Counsell: Nico Hoerner has small fracture in handCubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Saturday that Nico Hoerner has been diagnosed with a small fracture in his right hand.
Advice: Counsell added that team doctors are comfortable with Hoerner returning to action if the pain and swelling subside in his right hand. It sounds like the club is going to take a few additional days before making a decision on whether he’ll require a trip to the injured list. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. Diagnosed with hand fractureManager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Hoerner has a small fracture in his hand, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Advice: Counsell noted that the team's doctors are comfortable with Hoerner playing through his injury once the swelling subsides, and the Cubs will wait a few days to see how his hand recovers before deciding on a potential IL move. Bell: CES (wrist) to resume swinging this monthReds manager David Bell told reporters Saturday that Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) is expected to start swinging a bat in a few weeks.
Advice: Bell added that Encarnacion-Strand will ramp-up his strength training next week and should be cleared to begin hitting again at some point in June. The 28-year-old right-hander lowered his ERA to 3.16 on the season with a 1.24 WHIP and 74:22 K:BB across 13 starts (79.2 innings). Advice: Miller posted his worst start of the season, allowing nine baserunners and seven runs, each marking season worsts. The Seattle right-hander was cruising through three scoreless innings before allowing four runs in the fourth, rounded out by a three-run blast from MJ Melendez. The outing pushed Miller's WHIP up to 1.02 to go with a 3.81 ERA over 75.2 innings. The 25-year-old will look to bounce back in his next scheduled start against the White Sox at home. Keeps slugging FridayDiaz went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 7-1 win over the Angels.
Advice: Diaz opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning and added a two-run homer in the seventh. He's gone yard in four straight contests, an impressive run of power after he went 39 games without a homer prior to this surge. The catcher is at a .258/.285/.416 slash line, seven long balls, 32 RBI, 22 runs scored and 10 doubles over 56 contests. With Kyle Tucker (lower leg) going on the injured list Friday, Yordan Alvarez has seen more time in the field, giving the Astros the option of moving Diaz to designated hitter rather than having him at catcher full-time in the short term.
