• Hunter Greene posts nine strikeouts vs. Pirates
Hunter Greene matched a season-high with nine strikeouts over 6 1/3 shutout innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: Greene locked horns with Pirates starter Mitch Keller in a throwback pitcher’s duel on Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park, limiting Pittsburgh’s lineup to just four baserunners (two hits and a pair of hit batters) into the seventh inning. The hard-throwing 24-year-old right-hander’s four-seam fastball velocity was up slightly in this one to 98.5 mph as he generated an impressive 17 swinging strikes, with 16 of those courtesy of his fastball/slider combo. It was a relief to see him avoid handing out any free passes in this one after issuing a season-high five walks in his previous outing. He’ll carry a solid 3.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 98/37 K/BB ratio across 88 2/3 innings (15 starts) into a rematch against the Pirates on Tuesday back in Cincinnati. Rotoworld 53 minutes ago

  • Nolan Arenado exits after taking pitch off right elbow
Nolan Arenado left Wednesday’s game against the Marlins after being hit on the right elbow by a pitch.

Advice: Arenado was still in a whole lot of pain and not moving his arm as he was helped off. José Fermín replaced him in the contest. If Arenado goes on the IL, Fermín would stand to benefit, but the Cardinals could also give Brandon Donovan more infield time. Rotoworld 53 minutes ago

  • Shelved with back inflammation
The Guardians placed Sandlin on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with lower back inflammation, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Sandlin's move to the IL comes three days after he was lit up for three earned runs on three hits and two walks while failing to record an out in his relief appearance in Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays. The Guardians called up right-hander Darren McCaughan from Triple-A Columbus to replace Sandlin in the bullpen. Rotowire.com 54 minutes ago

  • Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) gets good news after MRI
Eduardo Rodriguez’s MRI over the weekend came back as hoped, and he could throw off a mound next week.

Advice: Rodriguez has been sidelined since the spring with a lat strain. The best-case scenario at this point is probably for a return shortly after the All-Star break. Rotoworld 56 minutes ago
  • Alek Thomas’s rehab assignment on hold
Alek Thomas’s rehab assignment is again on hold as he deals with soreness, but he could resume playing in games this weekend.

Advice: Thomas has had a tough time making his way back from a hamstring injury suffered March 31. He had a significant setback on his original rehab assignment in early May, and while this doesn’t seem to be nearly as serious, his body continues to hold him back. Thomas last played for the Rookie ACL Diamondbacks on Monday, going 3-for-3 with a double. Rotoworld 58 minutes ago

  • Drawing fifth straight start
Schneemann will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Schneemann will make his fifth straight start and will occupy his third different position over that span. The utility player has already been used at six different positions since being called up at the beginning of the month and is maintaining a 1.115 OPS over his first 33 big-league plate appearances. • Rehab assignment paused
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Thomas' (hamstring) rehab assignment has been paused due to "general soreness," Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Lovullo added that he's "very" optimistic Thomas will be able to resume the rehab assignment later this week, so it would appear this isn't a significant setback. Thomas had a bigger setback back in early May with his left hamstring, an injury which has kept him on the shelf since early April. The goal has been for Thomas to be activated June 25 at the start of a homestand, but that date might be pushed back a bit now even if he's able to resume playing rehab games this weekend. • Getting spot start Wednesday
Liberatore will start Wednesday's game in Miami in place of the injured Kyle Gibson (back), Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Gibson was a late scratch, forcing the Cardinals to turn to Liberatore, who threw 12 pitches and allowed one run over two-thirds of an inning in a relief appearance during Tuesday's loss to the Marlins. Liberatore has made three starts for St. Louis this season, but his last one came a month ago. He hasn't thrown more than 23 pitches in an appearance since then and will be going on zero days' rest Wednesday, so he'll presumably be in store for an abbreviated outing. • Big day in extra-inning win
Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a double, a three-run home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's extra-inning win over the Cardinals.

Advice: The 26-year-old got the Marlins' offense rolling by taking Lance Lynn deep during the first inning of an eventual 9-8 victory. It was Sanchez's first homer and first multi-hit performance in June, snapping a 13-game swoon in which he'd gone just 8-for-43 (.186) with a 0:15 BB:K. On the season, he's slashing .241/.286/.365 with five homers, six steals, 18 runs and 27 RBI in 65 contests. Rotowire.com Today, 8:33 am
