  • Cristhian Adames optioned to Triple-A
Rockies optioned INF Cristhian Adames to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: Adames has barely played this season, so it's no surprise he's been shipped out with Ian Desmond back. He'll represent depth in the minors. 30 minutes ago

  • Jhonny Peralta (illness) upping activities
Jhonny Peralta (illness) could be activated from the disabled list for the beginning of the Cardinals' May 8-10 series in Miami.

Advice: Peralta took grounders and hit in the batting cage Friday and will up his baseball activities in the next few days. He could travel to Florida by the end of the week to play in extended spraining training games or begin a rehab assignment. Peralta is working his way back from an upper respiratory illness that was made worse when he had an allergic reaction to medication. Jedd Gyorko has played well in Peralta's absence and could remain the starter at third base even after the .120-hitting Peralta returns. Today, 7:53 am

  • Danny Espinosa continues to scuffle
Danny Espinosa was hitless in four at-bats with a pair of strikeouts Saturday against the Rangers.

Advice: Espinosa has collected just two hits and one RBI over his past 28 at-bats, as his season average has dipped from .232 to .179. He continues to be a fantasy liability, unless of course you're starting the opposing pitcher. Espinosa has walked just five times with 34 strikeouts over 84 at-bats. Yesterday, 9:18 pm
  • Jose Reyes goes deep in win over Nationals
Jose Reyes launched his second home run of the season as the Mets topped the Nationals on Saturday afternoon.

Advice: His solo shot came off of Nats' closer Shawn Kelley in the ninth inning. After a brutal start to the season, Reyes' bat has shown signs of life in recent days. He also singled in this one, finishing the afternoon 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. He's now hitting .173/.264/.284 for the year. Yesterday, 1:38 pm
  • Christian Arroyo homers in Giants' win
Christian Arroyo homered off Ryan Buchter in the bottom of the eighth Friday to propel the Giants past the Padres.

Advice: Arroyo had just three homers in Double-A last year, but here he is with two in his first five games in the majors. The nice start should ensure that he's a lineup fixture for at least the next couple of weeks. The Giants would be just fine with him running away with the starting job at third base. Still, we don't see any mixed-league value here. Friday, 11:56 pm
  • Jorge Polanco goes 0-for-4
Jorge Polanco went 0-for-4 on Friday, dropping his average to .243.

Advice: Polanco got off to a nice start offensively, but he hasn't kept it up the last couple of weeks and he's now sporting just a .661 OPS. Since he lacks range at shortstop, he has to hit in order to help the Twins. Still, the team won't be quick to bench him, even if it seems Eduardo Escobar might be the superior option. • Arcia slugs three-run homer Friday
Orlando Arcia went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and two runs scored Friday against the Braves.

Advice: Arcia has now homered in back-to-back games. The 22-year-old has pulled his batting average up from .209 to .243 in that time. The Brewers are going to be patient with him due to the value he provides on defense, but he’s not ready to be much of a fantasy factor just yet. Friday, 9:57 pm
  • Pete Kozma designated for assignment
Yankees designated INF Pete Kozma for assignment.

Advice: He's no longer needed with Didi Gregorius (shoulder) back from the disabled list. Kozma should clear waivers and stick around in the organization as depth. Friday, 11:43 am

  • Gonzalez has two hits, homer against Indians
Marwin Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a home run in Thursday's loss to the Indians.

Advice: Gonzalez went through an 0-for-16 stretch before snapping out of it with a 2-for-4 game Wednesday, and he followed it up with his fourth homer of the year and his first since April 9. After that strong first week-plus he appeared to be in line for more playing time, but the emergence of Yuli Gurriel has relegated Gonzalez to a part-time player. He can be left alone in fantasy leagues if he's not getting everyday at-bats, and even then he's best left for AL-only leagues. Thursday, 7:11 pm

  • Jose Reyes hits first homer against Braves
Jose Reyes went 2-for-3 and hit his first homer of the year Thursday against the Braves.

