  • Blue Jays add Rowdy Tellez to 40-man roster
Blue Jays purchased the contract of 1B Rowdy Tellez from Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Tellez, 22, is coming off a terrible 2017 season that saw him hit only .222/.295/.333 in his first taste of Triple-A. However, the Blue Jays still think well enough of him to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:15 pm
  • Jake Bauers added to 40-man roster
Rays purchased the contract of 1B/OF Jake Bauers from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Bauers, 22, batted .263/.368/.412 with 13 homers and 20 steals for Durham last season. He could be ready to take over as the Rays' starting first baseman at some point next season. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 5:49 pm
  • Marlins acquire Garrett Cooper from Yankees
Marlins acquired 1B Garrett Cooper and LHP Caleb Smith from the Yankees for RHP Michael King and international signing bonus pool money.

Advice: Cooper hit .326/.333/.488 in his brief time with the Yankees after they picked him up from the Brewers in a trade. The soon-to-be 27-year-old batted .359/.423/.634 between Double- and Triple-A in 2017 and looks like a potential platoon partner for Justin Bour in 2018. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 4:32 pm
  • Indians claim Rob Refsnyder off waivers
Indians claimed INF/OF Rob Refsnyder off waivers from the Blue Jays.

Advice: It's his third team since the midseason trade deadline, as the Blue Jays acquired him via trade from the Yankees in July. Refsnyder has hit only .233/.306/.311 during his chances in the majors, but he's hit well in the minors and is versatile. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:05 pm

  • Casey Gillaspie added to 40-man roster
White Sox purchased the contract of 1B Casey Gillaspie from Triple-A Charlotte.

Advice: A first-round pick in the 2014 Draft, Gillaspie was acquired from the Rays in July. He's now protected from the Rule 5 Draft. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:22 pm
  • Reds re-sign Patrick Kivlehan to minors deal
Reds re-signed INF/OF Patrick Kivlehan to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: Kivlehan elected free agency last week, but has decided to re-up with the Reds. He his .208/.304/.399 with nine homers, 26 RBI and a 61/22 K/BB ratio over 204 plate appearances at the big league level last season. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 7:34 am

  • NYY interested in Rangers' Jurickson Profar
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees are interested in acquiring Jurickson Profar from the Rangers.

Advice: There is no obvious short-term or even long-term spot for Profar in the Bronx, but Sherman says the Yankees "would be willing to take on a single player with upside and pedigree in exchange for multiple players who are crowding their deep 40-man roster." Profar, once considered the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball, has batted just .229/.309/.329 in 206 career games at the major league level. A change of scenery would probably do him some good. There is also said to be interest from the Reds and Padres. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:45 am

  • Profar doesn't have set role for 2018
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Tuesday that Jurickson Profar doesn't have a set role for 2018.

Advice: As of now, Profar is expected to be on the Opening Day roster next year, but that's only because he's out of options. The 24-year-old appeared in just 22 games in the majors this season and batted .287/.383/.428 with seven homers and 45 RBI over 87 games in Triple-A. The Rangers decided against a call-up in September, which ensures that he will remain under team control through 2020 as opposed to 2019. Profar has expressed his frustration with the situation, but barring a trade, the former top prospect figures to be a bench player for Texas going into next season. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 5:56 pm

  • Red Sox, Angels, M's interested in Duda
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Red Sox, Angels, and Mariners have checked in on free agent first baseman Lucas Duda.

Advice: Duda struggled down the stretch with the Rays, but he still tied his career-high with 30 homers while putting up an .818 OPS. He's better off sitting against lefties, but he can still be a valuable bat to have around. He likely won't break the bank wherever he lands. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 1:41 pm

  • Smith not a lock to begin 2018 with 1B job
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson indicated Monday that Dominic Smith isn't a lock to go into spring training as the starting first baseman.

Advice: "He didn't win it in September, let's put it that way," Alderson responded when asked if Smith's first showing in the majors was enough to secure the starting first base job. Smith slugged nine homers in 49 games after his call-up, but he batted just .198 with a .262 on-base percentage and also had some bad moments defensively. At minimum, the Mets figure to bring in some insurance for first base over the winter. Rotoworld.com Monday, 4:25 pm
  • Red Sox, Angels considering Logan Morrison
Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports that the Red Sox are meeting with Logan Morrison's reps on Monday.

Advice: The Angels are also showing interest in LoMo, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. Morrison, 30, had a career year in 2017, playing in a career-high 149 games while batting .246/.353/.516 with 38 home runs and 85 RBI. He will come cheaper than a lot of the other free agent bats. • Patrick Kivlehan elects to become free agent
Patrick Kivlehan has elected free agency.

Advice: The 27-year-old outfielder hit .208/.304/.399 with nine homers, 26 RBI and a 61/22 K/BB ratio in 204 plate appearances with the Reds this season. He'll look for employment elsewhere and will likely have to settle for a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Rotoworld.com Nov 11, 5:39 am
