    • MJ Melendez hits grand slam in win over Dodgers
      MJ Melendez hit a grand slam to help the Royals to a 7-2 win over the Dodgers on Saturday.

      Advice: WIth the bases full, Melendez took Blake Treinen deep to give the Royals a 5-2 lead. The 25-year-old outfielder has been a significant disappointment in 2024, but he’s at least starting to show some pop with three homers in the month of June; all of them coming in the last eight games.     • Lugo gets 10th win after six strong vs. Dodgers
      Seth Lugo gave up two runs in six innings to get a win against the Dodgers on Saturday.

      Advice: The victory is already the 10th of the season for Lugo. The right-hander allowed a two-run single to Gavin Lux in the fourth, but outside of that he handled the Dodgers lineup without many issues. He scattered six hits allowed while walking just one and striking out four. Lugo has been excellent in 2024, and it’d be a surprise if he wasn’t an All-Star at this point.     • Randy Arozarena homers in loss to Braves
      Randy Arozarena went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Braves on Saturday.

      Advice: Arozarena was hitless until a 403-foot big fly in the ninth inning. It was his ninth of the season and just his 21st RBI all year. The 29-year-old also struck out once and is hitting just .175/.284/.325 on the year. While the overall numbers are bad, there are no glaring red flags to point to. He’s swinging and missing slightly more and is perhaps being a bit too passive this season, potentially leading to worse overall contact quality.     • Jackson Merrill power binge continues in loss
      Jackson Merrill went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to the Mets on Saturday.

      Advice: Merrill launched a 411-foot blast against Jose Quintana for his seventh home run of the season. The rookie now has four home runs in his last three games. All of them have also been solo shots. Merrill was billed as primarily a batting average asset who wouldn’t provide much power, so it’s nice to see him starting to show some pop.       Rodriguez (8-2) earned the win against the Phillies on Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts over seven innings.

      Advice: Rodriguez allowed runs on an RBI double by Alec Bohm in the first inning and a solo home run by Edmundo Sosa in the second but rebounded with five scoreless frames to earn his third consecutive win. This was the first time Rodriguez completed seven innings in a start this season, but he has pitched into the sixth in all but two of his 12 starts so far. On the year, Rodriguez now owns a 3.20 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 77:23 K:BB and tentatively lines up to start next week against the Yankees. Rotowire.com Today, 5:51 pm

      Darvish (groin) threw a bullpen session Friday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

      Advice: Darvish simulated three innings in the session, tossing 60 pitches. The veteran hurler said before throwing the bullpen that he expects the session to be sufficient ramp-up to allow him to return to the Padres' rotation without a rehab assignment.       Grayson Rodriguez allowed two runs with six strikeouts over seven innings in a win over the Phillies on Saturday.

      Advice: Rodriguez got two quick outs to start the game, but gave up a single and a double that would bring a run in to score for the Phillies in the first. Edmundo Sosa then led off the second inning with a solo homer. Rodriguez settled in to retire ten consecutive batters until working around a single in a scoreless fifth inning. He got into trouble in the sixth with runners on second and third with two outs. Rodriguez got Sosa to strike out swinging to escape the jam, his sixth strikeout on the day. He’d toss one more scoreless frame to complete seven innings for the win. The 24-year-old right-hander will take a 3.20 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and a 77/23 K/BB ratio across 70 1/3 innings into a start against the Astros in Houston on Friday. Rotoworld Today, 3:36 pm

      Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters Trea Turner (hamstring) could potentially return on Sunday.

      Advice: Turner continued running at full-speed on Saturday and could potentially be activated for Sunday’s series finale against the Orioles. It’s possible they’ll elect to wait until Monday’s series opener against the Padres, but it certainly appears that the 30-year-old superstar shortstop isn’t far off from returning for Philadelphia.       Advice: The 21-year-old went yard for the third time in the last two games, accounting for all of the Padres' offense on the night with a fifth-inning shot off Sean Manaea. Merrill seems to have flipped a switch in June -- over the last nine games, he's batting .353 (12-for-34) with four doubles, three homers, two steals, five RBI, six runs and an impressive 8.3 percent strikeout rate.
