  • Mike Zunino drops one into cheap seats
Mike Zunino swatted his 15th home run of the season in Tuesday's win against the Red Sox while also drawing a pair of walks.

Advice: The walks might have been more impressive than the solo homer, as he had managed just 18 free passes over his first 72 games. He is a solid source of power from the catcher position, but be ready for a subpar average and plenty of strikeouts, too. Today, 2:20 am
  • Three more hits for Buster Posey
Buster Posey posted a pair of singles, a double, two runs scored and an RBI in Tuesday's victory against Pittsburgh.

Advice: Posey hit .330 or better in each of his first three months, but he has struggled with a .269 (18-for-67) mark in July. However, he is making up for lost time over the past few games, going 6-for-13 with a double and four RBI. Today, 1:53 am
  • Kurt Suzuki belts two homers in road win
Kurt Suzuki posted a pair of home runs with three RBI across four at-bats in Tuesday's 8-3 win in Arizona.

Advice: Suzuki has come alive at the plate in the month of July, belting six of his 10 homers. He is hitting a robust .375 (12-for-32) with a double, six homers and 11 RBI across eight July games to raise his average from .230 to .262. Still, he is in a timeshare with Tyler Flowers and that's not expected to change anytime soon. Yesterday, 10:47 pm
  • Yadier Molina gets two hits, steals base
Yadier Molina singled twice and stole a base Tuesday versus the Rockies.

Advice: Molina picked Jon Gray's pocket in the first inning, taking off for second base and swiping the bag when Gray didn't even throw a pitch. The seven steals match Yadi's total from the previous three seasons combined. He hasn't been a good real-life hitter with an OPS+ well under 100, but Molina has been a fine fantasy performer. Yesterday, 8:46 pm
  • Manny Pina goes 3-for-4 with homer
Manny Pina went 3-for-4 with a solo homer on Tuesday versus the Nationals.

Advice: Eric Thames took Edwin Jackson deep to lead off the fifth inning, and Pina followed with a longball of his own. The catcher also added a couple singles and a walk, reaching base four times on the night. Pina will continue to receive an uptick in playing time over the next few weeks while Stephen Vogt (knee) is out. Yesterday, 8:02 pm
  • Matt Wieters hitless in loss to Brewers
Matt Wieters went hitless in four plate appearances Tuesday versus the Brewers and is now batting .246/.293/.380 on the season.

Advice: The low on-base percentage from Wieters is expected this point, but he's been a disappointment in the power department. The veteran backstop slugged four dingers in April but has just three since, and none so far in July. Yesterday, 7:45 pm
  • Salvy Perez (rib) expects to play Wednesday
Salvador Perez (rib) said he expects to catch Wednesday against the Tigers.

Advice: Perez made an early exit from Tuesday night's victory in Detroit after experiencing tightness around his rib cage, but he should ultimately be fine. The star catcher had a similar issue earlier this year, though that was on the other side of his body. Yesterday, 7:39 pm

  • James McCann plates lone run in loss Tuesday
James McCann went 1-for-3 and plated the club's lone run in Tuesday's loss to the Royals.

Advice: McCann's run-scoring single in the fourth inning pulled the Tigers to within two runs at 3-1, but that would be the extent of their offense in the ballgame. The backstop is now hitting .228/.308/.439 with nine homers and 27 RBI on the season. Yesterday, 7:11 pm
  • Salvy Perez leaves game with rib tightness
Salvador Perez was removed from Tuesday night's game against the Tigers with rib tightness.

Advice: It's being called a precautionary exit and Salvy is considered day-to-day for now. He was 1-for-2 with a single and a strikeout before getting replaced behind the plate by Drew Butera. Yesterday, 6:30 pm
    4:10 pm @Det
  • Rockies interested in Jonathan Lucroy trade's T.R. Sullivan reports that the Rockies have expressed interest in Rangers catcher Jonathan Lucroy.

Advice: Colorado has also been connected to Tigers catcher Alex Avila and Braves catcher Kurt Suzuki. Lucroy is batting just .240/.293/.339 with four home runs and 26 RBI in 75 games this season, but he was an All-Star in 2016 and is only owed around $1.5 million. The 31-year-old catcher can become a free agent in November. Yesterday, 5:32 pm
  • Contreras homers, plates four vs. White Sox
Willson Contreras went 3-for-4 with a home run and four total RBI in the Cubs' 7-2 defeat of the White Sox on Tuesday.

Advice: Contreras belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. The 25-year-old catcher has been in a good offensive groove since the middle of May and now boasts a .273/.336/.498 batting line with 16 home runs and 56 RBI over 89 games this season. Yesterday, 3:21 pm
  • Marlins recall Tomas Telis from New Orleans
Marlins recalled C/1B Tomas Telis from Triple-A New Orleans.

Advice: Telis could see some run at first base while Justin Bour recovers from an oblique strain, but the 26-year-old is a .230/.260/.278 career hitter in the major leagues and carries no fantasy relevance. Yesterday, 1:47 pm
  • Report: Cubs could have interest in Rivera
Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Cubs could have interest in acquiring Rene Rivera from the Mets.

