• Cedes homer in opener
Rodriguez allowed a run on one hit and struck out two over one inning in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Mariners on Opening Day.

Advice: Rodriguez, the Red Sox's lone lefty on the staff, entered with a runner on in the seventh and allowed a two-run home run to pinch hitter Dylan Moore. Fortunately for Boston, they had a three-run lead at the time, and Rodriguez earned a hold. It was unclear from spring training how manager Alex Cora planned to deploy relievers outside of setup reliever Chris Martin and closer Kenley Jansen; it appears Rodriguez will work leverage situations to shepherd leads to the back-end duo. • Blue Jays place Romano (elbow) on 15-day IL
Blue Jays placed RHP Jordan Romano on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with right elbow inflammation.

Advice: Romano has already begun throwing, but the Blue Jays are playing it safe with their star closer. He figures to return by mid-to-late April if all goes well. Yimi García is in line to handle most of the save chances to begin the year. Rotoworld 18 minutes ago

  • Earns first hold
Martin allowed one hit and struck out two over a scoreless eighth inning in Thursday's 6-4 win over Seattle on Opening Day.

Advice: Martin earned his first hold as the bridge to closer Kenley Jansen, who recorded the save. Martin threw just 2.1 innings during spring training due to a groin issue, but the right-hander was ready and available for the regular season. He'll be the primary setup reliever when available. • Blue Jays place Jansen (wrist) on 10-day IL
Blue Jays placed C Danny Jansen on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with a right wrist fracture.

Advice: Jansen suffered the injury a couple of weeks ago and could be back with the Blue Jays by the middle of April. Alejandro Kirk and Brian Serven will handle catching duties to begin the year. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

  • Jeff McNeil batting cleanup on Opening Day
Jeff McNeil is batting clean up and playing second base in Friday’s game against the Brewers.

Advice: This is where McNeil was lined up during his Spring Training debut and he’ll stay in that role to begin the regular season. The 31-year-old is 8-for-24 (.333 AVG) with a .671 OPS in the four hole during his career. McNeil likely needs to get more at bats since he only played in five spring games and did not record a hit, so having him in the cleanup spot makes sense in that aspect, but it still remains to be seen if that will be a long term position for the second baseman. Here’s the the Mets’ Opening Day lineup: Brandon Nimmo LF, Francisco Lindor SS, Pete Alonso 1B, Jeff McNeil 2B, Starling Marte RF, DJ Stewart DH, Francisco Alvarez C, Brett Bady 3B, Harrison Bader CF, José Quintana SP. • Occupying DH spot
Stewart is starting at designated hitter and batting sixth Friday against the Brewers, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The Mets have some at-bats available at DH on a short-term basis as J.D. Martinez ramps up after signing late, and Stewart looks like he'll receive the bulk of them versus righties. Stewart collected an .840 OPS with 11 home runs in a 58-game sample for the Mets last season, with 10 of those 11 homers coming off right-handers. Rotowire.com 26 minutes ago

  • Blue Jays place Manoah on 15-day IL
Blue Jays placed RHP Alek Manoah on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with right shoulder inflammation.

Advice: Manoah came down with shoulder soreness after a disastrous appearance early in the spring, and while he threw a simulated game on Wednesday, he’s still a ways off from being an option for the Blue Jays. He remains a riddle wrapped in an enigma. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago

  • Batting cleanup in opener
McNeil is starting at second base and batting cleanup in Friday's opener versus the Brewers, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Advice: McNeil is an atypical choice for the cleanup spot given that he's hit more than 10 home runs just one time in six seasons. It's a nice boost for his fantasy outlook if he sticks there, however, as Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso are batting ahead of him and should provide plenty of RBI chances. • Blue Jays place Swanson (forearm) on 15-day IL
Blue Jays placed RHP Erik Swanson on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with right forearm inflammation.

Advice: Swanson went down earlier this month and is still in the early stages of throwing again. It could be a few weeks before he’s ready for game action. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago
