesday when he faces the division-rival Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:51 pm
  • Mitch Garver socks solo homer in win over A’s
Mitch Garver drove in two runs and hit a solo homer in a victory over the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Garver also drew two walks. He blooped in a single to score Cal Raleigh in the fourth, and his homer was off a center-cut fastball from T.J. McFarland that extended Seattle’s lead to 3-0. Garver has six homers on the season and has been a significant disappointment with a slash of .175/.285/.327 over the first 60-plus games of 2024. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:14 pm
  • Stanek pitches scoreless ninth to get save vs. A’s
Ryne Stanek didn’t allow a hit while picking up a save Thursday against the Athletics.

Advice: Stanek got the save chance with Andres Munoz (back) unavailable Thursday. The right-hander didn’t pick up a strikeout, but he was able to lower his ERA to 3.52 while procuring his fourth save of the season. If Munoz can’t go over the weekend against the Royals, Stanek could get more chances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:14 pm
  • Sears strikes out eight in loss to Mariners
JP Sears gave up two runs in six innings with eight strikeouts in a loss Thursday to the Mariners.

Advice: Sears was solid, but unfortunately got a goose egg in terms of run support while on the mound. He allowed a sacrifice fly to Dylan Moore with the bases loaded in the third and an RBI single to Mitch Garver an inning later. The eight strikeouts match a season high for the 28-year-old, and he’ll take a 3.93 ERA into his next start scheduled for Tuesday against San Diego. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:14 pm

  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. swats three-run homer in win
Vladimir Guerrero popped a three-run homer Thursday to help the Blue Jays to a win over the Orioles.

Advice: Vladdy Jr. gave Cade Povich a rude introduction during Povich’s MLB debut with a three-run blast in the third. The 25-year-old also drew a walk and singled. Guerrero Jr. has made loads of hard contact and certainly has been a contributor in the average category with a .295 RBI, but it’s great to see the infielder start to drive the baseball on a more consistent basis as of late. • Drives in four
Gonzales went 2-for-3 with a two-RBI double, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single during Wednesday's 10-6 win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Despite the Pirates putting up a 10-spot, Gonzales' two-RBI double in the second inning was Pittsburgh's lone extra-base hit on the day. His four RBI tied his career high, which was set May 24 against Atlanta. Before that, the 25-year-old hadn't generated more than two RBI in a game in his career. Wednesday's contest added to Gonzales' breakout campaign, as he's slashing .310/.355/.500 with 20 RBI, 12 runs and two stolen bases in 94 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:31 pm

  • Nick Gonzales knocks in four in win over Dodgers
Nick Gonzales drove in four runs with a double, a single and a sac fly Wednesday as the Pirates bested the Dodgers 10-6.

Advice: Gonzales is now tied for third on the Pirates with 20 RBI, even as he’s a distant 11th on the team with 90 plate appearances. The Pirates started him at shortstop for the second time tonight, as Oneil Cruz was sitting against a lefty. Gonzales definitely seems better off at second, but the versatility helps, especially since he probably isn’t going to keep up this pace offensively. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:00 pm
