  • Daniel Descalso slugs walk-off homer in 13th
Daniel Descalso slugged a walk-off home run in the 13th inning on Sunday, powering the Diamondbacks to a 2-0 victory over the Rockies.

Advice: In a well-pitched and hotly-contested ballgame, the Diamondbacks finally broke through off of Jordan Lyles in the 13th inning. Brandon Drury got things started with an infield single before Descalso crushed the game-winner over the wall in right-center. He finished the afternoon 3-for-6 and is now hitting .178/.275/.333 with two long balls and eight RBI on the year. Today, 5:36 pm

  • Didi Gregorius goes 3-for-6
Didi Gregorius went 3-for-6 with two RBI against the Orioles on Sunday.

Advice: Gregorius ends his first season back from the DL 7-for-15 with five RBI. We're not sure that he'll be a mixed-league shortstop all year long, but it'll definitely help his cause that the Yankees lineup is significantly better than it was last season. Today, 3:01 pm
  • Tyler Saladino goes 0-for-5
Tyler Saladino went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts as the White Sox's leadoff hitter Sunday.

Advice: Saladino still has a .345 OBP in his 13 games leading off, so the White Sox could do worse there. Saladino, though, has yet to make any sort of impact for fantasy purposes. He's hitting just .221, and he's been thrown out on three of his five steal attempts. He might be a month away from being pushed back into a utility role by Yoan Moncada. Today, 2:41 pm

  • Marwin Gonzalez slugs fifth home run
Marwin Gonzalez slugged his fifth home run of the season Sunday versus the Athletics.

Advice: It was a three-run shot in the bottom of the eighth that put the game out of reach for Oakland. Gonzalez has hit well over the last week, but the 28-year-old does not currently have an everyday role and can go on being ignored in standard fantasy leagues. Today, 2:40 pm

  • Carlos Correa goes 2-for-4 vs. Oakland
Carlos Correa finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored Sunday in the Astros' defeat of the A's.

Advice: Correa drove in George Springer with an RBI double in the bottom of the first before singling and scoring on a Marwin Gonzalez three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth. The star shortstop is beginning to produce at a more reliable rate after a short mid-April slump. He's slashing .233/.309/.349 overall on the year. Today, 2:37 pm
  • Francisco Lindor hits seventh homer in win
Francisco Lindor went 2-for-5 and hit his seventh homer Sunday as the Indians routed the Mariners 12-4.

Advice: Lindor is almost halfway to his total of 15 homers in 158 games last year. If the power outburst is for real, then he might be the AL's second-best player while still at the tender age of 23. Today, 2:12 pm
  • Jurickson Profar likely to be sent down
Jurickson Profar is likely to be optioned to Triple-A Round Rock once waiver claim Pete Kozma reports to the Rangers.

Advice: Profar is hitting .135 without an extra-base hit so far this season and isn't playing much at this point, so the Rangers might as well give him regular playing time in the minors. The former top prospect is a career .229/.309/.328 hitter over 199 games in the majors. Today, 11:48 am

  • Pete Kozma claimed off waivers by Rangers
Rangers claimed INF Pete Kozma off waivers from the Yankees.

Advice: He'll be added to the 25-man roster once he reports, and it's possible the Rangers will send down Jurickson Profar in a corresponding move. Kozma will over a steady infield glove but next to nothing at the plate. Today, 11:45 am

  • Cristhian Adames designated for assignment
Rockies designated INF Cristhian Adames for assignment.

Advice: Adames has barely played this season, so it's no surprise he's been shipped out with Ian Desmond back. He should clear waivers. Today, 11:15 am

  • Corey Seager getting a day off Sunday
Corey Seager is not in the Dodgers' lineup Sunday.

Advice: He's just getting a breather. Enrique Hernandez will fill in at shortstop. Today, 11:02 am
    W, 5-3 vs Phi
  • Asdrubal Cabrera not in lineup Sunday
Asdrubal Cabrera is not in the Mets' lineup Sunday.

Advice: It looks to be a simple day off. Jose Reyes will slide over to shortstop, while Matt Reynolds will handle third base. Today, 8:02 am
  • Jhonny Peralta (illness) upping activities
Jhonny Peralta (illness) could be activated from the disabled list for the beginning of the Cardinals' May 8-10 series in Miami.

Advice: Peralta took grounders and hit in the batting cage Friday and will up his baseball activities in the next few days. He could travel to Florida by the end of the week to play in extended spraining training games or begin a rehab assignment. Peralta is working his way back from an upper respiratory illness that was made worse when he had an allergic reaction to medication. Jedd Gyorko has played well in Peralta's absence and could remain the starter at third base even after the .120-hitting Peralta returns. Today, 7:53 am

  • Eduardo Nunez turning it around?
Eduardo Nunez finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI in Saturday's loss against the Padres.