Advice: At least Reyes still has knuckleball bat speed. Anything over 80 mph has given him hits this year, but put him up against Dickey or Jered Weaver and he still has a chance. Thursday, 1:18 pm
  • Crawford goes 1-for-4
Phillies prospect J.P. Crawford went 1-for-4 on Wednesday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Advice: That hit saw Crawford's average rise to .100. Yikes. There are only two positives to take away from this start: He's still drawing walks (nine in 17 games) and it's still just April. Those positives aside, this is a borderline disastrous start for one of the top prospects in baseball. Thursday, 11:17 am

  • Red Sox claim Chase d'Arnaud from ATL
Red Sox claimed INF Chase d'Arnaud off waivers from the Braves.

Advice: He was designated for assignment by Atlanta on Tuesday. The 30-year-old infielder holds a weak .231/.288/.312 career batting line at the major league level. Thursday, 10:55 am

  • Three hits for Mateo
Yankees prospect Jorge Mateo went 3-for-5 on Wednesday for High-A Tampa.

Advice: Mateo also scored two runs. It was a much needed quality game for the infielder, as even with the three-hit day his average still sits at .234. All of the talent is here to be a fantasy stalwart, but the application of those talents has taken a hit in the last few years. He might need a change of scenery. Thursday, 10:51 am

  • Multi-hit game for Albies
Braves prospect Ozzie Albies went 2-for-4 on Wednesday for Triple-A Gwinnett.

Advice: One of those hits was a double, and ALbies also scored two runs while picking up his eighth stolen base. The hit and speed combination continues to impress, and despite being just 20-years-old, he's still on track to reach the big leagues this summer. Thursday, 10:07 am

  • Tigers activate Iglesias from concussion DL
Tigers activated SS Jose Iglesias from the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Advice: Iglesias cleared MLB's concussion protocol and will return to the shortstop position for Detroit in Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Mariners. He's batting .267/.298/.444 with one home run and two stolen bases in 13 games this season. Thursday, 8:31 am
  • Christian Arroyo hits first homer
Christian Arroyo hit his first big-league homer off Sergio Romo to help the Giants edge the Dodgers 4-3 in 10 innings Wednesday.

Advice: Arroyo's homer put the Giants on the board in the seventh. Interestingly, the Giants picked Eduardo Nunez over Arroyo as the shortstop today with Brandon Crawford out. Arroyo was still playing more short that anything else in Triple-A, and he should be better there than Nunez. Arroyo did finish the game at short after Nunez moved to left field. Wednesday, 11:20 pm
  • Erick Aybar hits second homer
Erick Aybar went 2-for-3 with a homer and a steal Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: His second hint was a bunt single that started a five-run rally in the top of the ninth. Aybar doesn't bring much to the table these days, but the Padres believe he adds stability at shortstop. He's been a fixture thus far despite hitting just .200/.293/.338. Wednesday, 11:02 pm

  • Jose Iglesias expected back on Thursday
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus confirmed Jose Iglesias (concussion) will likely be activated from the 7-day disabled list on Thursday.

Advice: Iglesias took a knee to the head in a game against the Rays last Wednesday but only needed a week to recover. The 27-year-old has hit .267 with one home run and two steals in the early going. Wednesday, 2:20 pm
  • Arcia hits RBI double, two-run homer vs. CIN
Orlando Arcia finished 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI in the Brewers' defeat of the Reds on Wednesday.

Advice: Arcia contributed an RBI double to the Brewers' five-run outburst in the bottom of the first inning before socking a two-run homer in the bottom of the third. The young shortstop got off to a slow start this season and is still batting just .229/.260/.371 in 21 games overall. We wouldn't expect a full-on breakout in 2017. Wednesday, 1:47 pm
  • Iglesias (head) cleared for baseball activity
Jose Iglesias (concussion) has been cleared to resume baseball activities.

Advice: And the hope is that he'll be ready to come off the 7-day concussion disabled list when first eligible on Thursday. Dixon Machado and Andrew Romine have been filling in at shortstop for Detroit. Tuesday, 1:18 pm
  • Braves designate d'Arnaud for assignment
Braves designated INF Chase d'Arnaud for assignment.

