Advice: Gurriel drove in a run in the first with an RBI single, and he clobbered a solo homer to tie the game at 3-3 in the sixth; both of those hits coming off JP Sears. The veteran outfielder has been inconsistent — something that has followed him for most of his career — but the two-hit night has his average up to .267 and his OPS up to .723 with 11 homers and 47 RBI through 303 at-bats. Takes no-decision FridayGilbert allowed two runs on four hits and struck out three without walking a batter over six innings in a no-decision versus the Twins on Friday.
Advice: Gilbert had posted back-to-back starts of eight shutout innings, so this was a small step back. It was an improvement on his previous start versus the Twins, in which he allowed a season-high eight runs over four innings in Minnesota on May 9. Since that start, Gilbert has completed at least six frames in each of his last nine outings, earning eight quality starts in that span. He's at a stellar 2.72 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 102:21 K:BB over 112.1 innings across 17 outings this season. Gilbert's lined up for a tough matchup versus the Orioles in his next projected start. Advice: Gilbert struck out three while allowing just four hits and no walks. The right-hander saw his streak of 21 scoreless innings come to an end when Carlos Correa socked a two-run homer off the right-hander to give Minnesota a 2-1 lead. Outside of that, it was another outstanding effort for the right-hander, and concludes a June that likely will see him win AL Pitcher of the Month. Advice: The veteran Royal crushed a titanic 447-foot solo homer off Triston McKenzie in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. Perez later tallied an additional RBI with a single to drive Maikel Garcia home in the third. Jeimer Candelario (knee) expected to return SundayReds’ manager David Bell told reporters on Friday that Jeimer Candelario (knee) is expected to return to the starting lineup on Sunday.
Advice: Candelario has missed each of the team’s last three games due to a knee issue and he’ll sit on Saturday as well. The team doesn’t want him to miss a full 10 days though and they’re very hopeful that he’ll be able to return to action on Sunday. Swing test pushed backJung (wrist) will have his swing test pushed back to Saturday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Advice: Jung was slated to swing a bat Friday, but he'll have that evaluation pushed back a day. He has been on the injured list since April 2 with a fractured right wrist, and his rehab program with Triple-A Round Rock was shut down due to tendon inflammation. Jung could be activated off the injured list soon if his wrist checks out OK on Saturday, though he'll likely be eased back into the action with planned off days once he does return. Rotowire.com -
Aiming for Sunday returnCandelario (hamstring) is on track to play Sunday against the Cardinals, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Advice: Candelario hasn't played since Tuesday as he tends to hamstring tendinitis. However, he's set to make his return for the series finale Sunday and will avoid a stint on the IL. In his stead, Noelvi Marte should continue to start at third base while Spencer Steer handles first base work, but it's not yet clear how the workload at the infield corners will be divided between the trio once Candelario is healthy.