Advice: Nunez kicked off the season with three straight multi-hit games, but he has just three multi-hit performances over his past 20 outings. He has tailed off tremendously, but perhaps Saturday's outing is a sign he is about to turn things around. Nunez remains useful in deeper NL-only formats, especially as a cheap source of steals. Yesterday, 10:51 pm
  • Trevor Story cranks another homer Saturday
Trevor Story belted a solo home run with a walk in Saturday's 7-6 win against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Story is hitting just .184 overall on the season, but he is proving last year's power was certainly no fluke. He has five homers with 11 RBI over his past 11 games so start him in all fantasy leagues through thick and thin. Yesterday, 10:15 pm
  • Danny Espinosa continues to scuffle
Danny Espinosa was hitless in four at-bats with a pair of strikeouts Saturday against the Rangers.

Advice: Espinosa has collected just two hits and one RBI over his past 28 at-bats, as his season average has dipped from .232 to .179. He continues to be a fantasy liability, unless of course you're starting the opposing pitcher. Espinosa has walked just five times with 34 strikeouts over 84 at-bats. Yesterday, 9:18 pm
  • Trevor Story hits fifth homer
Trevor Story hit his fifth homer Friday in the win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: He also struck out three times. Story has 36 strikeouts in the Rockies' 24 games, putting him on pace to finish the year with 243 strikeouts. He won't come in that high, of course, but there's just no way he's going to hit for average while striking out at such a rate. Friday, 11:44 pm
  • Pete Kozma designated for assignment
Yankees designated INF Pete Kozma for assignment.

Advice: He's no longer needed with Didi Gregorius (shoulder) back from the disabled list. Kozma should clear waivers and stick around in the organization as depth. Friday, 11:43 am

  • Didi Gregorius activated from disabled list
Yankees activated SS Didi Gregorius from the 10-day disabled list.

Advice: Gregorius missed almost the entire first month of the season with a strained right shoulder that he suffered during the World Baseball Classic, but he played in some rehab games with no issues. He's starting at shortstop and batting sixth Friday. Friday, 11:42 am
  • Gonzalez has two hits, homer against Indians
Marwin Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a home run in Thursday's loss to the Indians.

Advice: Gonzalez went through an 0-for-16 stretch before snapping out of it with a 2-for-4 game Wednesday, and he followed it up with his fourth homer of the year and his first since April 9. After that strong first week-plus he appeared to be in line for more playing time, but the emergence of Yuli Gurriel has relegated Gonzalez to a part-time player. He can be left alone in fantasy leagues if he's not getting everyday at-bats, and even then he's best left for AL-only leagues. Thursday, 7:11 pm

  • Gregorius expected to be activated Friday
Yankees manager Joe Girardi expects Didi Gregorius (shoulder) to be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

Advice: Gregorius is ready to roll after completing a five-game rehab assignment with High-A Tampa. It took him a little over a month to recover from a strained shoulder. With Gregorius taking over as the everyday shortstop, Ronald Torreyes will head back to the bench. Thursday, 2:28 pm
  • Gregorius (shoulder) could return Friday
Didi Gregorius (shoulder) is on track to return against the Orioles this weekend.

Advice: Gregorius could be back as soon as Friday. The 27-year-old has looked sharp during his minor league rehab assignment, hitting .429 with a homer in four games for High-A Tampa. Gregorius has spent the past month recovering from a shoulder strain he suffered at the World Baseball Classic. Ronald Torreyes has been kept his seat warm at shortstop over the first few weeks. Wednesday, 2:36 pm
  • Profar goes 0-for-2 in loss to Twins
Jurickson Profar finished 0-for-2 in the Rangers' loss to the Twins on Monday.

Advice: Profar is now batting just .135 with zero extra-base hits in 46 plate appearances this season. The former top prospect is a non-factor in fantasy. Monday, 8:52 pm

  • Trevor Story comes through w/ two-run single
Trevor Story went 1-for-4 with a two-run single in Sunday's win over the Giants.

Advice: The Rockies were already leading 4-0 when Story stepped to the plate with two on and one out against Jeff Samardzija in the sixth inning. He proceeded to pick up an RBI single, driving Samardzija from the game in the process. It was a brief ray of sunshine in what has otherwise been a miserable start to the season for Story, who is hitting just .154/.257/.400 over 65 at-bats. In that space, he has whiffed 29 times. The power is still there -- he launched a grand slam on Friday for his fourth home run of the season -- but the occasional power connection is just about all he has going for him these days. Apr 23, 3:14 pm
  • Lindo clubs fifth homer in loss to White Sox
Francisco Lindor clubbed his fifth home run of the season in a losing effort against the White Sox on Sunday.

