• Lands two-hit win
Gil (2-1) picked up the win Thursday, allowing two hits and one walk with five strikeouts over 6.1 scoreless innings against Baltimore.

Advice: Gil rebounded from his first bad start of the season, completing six innings for the first time all season while blanking the O's. Gil has allowed three or fewer hits in all but one start this season but has allowed 20 walks in 31 innings, leading to an overall ERA of 3.19. The 26-year-old has been a pleasant surprise in the back end of the Yankees rotation and could find himself among the elite fantasy pitchers if he can reign in his walk problem. Gil's set to toe the rubber next against the Astros on Tuesday. Rotowire.com 43 minutes ago

  • Shines in second big-league start
Munoz (1-0) earned the win over Colorado on Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over six innings.

Advice: Munoz was recalled from the minors Wednesday to make the start in place of Jesus Luzardo, who is on the IL with an elbow injury. The right-handed rookie was solid in his MLB debut April 20, allowing two runs with seven punchouts over five frames, and he was even better Wednesday, holding the Rockies scoreless until the sixth inning and picking up both his first career victory and first career quality start. Munoz hasn't fared well in Triple-A this season -- he has an ugly 8.62 ERA and 9:14 K:BB over 15.2 frames -- so his success with the Marlins so far is somewhat surprising. That said, he's certainly pitched well enough to earn another start, though his opportunity to do so may depend on when Braxton Garrett (shoulder) is ready to return to the rotation and/or on whether the Marlins prefer to opt for a bullpen game at some point with the team's next off day not slated until May 9. • Clubs solo homer
Steer went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base during Wednesday's 6-2 loss to San Diego.

Advice: Steer advanced to a perfect 8-for-8 on steal attempts this season and belted his fourth home run of the campaign and his first since Apr. 6 off of Joe Musgrove in the first inning. He's cooled off since going on a tear to open the season and is batting 5-for-40 (.125) with four RBi and three runs scored during his last 11 games. Rotowire.com 49 minutes ago

  • Andy Pages slugs two-run homer in win Wednesday
Andy Pages went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer on Wednesday in an 8-0 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Pages got the scoring started for the Dodgers in the second inning, blasting a towering two-run homer off Jordan Montgomery. The 23-year-old outfielder has impressed in his major league debut, hitting .291/.317/.545 with three homers, 12 runs scored, and 10 RBI across 60 plate appearances. There were questions regarding his hit tool, but he’s posted just a 21.7 percent strikeout rate, supporting his early production. Rotoworld 51 minutes ago

  • Will Smith blasts solo homer in win over D-Backs
Will Smith went 1-for-5 with a solo homer on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Smith’s only hit of the game left the yard on Wednesday as he took Jordan Montgomery deep for a solo shot to lead off the third inning. The 29-year-old backstop is up to four homers on the year while slashing an excellent .355/.395/.555 with 18 runs scored and 24 RBI across 124 plate appearances. Rotoworld 53 minutes ago

  • Belts go-ahead grand slam
Cronenworth went 1-for-4 with a grand slam during Wednesday's 6-2 win over Cincinnati.

Advice: Cronenworth swatted his third-career grand slam in the seventh inning off reliever Fernando Cruz, breaking the 2-2 tie and giving the Padres the eventual win. The first baseman has generated a hit in six straight games with five extra-base hits and nine total RBI during that stretch. Rotowire.com 53 minutes ago

  • Kutter Crawford fans six in victory over Giants
Kutter Crawford delivered a strong performance in Wednesday night’s victory over the Giants, allowing two runs on four hits over his seven frames.

Advice: Crawford punched out six batters on the evening while surrendering a pair of free passes. He served up a solo homer to Tom Murphy leading off the third inning, then allowed an RBI bunt single to Mike Yastrzemski in the fourth inning. That was the extent of the damage against him. Crawford got 12 swings and misses on 92 pitches in the contest, six on his cutter, while registering a CSW of 29 percent. Now 2-1 on the season, he’ll carry a brilliant 1.56 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 40/13 K/BB ratio (40 1/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Braves in Atlanta on Tuesday. Rotoworld Today, 7:03 pm

  • Daulton Jefferies surrenders four runs in loss
Daulton Jefferies was saddled with his second loss of the season on Wednesday, surrendering four runs on five hits over 2 2/3 innings of work against the Red Sox.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander took over after Erik Miller worked a scoreless first inning on Wednesday, and it didn’t take him long to surrender the Giants’ early 1-0 lead. He allowed a pair of runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Rafael Devers and a run-scoring ground out by Rob Refsnyder. The Red Sox scratched out two more runs while chasing Jefferies in the fourth inning. With a 17.36 ERA and 3.43 WHIP over 4 2/3 innings in two appearances with the Giants, it seems likely that he’ll be sent right back to Triple-A Sacramento. Rotoworld Today, 6:57 pm
  • Anthony Maldonado secures first career save
Anthony Maldonado secured the first save of his big league career on Wednesday, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a three-run lead against the Rockies.

Advice: The 26-year-old hurler wasn’t fazed at all by the bright lights of the ninth inning on Wednesday, retiring Charlie Blackmon, Brendan Rodgers and Elehuris Montero in succession to end the night. He’s not going to suddenly usurp the closer’s role away from Tanner Scott, but he could be working his way into the high-leverage mix for manager Skip Schumaker. Rotoworld Today, 6:24 pm
