    • Throws another bullpen Saturday
Miller (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Miller is now expected to throw a three-inning simulated game within the next few days. Assuming all goes well, he will then embark on a minor-league rehab assignment. The Dodgers haven't said how long they plan on keeping Miller in the minors, but considering he has been on the shelf since April 13, he will likely need to make multiple starts in order to get back to a starter's workload. • Bobby Miller (shoulder) throws bullpen session
Bobby Miller (shoulder) threw a bullpen session at Dodger Stadium on Saturday afternoon without any issues.

Advice: Up next for Miller will be a three-inning simulated game, and if all goes well with that session he’ll finally progress to a minor league rehab assignment. Anticipate that he’ll need at least two starts in the minors before he’s an option to rejoin the Dodgers’ rotation — but he is taking tangible steps in that direction. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:19 pm

    • Getting rare day off
Betts isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds.

Advice: After starting 47 consecutive games and posting an incredible .341/.440/.562 slash line to begin the year, Betts will step out of the lineup for the first time all season. Miguel Rojas will instead start at shortstop while batting ninth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:12 pm

    • Getting breather Saturday
Gurriel isn't in the Diamondbacks' lineup for Saturday's game versus Detroit.

Advice: Gurriel has gone just 1-for-18 with nine strikeouts across his past five games, so the D-backs will give him a day to regroup Saturday. Jake McCarthy, Corbin Carroll and Pavin Smith will start across the outfield while Gurriel rests. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:07 pm
    • Day off Saturday
Lowe isn't in the Rays' lineup for Saturday's game versus Toronto, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Lowe has struck out six times in his last two games, so the Rays will sit him down Saturday and give him a chance to clear his head. In his absence, Jonny DeLuca will start in right field while batting fifth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:44 am

    • Notches fifth hold
Matsui earned a hold against Atlanta on Friday, walking one batter and striking out two over two-thirds of an inning.

Advice: Matsui was called upon with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning with the trying run at the plate, and he struck out Michael Harris to end the frame. The lefty reliever then struck out Orlando Arcia to begin the seventh before walking Adam Duvall, which got him the hook. Interestingly, usual closer Robert Suarez was deployed in a high-leverage spot in the eighth frame Friday, but Matsui -- who was expected to compete for the ninth-inning role after working mostly as a closer during his 10-year career in Japan -- wasn't available to close since he had already been used. If Suarez sees more work before the ninth, it's possible Matsui gets an occasional save chance, though he's mostly struggled in May, allowing four runs on five hits while posting a 6:6 K:BB over 4.2 innings covering six appearances. • Sharp in second win
Cortes (2-4) picked up the win in Friday's 4-2 victory over the White Sox, allowing one unearned run on five hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out six.

Advice: An error by Oswaldo Cabrera in the third inning led to the only damage off Cortes, who tossed 63 of 93 pitches for strikes in his fifth quality start of the season. The southpaw has been effective when he's been able to keep the ball in the park; he's served up multiple homers in three of his last seven outings, stumbling to a 6.06 ERA in those starts but not giving up an earned run in the other four. Cortes will take an overall 3.56 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 57:12 K:BB through 60.2 innings into his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Mariners. • Ryan Pressly dealing with finger soreness
Ryan Pressly is day-to-day with right finger soreness.

Advice: Astros manager Joe Espada didn’t seem to think it was a big deal when talking to reporters afterwards, but it sounds like Pressly could wind up getting a few days off as a result. There should be an update on his status at some point this weekend. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:41 am

    • Blake Snell strikes out 10 in rehab start Friday
Blake Snell (adductor) recorded 10 strikeouts over five hitless innings on Friday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: He’s ready. The plan all along had been for Snell to rejoin the Giants’ rotation next week as long as this start went well, and he was nearly perfect, allowing just one walk over five frames. The 31-year-old reigning NL Cy Young Award winner should slot back into San Francisco’s rotation against the Pirates in Pittsburgh next week. Prior to landing on the injured list, Snell had gone 0-3 with a bloated 11.57 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 12/5 K/BB ratio across 11 2/3 innings (three starts). Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:30 am
