  • Tyler Austin batting seventh for Yankees
Tyler Austin is starting at first base and batting seventh for the Yankees on Saturday against Austin Bibens-Dirkx and the Rangers.

Advice: Austin was recalled on Saturday to replace the struggling Chris Carter who was designated for assignment. The 25-year-old hit .241/.300/.458 with five homers and 12 RBI in 90 plate appearances for the Yankees in 2016. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:17 am
  • Yankees recall Tyler Austin from Triple-A
Yankees recalled 1B Tyler Austin from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: He's taking the place of Chris Carter on the active roster, who was designated for assignment after Friday's game. Austin wsa hitting .300/.366/.560 with four homers and 21 RBI in 27 games at Triple-A. He should see regular playing time at first base and is worth a look as a corner infield option in deeper mixed leagues. Rotoworld.com Today, 6:02 am
  • Danny Valencia goes 4-for-5 in rout
Danny Valencia went 4-for-5 with two RBI versus the Astros on Friday.

Advice: Valencia's hot streak had fizzled of late, but he's reached base eight times the last two days, raising his OBP from .315 to .333. The Mariners should still be thinking about a first-base upgrade prior to the trade deadline. Valencia isn't bad, but he could be more useful as a part-timer. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:50 pm

  • Lucas Duda homers, doubles twice
Lucas Duda homered and doubled twice Friday as the Mets crushed the Giants 11-4.

Advice: The second double would have been a homer pretty much anywhere other than San Francisco, and it even drew a replay review there, but it was ruled to have bounced off the top of the wall in right-center. Duda now has 13 homers and 13 doubles, which suggests that he should have more than 27 RBI and 20 runs scored this season. However, 10 of those homers have been solo shots, and the Mets haven't had much hitting behind him in the order this year. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:46 pm
  • Gallo hitless in loss to Yankees
Joey Gallo finished 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Friday’s extra-inning loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Gallo had a big day at the plate on Wednesday, but he’s 0-for-8 with six strikeouts since. The 23-year-old slugger is hitting just .155 (9-for-58) with three home runs and 24 strikeouts this month. He still leads the Rangers with 19 home runs, but his batting average is down to .194 on the year. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:37 pm

  • Yankees to promote 1B Austin
The Yankees announced they they'll call up Tyler Austin prior to Saturday's game.

Advice: Austin, who missed the first six weeks with a fractured foot, was hitting .300/.366/.560 with four homers (including three in the last four games) and 32 strikeouts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He doesn't project as a long-term regular, but then the Yankees have gotten better-than-expected results from their position prospects recently. He'll be the regular first baseman for now, so those in deeper mixed leagues could give him a shot. The team might still get Greg Bird back after the break, and it's also possible that first base will be addressed in a trade next month. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:30 pm
  • Yankees DFA Carter, turn to Austin at 1B
Yankees designated first baseman Chris Carter for assignment.

Advice: So much for the 2016 NL home run champ. Carter hit just .204 with eight homers and 23 RBI in 167 at-bats, but the Yankees probably would have stuck with him longer if not for his poor defense at first base. Now they'll go to Tyler Austin, a player with a similar profile but one who has been red-hot in the minors. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:26 pm

  • Jaso slugs go-ahead homer vs. Cardinals
John Jaso slugged a go-ahead solo homer in the ninth inning to lead the Pirates to a 4-3 victory over the Cardinals.

Advice: After entering the game as a defensive replacement in the eighth inning, Jaso took Seung-Hwan Oh deep with two outs in the top of the ninth. Felipe Rivero tossed a scoreless bottom of the frame to finish off the wild win. Jaso is now hitting .234/.319/.421 with five homers and 19 RBI through 62 games. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:29 pm
  • Martinez slugs two-run homer vs. Pirates
Jose Martinez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Friday’s loss to the Pirates.

Advice: His second-inning blast briefly gave the Cardinals the lead. The 28-year-old Martinez has swung the bat well when called upon this season, batting .280 with five home runs and an .821 OPS through 38 games. However, he will be pressed for playing time once Dexter Fowler (quad) feels back to normal. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:27 pm
  • Trey Mancini plates two in loss to Rays
Trey Mancini went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI as the Orioles were crushed by the Rays on Friday night.

Advice: Mancini got the O's on the board with a run-scoring single in the second inning, then capped off their scoring with an RBI double in the sixth. He has been a tremendous bright spot in the middle of the O's lineup this season, slashing a robust .317/.358/.564 with 12 homers and 40 RBI. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:39 pm
  • Howie Kendrick scratched with tight hamstring
Howie Kendrick was scratched from the Phillies' lineup on Friday due to hamstring tightness.

  • Mauer picks up pair of singles in loss to CWS
Joe Mauer went 2-for-3 in Thursday's loss to the White Sox.

Advice: The Twins were unable to come up with an extra-base hit in the 9-0 loss. With his two singles, Mauer is now hitting .281/.352/.395 with four homers and 29 RBI in 61 games this season. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:02 pm

Yankees optioned INF/OF Rob Refsnyder to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

  • Hoskins reaches four times
Phillies prospect Rhys Hoskins went 2-for-4 on Wednesday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Advice: On top of the two hits, Hoskins also drew two walks. It's a good example of how he doesn't need the long ball to be a quality fantasy prospect. Sure there will be strikeouts, but he's going to get on via walk and hit for a high enough average for that to not kill his value. It's only a matter of time before he gets a chance to hit for the Phillies. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 11:00 am

