  • Orelvis Martinez stays hot with solo homer at AAA
    Blue Jays INF prospect Orelvis Martinez went 2-for-5 with a solo homer on Thursday for Triple-A Buffalo.

    Advice: Martinez is off to a hot start so far, batting .305 (18-for-59) with three homers and 11 RBI through 15 games. Perhaps the most impressive element of his early-season performance is that he’s cut back on the strikeouts, fanning just 13 times in 64 plate appearances.     Hernaiz was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: Hernaiz had started seven of the last eight games for the Athletics, though he went just 3-for-20 with six strikeouts in that span. It's very likely that he'll be back in the majors at some point in 2024, though there's no indication of how long the team plans to keep him in the minors.   • A’s option struggling Darell Hernaiz to Triple-A
    Athletics optioned SS Darell Hernaiz to Triple-A Las Vegas.

    Advice: There isn’t exactly a starting spot for Hernaiz in the majors with Nick Allen finally back to full strength, so he’s headed back to the minors to continue playing everyday ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Guardians.     Baez went 2-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 9-7 loss to the Rangers.

    Advice: The doubles were Baez's first of the season, and he's still sitting on just one home run across 17 games. The shortstop isn't hitting a ton of singles either, as he's batting just .172. While he's shown an ability in the past to heat up quickly, his struggles the past few seasons don't instill a ton of confidence.     Advice: Alexander will take a seat for the series opener as the Giants bring ace right-hander Logan Webb to the hill. While the rookie still looks to be the Diamondbacks' preferred option at shortstop while Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is on the shelf, Alexander might have a shorter leash than anticipated while he's experienced some early hiccups defensively.     Javier Báez doubled twice while going 2-for-4 with an RBI in a loss Thursday to the Rangers.

    Advice: Báez doubled in a run in the second inning to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead. The 31-year-old veteran got off to a dreadful start, but he’s picked up hits in four of his last five games while seeing his average raise from .125 to .174 over the last seven contests.   • Amed Rosario triples in victory over Angels
    Amed Rosario went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI against the Angels on Thursday.

    Advice: Rosario plated Richie Palacios with his triple in the first inning off Griffin Canning to give Tampa Bay a 1-0 cushion. The three-bagger comes a day after Rosario blasted a two-run homer, and the former top prospect has been swinging the bat well to begin the 2024 campaign as seen in his .339 average and .532 slugging mark.