Advice: The Tribe was unable to complete their three-game sweep of the White Sox but Lindor continued his hot-hitting. His fourth-inning blast off of Derek Holland was the only offense they were able to generate against the White Sox' starter. Lindor also singled, finishing the afternoon 2-for-4. He's now hitting .315/.373/.616 with five homers and 12 RBI. He didn't hit his fifth home run of 2016 until June 4. Apr 23, 2:27 pm
  • Didi Gregorius (shoulder) on rehab assignment
Didi Gregorius (shoulder) has gone 2-for-6 at the plate while playing six innings in each game in his first two rehab contests with High-A Tampa.

Advice: Working his way back from a right shoulder strain, Gregorius is expected to be activated from the disabled list in early May assuming all goes well. Ronald Torreyes has been filling in at shortstop for the Yankees. Apr 23, 6:41 am
  • Corey Seager sitting against Robbie Ray
Corey Seager is not in the Dodgers' lineup Saturday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The Dodgers are stacking their lineup with right-handed bats against southpaw Robbie Ray. Enrique Hernandez is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff on Saturday. Seager has had a strong opening month, hitting .308 in the early going with three homers and 14 RBI. Apr 22, 2:35 pm

  • Asdrubal Cabrera returns to Mets lineup
Asdrubal Cabrera has returned to the Mets' starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Cabrera was held out of Friday's lineup due to an unspecified leg issue but is well enough to be back in there on Saturday. His bat becomes even more critical in a depleted lineup and Cabrera is occupying the third spot in the order against Gio Gonzalez and the Nationals. Apr 22, 9:29 am
  • Corey Seager homers, knocks in three
Corey Seager finished 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Advice: The Dodgers were routed anyway, but Seager upped his average to .308. He has three homers, five doubles and 14 RBI in 17 games. Apr 21, 10:29 pm
    W, 5-3 vs Phi
  • Trevor Story hits grand slam in win
Trevor Story hit a grand slam off Johnny Cueto in the Rockies' 6-5 win over the Giants on Friday.

Advice: Story has eight hits through 17 games: four homers, three doubles and one single. He's already fanned a whopping 26 times, putting him on pace for about 250 if he were to start every game. There's just no way he's going to hit for average unless he can cut back on the strike threes. Apr 21, 9:47 pm
  • Asdrubal Cabrera sitting out with leg issues
Asdrubal Cabrera is not in Friday's lineup due to an unspecified leg issue.

Advice: It's unclear what Cabrera is dealing with, but apparently he's been bothered by it for a few days. Consider him day-to-day. Jose Reyes is filling in at shortstop, while Juan Lagares is batting second. Apr 21, 1:16 pm
  • Tyler Saladino not in Friday's lineup
Tyler Saladino is absent from the White Sox' lineup Friday.

Advice: Yolmer Sanchez is starting at second base over Saladino, who is hitting just .184/.340/.237 in the early going. Tim Anderson is batting leadoff. Apr 21, 12:19 pm
    L, 7-3 @Det
  • Report: Lindor turned down $100M extension's Tom Verducci reports that Francisco Lindor turned down a contract extension offer worth around $100 million prior to Opening Day.

Advice: Brody Chernof, the son of Indians' general manager Mike Chernof, let the cat out of the bag in a radio interview toward the end of spring training that the club was trying to sign Lindor to a seven-year extension, but this is the first dollar amount we've seen attached to it. $100 million would be an unprecedented commitment for a guy who's not even arbitration-eligible until after 2018, but it would allow the Indians to buy out a couple free agent years for one of the best players in the game. Lindor and his camp didn't take the bait, however, and Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer says there are currently no active extension talks between the Indians and any player, Lindor included. Perhaps the two sides will try again next winter. Apr 21, 5:32 am
  • Cardinals put Jhonny Peralta (illness) on DL
Cardinals placed 3B Jhonny Peralta on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 16, with an upper respiratory illness.

Advice: Peralta was off to a 3-for-25 (.120) start with nine strikeouts and zero extra-base hits. Maybe the time off will act as a kind of reset for him. Greg Garcia and Jedd Gyorko figure to share starts at third base for St. Louis. There's also talk of Matt Carpenter sliding back over from first base. Apr 20, 12:30 pm

  • Correa (hand) back in Astros lineup Thursday
Carlos Correa (hand) is back in the Astros' starting lineup Thursday versus the Angels.

Advice: Correa took a pitch off his right hand Saturday, but X-ray and MRI results all turned up negative and he's mostly over the swelling by now. Correa will start at shortstop and bat cleanup Thursday against Anaheim right-hander Matt Shoemaker. He missed three games. Apr 20, 8:13 am
