• Lasts just four innings in loss
Miller (3-2) took the loss against Texas on Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five batters over four-plus innings.

Advice: Miller made it through three scoreless frames before the Rangers got to him for a pair of solo homers in the fourth. The right-hander did come back out to the mound for the fifth frame, but he was pulled after issuing a leadoff walk, having thrown 83 pitches to that point. Miller's three-game quality start streak was thus snapped, as was his three-game win streak. He'll try to get back on track the next time he takes the mound, which lines up to be this weekend in Houston. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago

  • Falls short of qualifying for win
Gray allowed one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Seattle on Wednesday.

Advice: Gray pitched well as a starter four days after making a surprise 1.2-inning relief appearance against Atlanta, but he was pulled with two runners on base and two outs in the fifth after having thrown 92 pitches. Texas was up 2-1 at the time, so the ill-timed hook cost him a chance at earning his first win of 2024. Nonetheless, this was another positive outing for the right-hander, who has now given up one or fewer earned runs in each of his past five trips to the mound (including the relief outing). • Knocked around by Cubs
Arrighetti (0-3) took the loss against the Cubs on Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits and and two walks while striking out seven batters over 3.2 innings.

Advice: The seven punchouts were nice, and Arrighetti racked up 13 whiffs among his 90 pitches, but Chicago's bats were productive when they made contact. All four of the runs against the right-hander came in the first inning, with the biggest blow being a three-run homer off the bat of Dansby Swanson. Arrighetti has lost all three of his outings this season while posting a 10.97 ERA and 2.34 WHIP, so it's fair to wonder if he'll get another chance to start anytime soon, especially with Houston having two days off over the next week. • Nabs second straight victory
Taillon (2-0) earned the win over Houston on Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Taillon yielded a fair amount of baserunners, but he was unscored upon outside of a two-run third inning. The right-hander notched just five whiffs among his 89 pitches, though that didn't prevent him from picking up his second straight victory to begin the campaign. Taillon got a late start to the season after opening on the injured list due to a back injury, but he already seems to be settled in as a key piece of Chicago's rotation. • Surrenders first run at Triple-A
Skenes allowed one earned run on five hits and one walk while striking out seven across 4.1 innings with Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.

Advice: Skenes faced adversity at the highest level of the minors for the first time, as he surrendered his first run after 14.1 innings of work. There were still plenty of positives to take away from the outing, however, the most notable of which is that he ramped up to 71 pitches. The Pirates have refused to give any indication of when Skenes will make his big-league debut, but there is a current opening in the rotation with Marco Gonzales (elbow) sidelined. • Throws bullpen session
Urquidy (forearm) threw a bullpen session Monday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The session marked Urquidy's first time pitching from a mound since mid-March. The team is hoping to get him back in May, though he'll likely need a fairly lengthy ramp-up process. Rotowire.com Today, 10:13 pm

  • Spencer Turnbull strong for five in no-decision
Spencer Turnbull turned in five innings of one-run ball and struck out eight Wednesday against the Reds.

Advice: It was another sterling effort from Turnbull, but since Taijuan Walker is back, it might have been his final start for a while. The Phillies just aren’t prepared to make a change there, even though Turnbull has a 1.33 ERA in five starts. Rotoworld Today, 9:57 pm
  • Grabs fourth save
Payamps recorded the save in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Pirates, striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

Advice: The Pirates made things interesting in the ninth, getting the tying and go-ahead runs on base on a pair of Milwaukee errors. However, Payamps got Jared Triolo to fly out before striking out Andrew McCutchen to seal the 3-2 victory, notching his fourth save of the year. The 30-year-old Payamps has three saves in his last four outings as he lowered his ERA to 3.72 with a 0.62 WHIP and 9:1 K:BB through 9.2 innings. After Abner Uribe struggled earlier in the year, Payamps figures to be the Brewers' primary ninth-inning option with Devin Williams (back) expected to be sidelined until the All-Star break. • Goes five innings in no-decision
Lodolo didn't factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out four.

Advice: After allowing just one run through his first two starts of the year, Lodolo struggled a bit Monday though he'd ultimately put together a respectable effort against a potent Philadelphia offense as the Reds rallied for a comeback win. Overall, the 26-year-old southpaw is 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB across 17 innings. Lodolo's currently slated to face the Padres on the road in his next outing.