Advice: The Cubs recently cut ties with Miguel Montero after he threw his teammates under the bus, so Rivera would give the club a veteran option to back up Willson Contreras. Victor Caratini is currently filling the backup role. Rivera, 33, is batting .245/.291/.395 with six homers and 20 RBI over 46 games this season. Yesterday, 12:04 pm
  • Contreras to get day off Wednesday
Willson Contreras is expected to get the day off Wednesday.

Advice: Contreras is starting his fifth straight game Tuesday, so he could use the breather. Victor Caratini will fill in and catch Jake Arrieta. Yesterday, 9:42 am
  • Kyle Schwarber out of lineup Tuesday
Kyle Schwarber is out of the Cubs' lineup Tuesday against the White Sox.

Advice: He'll take a seat against lefty Carlos Rodon. Ian Happ will play left field. Yesterday, 7:32 am
  • Buster Posey drives in pair of runs in loss
Buster Posey finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI in Monday's loss against Pittsburgh.

Advice: The Giants were drummed 10-3, but as usual Posey was his steady self at the plate. After a slow period at the plate by his standards, Posey has collected six RBI over the past seven outings. He'll look to keep it rolling in Tuesday's game against Jameson Taillon and the Bucs. Yesterday, 2:45 am
  • Jason Castro turns in multi-hit line
Jason Castro posted a pair of doubles with an RBI in Monday's road loss against the Dodgers.

Advice: Castro continues to see regular playing time despite the fact he is still hitting just .223. However, he is showing some signs of life with multi-hit performances in two of his past three outings. Still, he is nothing more than a No. 2 fantasy option in most AL formats. Yesterday, 1:28 am
  • McCann hits 13th homer as Astros roll Phils
Brian McCann hit his 13th homer of the season on Monday night against the Phillies.

Advice: It was a solo shot in the top of the second inning, and Alex Bregman followed McCann with a solo shot of his own as the first-place Astros rolled to a big 13-4 victory. McCann, 33, is sporting his best OPS (.778) since 2013, his final year with the Braves and the Astros are 66-33. Monday, 10:09 pm
  • Salvy Perez slugs 20th homer vs. Detroit
Salvador Perez hit his 20th homer of the year Monday in the Royals' victory over the Tigers.

Advice: It was a go-ahead solo shot in the top of the 12th inning, and Mike Moustakas promptly pushed the Royals' lead to 5-3 with a solo bomb of his own. Perez finished 2-for-4 with a walk in the crucial victory for Kansas City. Monday, 8:28 pm

  • Braves activate Suzuki from bereavement list
Braves activated C Kurt Suzuki from the bereavement list.

Advice: Suzuki was away from the team over the weekend in order to attend his grandfather's funeral. Now that he's back, Anthony Recker will return to the minors. Monday, 12:45 pm
  • Willson Contreras powers Cubs past Cardinals
Willson Contreras blasted a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning on Sunday, powering the Cubs to a 5-3 victory over the Cardinals.

Advice: Contreras tagged Cardinals' starter Michael Wacha for the game-changing blast. He finished the night 1-for-4. The hard-hitting backstop is slashing .269/.334/.491 with 15 long balls and 52 RBI on the season. Sunday, 8:19 pm
  • Buster Posey hits RBI single in loss to SDP
Buster Posey went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in Sunday's loss to the Padres.

Advice: Posey notched an RBI single against Dinelson Lamet in the first inning for his lone knock of the afternoon. The backstop is putting in another on-the-money season this year, slashing .319/.403/.492 with 11 homers and 40 RBI in 87 games played. Sunday, 4:17 pm
  • Yadier Molina (ankle) hitless in return
Yadier Molina (ankle) went 0-for-3 with a hit by pitch in his return to the lineup Saturday.

Advice: Molina was a late scratch from Friday's lineup due to right ankle discomfort, but he'll be fine. He had a chance to tie Saturday's game with a base hit with two outs in the top of the ninth inning but struck out to end it. Sunday, 5:41 am
  • Perez, Moustakas go back-to-back Saturday
Salvador Perez hit a two-run home run in a win over the White Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Perez took Sox reliever David Holmberg deep in the sixth inning, the first of three homers -- also the front end of back-to-back jacks from Perez and Mike Moustakas -- in the inning. The homer was the 19th of the year for Perez, who has a very modest six-game hitting streak going. On the year, the 27-year-old is batting a healthy .284/.314/.523 in 88 games. Saturday, 9:46 pm
    4:10 pm @Det
  • Report: Cubs interested in Jonathan Lucroy
According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Cubs may have more interest in acquiring Jonathan Lucroy than Yu Darvish.