Advice: He gets the boot to make room for Lane Adams on the active roster. D'Arnaud has been used sparingly in the early part of the season and batted just .245/.317/.335 over 262 plate appearances last season. He could potentially pass through waivers, though his versatility could draw some interest from other clubs. Tuesday, 12:24 pm

  • Christian Arroyo goes 0-for-4 in debut
Christian Arroyo went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his major league debut Monday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Arroyo was tearing it up in Triple-A, but that was just 16 games and he had a .689 OPS in 119 games in Double-A last year. He isn't a mixed-league option right now. Monday, 10:53 pm
  • Giants call up top prospect Christian Arroyo
Giants purchased the contract of INF Christian Arroyo from Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: The Giants are 6-13 and reeling from the loss of Madison Bumgarner, so they're taking a shot that Arroyo might be able to provide a spark. A first-round pick in the 2013 Draft, Arroyo had a disappointing 2016 at the Double-A level but has been on fire this year at Sacramento, batting .446/.478/.692 with three homers, 12 RBI and two stolen bases. He is batting sixth Monday in his major league debut and will take over as the team's everyday third baseman, with Eduardo Nunez moving to left field. Arroyo might add something to San Francisco's offense, but the 21-year-old's skill set might not lead to much fantasy value, at least not right away. Monday, 3:26 pm
  • Orlando Arcia finishes 0-for-3 vs. STL
Orlando Arcia finished 0-for-3 with a strikeout Sunday in the Brewers' loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Arcia is batting just .210/.234/.306 in 18 games to open the 2017 season. He's a nice young player, but it could take years for the offense to catch up with his excellent defense. Apr 23, 2:41 pm
  • Jose Iglesias goes on concussion DL
Tigers placed SS Jose Iglesias on the 7-day concussion disabled list, retroactive to April 20.

Advice: Iglesias suffered a concussion after taking a knee to the head Wednesday against the Rays. Dixon Machado should handle the bulk of the shortstop duties while Iglesias is out. Apr 21, 8:13 am
  • Jose Iglesias likely headed to 7-day DL
Jose Iglesias (concussion) is expected to be placed on the 7-day disabled list.

Advice: According to beat writer Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press, relievers Blaine Hardy and Joe Jimenez are set to join the team Friday in Minnesota. Iglesias is still dealing with headaches after taking a knee to the head Wednesday against Tampa Bay. Dixon Machado drew the start at shortstop in Thursday's series finale. Apr 20, 2:21 pm
  • Cardinals put Jhonny Peralta (illness) on DL
Cardinals placed 3B Jhonny Peralta on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 16, with an upper respiratory illness.

Advice: Peralta was off to a 3-for-25 (.120) start with nine strikeouts and zero extra-base hits. Maybe the time off will act as a kind of reset for him. Greg Garcia and Jedd Gyorko figure to share starts at third base for St. Louis. There's also talk of Matt Carpenter sliding back over from first base. Apr 20, 12:30 pm

  • Arroyo knocks in four for Sacramento
Giants infield prospect Christian Arroyo went 4-for-5 and knocked in four runs on Wednesday for Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Two of those four hits were for extra-bases: A double and a homer. The 2013 first-round selection is crushing the ball right now to a tune of .479/.510/.750. These kind of numbers obviously aren't sustainable, but they do help illustrate why he's the most talented offensive prospect in the Giant system. Apr 20, 10:04 am
  • Iglesias could be headed to concussion DL
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said a decision will be made by the end of the day Thursday on Jose Iglesias (jaw, concussion) heading to the disabled list.

Advice: Iglesias is still being evaluated for a possible concussion after taking a knee to the head in the ninth inning Wednesday while attempting to turn a double play. The rangy shortstop will not play in Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Rays. For now he's been diagnosed with a sore jaw. Apr 20, 8:23 am
  • Erick Aybar homers against Arizona
Erick Aybar homered off Arizona's Zack Greinke for the only run of the game in the Padres' win Wednesday.

Advice: Aybar is no longer a plus defender, so he has to hit to be of use. Right now, he's at .150/.292/.275 in 40 at-bats. Still, he came up big tonight. Apr 19, 10:42 pm
