    • Marcus Semien plates three runs to lead Rangers
Marcus Semien delivered a bases-clearing three-run double in the sixth inning on Friday night, propelling the Rangers to a 6-2 victory over the visiting Royals.

Advice: The Rangers had just taken the lead as Jonah Heim plated a run with a fielder’s choice. Semien then followed by smacking a two-out, three-run double off of Sammy Long to break the game wide open. It was the only hit of the game in four at-bats for Semien, but it proved to be the difference-maker. On the season, the 33-year-old infielder is now hitting .252/.319/.419 with 11 homers, 43 RBI and three stolen bases. Rotoworld Friday, 7:50 pm

    • Nathan Eovaldi fans six in victory over the Royals
Nathan Eovaldi snagged his fourth victory of the season on Friday night, limiting the Royals to two runs on four hits over his six innings of work.

Advice: The 34-year-old right-hander punched out six batters on the night while allowing two walks. He served up a solo homer to Kyle Isbel in the third inning and an RBI single to Garrett Hampson in the fifth but was able to limit the damage otherwise. Eovaldi got 14 swings and misses on 98 pitches on the evening, posting a CSW of 27 percent. He’ll see if he can keep the good times rolling as he carries a 3.14 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 70/25 K/BB ratio (66 innings) into Wednesday’s battle against the Brewers in Milwaukee. • Strikes out eight in win
Flaherty (5-4) earned the win against the White Sox on Friday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Flaherty threw four scoreless innings before surrendering a solo home run to Tommy Pham in the fifth. He then allowed a hit and a walk with two outs in the sixth before being pulled just shy of a quality start at 98 pitches. The home run was the first earned run Flaherty has allowed since May 23, and the pitch count was encouraging considering he was limited to 73 pitches in his last outing following a back injury. On the season, he owns a 2.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 108:13 K:BB over 83.1 innings and tentatively lines up to face the Phillies next week. Rotowire.com Friday, 6:30 pm
    • Jack Flaherty strikes out eight in win on Friday
Jack Flaherty delivered an excellent performance in Friday night’s victory over the White Sox, racking up eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings of one-run baseball.

Advice: The right-hander scattered five hits on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. The lone tally against him came on a solo homer off the bat of Tommy Pham in the fifth inning. Aside from that though, he was in complete control. Flaherty got 14 swings and misses on 98 pitches in the ballgame — seven of those on his slider — while posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. Now 5-4 on the season, the increasingly popular trade candidate will carry a sublime 2.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 108/13 K/BB ratio (83 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s battle against the Phillies. • Zac Gallen to throw another sim game on Monday
Zac Gallen (hamstring) is expected to throw around 70 pitches in another simulated game on Monday.

Advice: Assuming all goes well with that session, the expectation is that he’ll rejoin the Diamondbacks’ rotation next weekend against the Athletics. The 28-year-old hurler had posted a 3.12 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 60/15 K/BB ratio over 57 2/3 innings through his first 11 starts. Rotoworld Friday, 3:03 pm

    • Max Scherzer not starting for Rangers on Saturday
Rangers’ manager Bruce Bochy announced Friday that Jon Gray will start on Saturday against the Royals.

Advice: There had been speculation that Max Scherzer would make his 2024 season debut on Saturday, but it’ll be Gray getting the ball instead. Bochy was quick to point out that Scherzer has not had any sort of setback and could still return to start Sunday’s series finale against the Royals. Stay tuned. Rotoworld Friday, 2:33 pm
    • Return pushed back
Scherzer (back/thumb) won't start Saturday's game against the Royals, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Scherzer was initially expected to make his 2024 debut Saturday after undergoing offseason back surgery and more recently dealing with thumb and forearm injuries. Instead, Bruce Bochy will hand the ball to Jon Gray on Saturday, with starters for Sunday's series finale against Kansas City and Monday's series opener against Milwaukee still to be determined. Scherzer and Dane Dunning figure to fill the two starting slots, though it's unclear in what order. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:17 pm
    • David Hamilton not in Red Sox’ lineup on Friday
David Hamilton is not in the Red Sox’ starting lineup for Friday night’s soiree against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Advice: The 26-year-old speedster has been battling discomfort in his left side, so it’s possible that they’re just easing him back into action. Or if could be that the Red Sox are facing a left-handed starter in Andrew Abbott. Either way, it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see him pinch-run and still swipe a bag or two on Friday night before all is said and done. Romy Gonzalez will start in his place at shortstop and bat second for the Red Sox on Friday evening. Rotoworld Friday, 1:14 pm

    • On bench against left-hander
Hamilton is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Cincinnati.

Advice: The left-handed hitting Hamilton has been an everyday guy lately for the Red Sox, but he'll begin this one on the bench as the Reds send southpaw Andrew Abbott to the bump. Hamilton has also dealt with a side issue this week, so the team could be exercising caution here. Romy Gonzalez will handle shortstop Friday. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:33 pm