Advice: Per Grant, the Cubs have made "at least a passing call" on Darvish but Lucroy is who they really have their eye on. The Cubs traded backup catcher Miguel Montero after his criticism of Jake Arrieta earlier this month, forcing Willson Contreras into a near-everyday role. Lucroy has struggled this year (.244 AVG with four homers in 266 at-bats) but has a proven track record and has plenty of experience playing in the NL Central after spending the first six-and-a-half years of his career with Milwaukee. His contract is up after this year, so he'd only be a rental. Saturday, 8:34 pm
  • Brian McCann getting a breather Saturday
Brian McCann is out of the Astros' lineup Saturday against the Orioles.

Advice: He's just getting a maintenance day. Evan Gattis will start behind the plate and bat fifth Saturday versus O's right-hander Chris Tillman. Saturday, 1:45 pm
  • Willson Contreras homers in Cubs' loss
Willson Contreras slugged a two-run homer in Friday's loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Contreras took Carlos Martinez deep in the bottom of the first inning to give the Cubs an early lead. The young catcher has gone deep in two straight games and has belted nine longballs over his last 25 contests. Friday, 2:42 pm
  • Yadier Molina scratched with sore ankle
Yadier Molina was a late scratch from Friday's lineup due to right ankle discomfort.

Advice: It's unclear when the ankle began bothering Molina, who had a day off Thursday. Consider him day-to-day. Carson Kelly has taken Molina's spot behind the plate in what will be his first start in the majors this season. Friday, 11:32 am
  • Kurt Suzuki placed on bereavement list
Braves placed C Kurt Suzuki on the bereavement list.

Advice: Suzuki will be away for the weekend in order to attend his grandfather's funeral. Anthony Recker has replaced him on the roster. Friday, 6:08 am
  • Kurt Suzuki launches two-run homer in win
Kurt Suzuki went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Suzuki cranked a two-run homer off Brandon McCarthy in the fourth inning, his eighth long ball of the season. That matches his total from the 2016 season. The veteran backstop has not hit double-digit home runs since he socked 14 back in 2011, when he was with the A's. Thursday, 10:23 pm
  • Molina, Gyorko, Piscotty sitting Thursday
Yadier Molina is on the bench Thursday afternoon against the Mets.

Advice: Jedd Gyorko and Stephen Piscotty are also absent from the Cardinals' getaway day starting lineup. Eric Fryer will start behind the plate and bat eighth versus Mets right-hander Seth Lugo. Greg Garcia is at third base and Magneuris Sierra is in right field. Thursday, 6:46 am
  • Buster Posey hits go-ahead two-run double
Buster Posey connected for a pinch-hit, go-ahead two-run double in Wednesday's win over the Indians.

Advice: Posey initially received the day off on Wednesday, but with the Giants trailing 4-3 and threatening in the eighth inning, manager Bruce Bochy decided to summon his All-Star catcher from off the bench. That move worked out plenty well, with Posey proceeding to pick up a two-run double to flip the score to 5-4, Giants. For the campaign as a whole, Posey is hitting .329/.409/.508 with 11 homers and 40 RBI in 295 at-bats. He is as reliable as they come. Wednesday, 5:38 pm
  • Posey, Pence out of SF lineup Wednesday
Buster Posey is not in the Giants' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Indians.

Advice: Nick Hundley will catch and hit sixth versus Cleveland right-hander Carlos Carrasco with Posey taking a routine breather. Hunter Pence will also get the day off. Wednesday, 10:53 am
  • Willson Contreras supplies power in victory
Willson Contreras launched a three-run home run in Tuesday's 5-1 road victory against the Braves.

Advice: It was the only hit of the night for Contreras across four at-bats, although he was able to draw a walk. He is up to 13 homers with 48 RBI while slashing .273/.440/.674. Those numbers easily make him a Top 5 fantasy backstop in most leagues, and his 2.4 WAR ranks him fourth in the majors at his position. Wednesday, 12:10 am
  • Lucroy hits RBI double versus Orioles
Jonathan Lucroy hit an RBI double in the Rangers' loss to the Orioles on Monday.

Advice: His drive to center field in the top of the second inning scored Drew Robinson from first base for the Rangers' first and only run of the night. Lucroy was thrown out while trying to advance to third. He finished 1-for-3 in the game and holds a disappointing .258/.303/.365 overall batting line this year. Monday, 7:15 pm
  • Willson Contreras has four more hits in win
Willson Contreras stayed hot in Sunday's victory over the Orioles, going 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored.

Advice: Perhaps there's something to be said about a hitter being comfortable or having an extra level of motivation depending on where they are hitting in the lineup. Contreras is now hitting .372 (16-for-43) with four homers and 10 RBI in 12 games batting cleanup this year. Jul 16, 1:57 pm
  • Salvador Perez slow so far after the break
Salvador Perez finished hitless in four at-bats with a pair of strikeouts in Saturday's game against the Rangers.

Advice: The All-Star Perez has been sluggish in two games since returning from the festivities in Miami, going 0-for-8 with three strikeouts. It wouldn't be surprising to see him get a rest on Sunday with Drew Butera handling the receiver duties in an afternoon game in the series finale. Jul 15, 11:03 pm
