    • Snaps out of slump
Robert went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base Monday against the Royals.

Advice: Robert had been quiet at the plate across his last six games, recording only one hit in 23 at-bats. However, his bat came alive Monday, when he tallied his eighth extra-base hit and 11th stolen base of the month. Though he's hitting only .212 for the season, Robert has hit a more palatable .241 across 87 at-bats in July. Rotowire.com Today, 8:12 am
    • Hit hard in non-save situation
Finnegan (2-5) took the loss Monday against the Diamondbacks, coughing up five runs on five hits while recording only one out.

Advice: The Nationals' closer got the call to protect a four-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, but instead Finnegan served up a leadoff triple to Alek Thomas and a two-run homer to Ketel Marte before pinch hitter Corbin Carroll walked it off with a two-run shot of his own. Finnegan has served up three homers in his last two appearances and nine in 44 innings on the season, which could give pause to trade-deadline shoppers looking for bullpen help, but his 3.48 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 28 saves in 32 chances will still likely fetch a strong return if the Nats elect to move him. • Moves to leadoff
Smith started at third base, batted leadoff and went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Monday's 6-3 win over St. Louis.

Advice: Smith was in the field at third base even though Josh Jung was activated off the 60-day injured list Monday. While that was surprising, so was Smith's slotting in the leadoff spot while Marcus Semien was dropped to third in the order. Texas manager Bruce Bochy told Kennedi Landry of MLB.com that the tweaked batting order was in relation to Jung's return. It's unclear if more tweaks are expected once Jung is in the starting lineup, or if the changes are for both right-handed and left-handed starters. Rotowire.com Today, 5:02 am

    • Gets lots of run support in victory
Gil (11-5) earned the win over Philadelphia on Monday, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings.

Advice: Gil was given a 3-0 lead after two frames, and despite allowing a run in each of the third and fourth innings, he cruised to his 11th victory of the season as the Yankees offense piled on 14 runs by the end of the contest. The right-hander tallied 14 swinging strikes en route to eight punchouts and gave up just one extra-base hit (a solo homer). Gil's three-game streak of allowing just one run came to an end, but he did pick up his second with over his past three starts. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:42 pm

    • Reaches 30 homers
Santander went 3-for-8 with a two-run home run, an additional run and a walk across both games of a doubleheader split against Toronto on Monday.

Advice: Santander was particularly productive in the first game, collecting two hits, including a two-run homer. The long ball was his 30th of the campaign, elevating the outfielder to his second career 30-homer season. It seems inevitable that Santander will surpass his career-best mark of 33 home runs by the end of the campaign, and with 70 RBI, he has a good chance of beating his career high of 95 runs batted in as well. • Kyle Finnegan tagged for five runs in loss
Kyle Finnegan took his fifth loss after giving up five runs in the ninth Monday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Yikes. But, hey, it wasn’t a blown save since he entered with a four-run lead. Finnegan, who is very much available in trade talks, saw his ERA jump from 2.47 to 3.48 tonight. He gave up five hits, including two homers, to the six batters he faced. With peripherals considerably worse than his ERA, he might not net the kind of return the Nationals were hoping for at the deadline. On the plus side, this might make him a better bet for fantasy purposes, since there’s a good chance he’d be a setup man if he is sent to a contender. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:48 pm
    • Snags 19th save
Yates earned the save in Monday's 6-3 victory over the Cardinals, pitching a clean inning with one strikeout.

Advice: The veteran reliever faced the 5-6-7 hitters in the Cardinals lineup, retiring them in order on 19 pitches to secure his 81st career save. Yates has been especially stingy in July so far, firing a 1.80 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB across 10 innings. The Texas All-Star has enjoyed a renaissance season, now sporting a 1.17 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 53:18 K:BB over 38.1 innings while going a perfect 19-for-19 in save chances. • Kirby Yates locks down save against Cardinals
Kirby Yates hurled a scoreless ninth to get a save against the Cardinals on Monday.

Advice: Yates is now up to 19 saves on the season. The right-hander threw 14-of-19 pitches for strikes, and his ERA is a glowing 1.17 for the 2024 season. Yates could be moved before the deadline, and it seems likely that the team acquiring him would keep him in the closing role. Not a lock, however, so keep it in mind. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:17 pm
    • Robert Jr. breaks out of slump with three hits
Luis Robert Jr. went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored with a stolen base in a loss to the Royals on Monday.

Advice: Robert Jr. had been struggling mightily as of late, but this was a nice reminder of just how talented the 26-year-old is. The steal is the 14th of the season for the outfielder, and that number is more impressive when you keep in mind he’s only played 54 games, and that he hasn’t been caught while attempting a theft yet. The question now is if the White Sox — who have lost 15 straight games and have guaranteed a losing record despite it being only July 29 — will move Robert Jr. before the deadline Tuesday.