  • Austin homers for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
Yankees prospect Tyler Austin homered on Wednesday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: It's the third homer of the season for Austin. Since being activated from the 60-day disabled list, he's hit .305/.378/.552. Keep in mind that at one point this was one of the best bats in the New York system, and it looks like he's as healthy as he's been in quite some time. The Yankees could give him a shot in the next couple of weeks if he keeps swinging the stick like this, and the talent suggests that's possible. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 10:26 am
  • Three hits for Gillaspie
Rays prospect Casey Gillaspie went 3-for-4 with a double on Wednesday for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Gillaspie also scored three times, and knocked in a run for the Bulls. It's been a very disappointing season for Gillaspie, as he's struggled to show the ability to get on base that he showed in his previous years in the Rays organization. Still, it's not a question of talent, and it shouldn't surprise anyone if he has a much better second half in the International League. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 10:15 am

  • Gallo goes 3-for-4 with a bomb vs Blue Jays
Joey Gallo went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored in a loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Advice: Gallo is known for his prodigious power but his home run today was actually of the inside-the-park variety. He hit the ball the opposite way and the left fielder crashed into the wall trying to catch it. Gallo circled the bases and glided home without a throw before the shortstop could run out and retrieve the ball. He also doubled twice in the ballgame. The multi-hit night enabled him to boost his batting average above the Mendoza line. He is batting .201/.298/.522 with 19 home runs and 39 RBI on the season. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 10:12 pm

  • Mancini goes 3-for-4 with a run scored Wed.
Trey Mancini went 3-for-4 and scored a run in Wednesday's loss to the Indians.

Advice: All three hits were singles. He scored his team's only run of the ballgame when Jonathan Schoop doubled him home in the ninth inning. The 25-year-old rookie is having a breakout season at the plate, batting .314/.357/.567 with 12 homers and 38 RBI in 210 plate appearances. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 9:04 pm
  • Kendrick goes 3-for-5 with a run and a steal
Howie Kendrick went 3-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored against the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Advice: He also walked in the ballgame. The 33-year-old veteran infielder-outfielder is now batting .350/.409/.475 with two homers and 12 RBI in 132 plate appearances. He missed six weeks with an oblique injury but it hasn't affected his performance since returning to action. He will be an interesting piece on the trade market this summer. The fact he can play all over the field adds to his value. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:34 pm

  • Yankees sticking with Chris Carter at first
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that Chris Carter is "still the best alternative" at first base.

Advice: With Greg Bird still down with an ankle injury and looking a ways off from his return, Carter has seen the bulk of at-bats at first for the Yankees this season. Unfortunately. The sometime-slugger is hitting just .201/.287/.384 and has struck out in 66 of 159 at-bats. Cashman said that first base prospect Tyler Austin is "not ready yet." • Joe Mauer has two hits in win on Tuesday
Joe Mauer went 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs as the Twins topped the White Sox on Tuesday.

Advice: Mauer also delivered a run-scoring single in the third inning. After a slow start to the season offensively, he has picked up the pace considerably over the last month and is hitting a respectable .276/.348/.391 with four homers and 29 RBI. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 9:24 pm

  • Howie Kendrick reaches four times
Howie Kendrick had three of the Phillies' seven hits and one of their two walks Tuesday against the Cardinals.

  • Valencia cracks two-run homer off Yu Darvish
Danny Valencia went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's win over the Rangers.

Advice: Valencia took Yu Darvish deep for a two-run homer with two outs in the first inning to put an exclamation point on what ended as a four-run frame for the M's. The dinger was his seventh of the season and bumped his RBI total to 37. In addition, the veteran first baseman is working to a .264/.322/.416 triple-slash in 64 games. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 4:14 pm

  • Mancini stays hot with triple, 12th home run
Trey Mancini went 2-for-4 and slugged his 12th home run of the season Sunday in the Orioles' defeat of the Cardinals.

Advice: Mancini went deep off Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn in the bottom of the second and he tripled and scored his second run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. The 25-year-old rookie began the year in a platoon role, starting primarily against left-handed pitchers, but he has muscled his way into everyday playing time and deserves to be owned and active in most standard fantasy leagues. Mancini boasts a .310/.352/.576 overall slash line with 38 RBI. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 2:14 pm
  • Kendrick goes 2-for-5 vs Diamondbacks Sat.
Howie Kendrick went 2-for-5 in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Advice: Both hits were singles and neither affected the score but it was another solid day at the plate for the 33-year-old veteran. He spent six weeks on the shelf with an oblique injury but he has picked up right where he left off with the bat. He can play all over the field and has played first base, second base and outfield for the Phillies this year. He is batting .321/.379/.462 with two homers and 12 RBI in 116 plate appearances. Advice: Mauer's average has tumbled from .294 to .276 over his past 12 outings, collecting just nine hits across 44 at-bats (.205). He has also posted an un-Mauer-like eight strikeouts over his past five outings. Still, he is slashing .276/.346/.393 and these latest struggles will end up being forgotten by season's end. Steve Pearce homered and walked in his return from the disabled list Friday.

Advice: He also drew a walk in the contest. He is batting a stellar .299/.346/.539 with 10 homers and 34 RBI in 167 at-bats. The 25-year-old rookie has seen his playing time steadily increase as the season rolls along. He deserves more attention in mixed fantasy leagues. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 10:49 pm
  • Duda punches three-run homer vs Cubs
Lucas Duda slugged a three-run homer against the Cubs on Wednesday.

Advice: He wasn't in the starting lineup but was called upon when Neil Walker left the game with a leg injury in the fourth inning. Duda went deep off Cubs reliever Hector Rondon in the eighth inning to break open a close game. He also walked in the ballgame. He has a .252 batting average with 12 home runs and 26 RBI.
