      Edwin Díaz pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Mets to earn the save on Friday against the Padres. He struck out two and stranded a runner on third base.

      Advice: Díaz and the Mets really needed this one. You could hear a pin drop in Citi Field when Jurickson Profar led off the inning with a single, but Díaz was able to work around it for his first save in 39 days.       Advice: Iglesias came into the game with two runners on base and two outs. He quickly finished the 7-3 win with just three pitches.       Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) will undergo a follow-up MRI exam on Saturday.

      Advice: Rodriguez has increased his throwing distance to 105 feet in recent days and if all goes well with Saturday’s check-up, he could be cleared to throw off of a mound for the first time. The Diamondbacks are taking every possible precaution here, but they’re hopeful that Rodriguez will be able to join the rotation at some point around the All-Star break.       Manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Miller (shoulder) will return from the injured list and start Wednesday against the Rockies, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

      Advice: Right shoulder inflammation has kept Miller on the injured list since mid-April, but he began a rehab assignment May 26. While he's put up a 7.80 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 10:8 K:BB through 15 innings, he was able to touch 99 mph with his fastball during his last outing. Miller will be welcomed back to the big leagues by a Rockies offense that currently ranks 17th in the majors with a .687 OPS, though we'll at least note this will be a road game in Colorado.     • Bobby Miller to rejoin Dodgers’ rotation Wednesday
      Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday that Bobby Miller (shoulder) will rejoin the team’s starting rotation on Wednesday against the Rockies in Colorado.

      Advice: While the results weren’t there in his final rehab start on Thursday, Miller came through the game healthy and that’s all the really matters at this point. He has made just three starts at the big league level this season, posting a 5.40 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and an 18/6 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings of work. It’s unclear if the Dodgers will switch to a six-man rotation, or if James Paxton or Gavin Stone will get bumped from the rotation to accommodate Miller’s return. Rotoworld Friday, 3:42 pm

      Astros released 1B Jose Abreu.

      Advice: The 37-year-old from Cuba has accomplished a lot in his career. Abreu is a three-time All-Star, three-time Silver Slugger award winner, won the Rookie of the Year award in 2014 and Most Valuable Player award in 2020. It’s undeniable that his production has fallen off a cliff over the last two seasons, though. Abreu hit .237/.296/.383 in 141 games last year and his average fell to .124 in 113 at-bats this year. He’s in the second year of a three-year $58.3 million deal, but the Astros recognized the sunk cost and will be on the hook for the remainder of the money still owed to Abreu.     • Cut loose by Astros
      The Astros released Abreu on Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Abreu was in the second year of a three-year, $58.5 million contract with Houston but will hit the open market after a dreadful start to the 2024 season. In 120 big-league plate appearances, Abreu posted a .362 OPS with a career-worst 23.3 percent K rate and a 3.4 percent walk rate. Amid his struggles, Abreu spent nearly a month in the minors, beginning at the Astros' FCL affiliate before being brought up to Triple-A Sugar Land, where he went hitless in seven at-bats. Although the 37-year-old didn't show much to indicate improvements are coming, he's still just three years removed from a 30-homer season and is a former AL MVP, making him an intriguing reclamation project as a free agent.       Diaz (2-1) struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Thursday to pick up the win over the Marlins.

      Advice: The right-hander looked good in his first appearance since May 25, topping out at 99.6 mph with his fastball. Diaz had been on the IL with a shoulder impingement before being activated Thursday, but he hadn't been his usual dominant self even before getting shut down -- so far in 2024 he has a 16.7 percent whiff rate, one of the lowest marks of his career and a massive drop from the 25.2 percent rate he delivered in 2022.
