      Zack Gelof blasted a solo homer on Sunday in the Athletics’ loss to the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Gelof took Arizona starter Brandon Pfaadt deep to right-center field in the fifth inning for his ninth round-tripper of the season. The 24-year-old got off to an excruciatingly-slow start this season at the dish, but has come alive a little bit over the last few weeks, batting .259 with four homers and two steals in his last 15 games.     • Greene allows one run in loss to Cardinals Sunday
      Hunter Greene allowed one run in 4 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Cardinals on Sunday.



      Advice: Greene gave up four hits, walked two and struck out six. It was certainly better than his last start where he allowed six runs, but the Cardinals worked up his pitch count and he was unable to complete even five innings. Greene has a 3.70 ERA and 4.29 xFIP on the season. The 24-year-old right-hander is set to face the Tigers at home next weekend.

    • Hoerner extends hitting streak with home run
      Nico Hoerner went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Brewers on Sunday.

      Advice: It was a quiet afternoon for the Cubs’ offense as they could only muster one run against the Brewers. Hoerner’s home run was just his fourth of the year.       Triple-A Toledo placed Lange (lat) on its full-season injured list Friday.

      Advice: The transaction confirms that the surgery Lange underwent this past week to address a right lat avulsion was indeed season-ending. Though the right-handed reliever is currently on the minor-league IL, the Tigers could recall him and place him on the major-league 60-day IL if the team needs to open up a spot on the 40-man roster at any point.       Cruz went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and a strikeout in Sunday's 4-2 win over Atlanta.

      Advice: Cruz hit a 452-foot missile off Spencer Schwellenbach in the fifth inning to give the Pirates a lead they wouldn't relinquish. It was the third longest homer of his career, and it had an exit velocity of 117.3 MPH, which is also the third hardest of his career. There have been five home runs with exit velocities of 117 or more this season, and Cruz has two of them.       Oneil Cruz hit a two-run homer Sunday in a 4-2 victory for the Pirates over Atlanta.

      Advice: Cruz also singled and walked. The 25-year-old absolutely obliterated a 452-foot shot off Spencer Schwellenbach to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead with Jack Suwinski on base at that time. Cruz continues to frustrate in what is essentially his first full season of MLB action, but games like this one remind that there are very few players in the sport who have as much talent.       Guardians optioned RHP Triston McKenzie to Triple-A Columbus.

      Advice: McKenzie gets the boot with the Guardians bringing Gavin Williams (elbow) off the 60-day injured list to make his season debut this week. McKenzie has been awful on the mound as of late while allowing 12 earned runs and walking 11 over his last three starts. There’s still plenty of reason for long-term optimism as a 26-year-old who has had as much success as he’s had, but fantasy managers should look elsewhere for help in their rotation at this point.       Advice: Williams will make his season debut this week against the White Sox after missing the first three months of the season with his elbow trouble. The 24-year-old right-hander is one of the most talented hurlers on the Cleveland roster, and while there may be some rust to clear even after making rehab starts, he is well worth fantasy consideration — especially against a team like the White Sox.       The Guardians reinstated Williams (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Sunday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Cleveland designated right-hander Darren McCaughan for assignment and demoted right-hander Triston McKenzie to Triple-A Columbus to clear spots on the 40-man roster, 26-man active roster and in the rotation for Williams, who is poised to make his 2024 debut for the Guardians during the club's three-game series versus the White Sox this week. Williams had been on the shelf all season after injuring his right elbow during a weighted-ball workout in spring training, but he looks to be stretched out for starting duty after covering five and four innings in the final two of his six rehab outings at Triple-A Columbus. After turning in a 3.29 ERA in 16 starts as a rookie in 2023, Williams makes for an appealing pickup in shallower formats where he might still be kicking around on the waiver wire.
