      Advice: Volpe made the most of his fifth-inning single, as he proceeded to steal both second and third base before coming home on an Alex Verdugo double. The second-year shortstop is up to 15 thefts (on 18 attempts) this season, which is tied for 13th in the league. Volpe's power is down in comparison to his rookie campaign, but he's reduced his strikeout rate from 27.8 percent to 21.3 percent, which has helped produce a much-improved .271/.329/.414 slash line.       Advice: Strider is already set to miss the remainder of the 2024 campaign after undergoing elbow surgery in April, so the move to the 60-day IL doesn't impact his outlook.       Gausman (5-5) took the loss Friday as the Blue Jays fell 3-1 to the Guardians, giving up three runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

      Advice: The right-hander's velocity was erratic all night -- his very first fastball to Steven Kwan to lead off the game clocked at only 89 mph, but one batter later he popped 94.4 mph against Andres Gimenez. Without consistent stuff, Gausman wound up getting tagged for five extra-base hits, including a Will Brennan solo shot in the fourth inning. He was able to minimize the damage though, and Gausman's given up three runs or less in five of his last six starts, producing a 3.26 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 38:6 K:BB through 38.2 innings over that stretch.       Advice: Gausman’s velocity was well down for a second straight start tonight, even though he was working with an extra day off. It’s a definite cause for concern at this point; there’d be much more reason to expect Gausman to bounce back while throwing 94 mph than there is while he’s throwing 92.
