• Completes 15-pitch side session
Hendriks (elbow) threw a bullpen session Wednesday consisting of about 15 fastballs, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Hendriks was back on the mound for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last August and was upbeat following the workout. The veteran reliever believes he can make it back from the 60-day injured list by the end of August, but he's not far along enough in the rehab process yet for the Red Sox to put a definitive target date on his return. The Red Sox signed Hendriks to a two-year deal in February with the understanding that anything the right-hander gave the club in 2024 would be a bonus, so the team likely doesn't have any visions of the three-time All-Star supplanting Kenley Jansen as the team's closer when he eventually returns. • Brady Singer settles for no-decision vs. Marlins
Brady Singer allowed one run over 7 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Marlins.

Advice: Singer surrendered a run-scoring single to Nick Fortes in the second inning, which represented the lone tally against him in this one. Unfortunately, Kansas City’s offense didn’t respond with any run support until after his exit from the contest when they put up five runs in the eighth inning. The 27-year-old righty finished with five strikeouts and only issued one walk in his longest outing of the year so far. He’ll bring a strong 3.12 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 85/26 K/BB ratio across 89 1/3 innings (16 starts) into a home matchup on Tuesday against the Rays. Rotoworld Today, 2:23 pm

  • Spencer Arrighett whiffs 10 in seven-inning gem
Spencer Arrighetti struck out 10 over seven shutout innings on Wednesday in a win over the Rockies.

Advice: Arrighetti put together the strongest outing of his rookie campaign yet on Wednesday afternoon at Minute Maid Park, scattering three hits over seven scoreless frames, while recording his first-ever double-digit strikeout performance. The 24-year-old top pitching prospect generated 13 swinging strikes and finished with a near-elite 39 percent CSW. It’s notable that this unexpectedly brilliant effort comes after he was torched by the White Sox and Tigers, respectively, in his previous two outings. There’s definitely some streaming appeal here for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues, but he’s been the quintessential boom-or-bust dice roll over the last few weeks. He’ll square off against the struggling Blue Jays on Tuesday in his next outing. Rotoworld Today, 1:59 pm

  • Ryan Feltner gives up four runs in loss to Astros
Ryan Feltner allowed four runs over six innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Astros.

Advice: Feltner managed to hang in there into the middle innings, limiting Houston’s formidable lineup to just a pair of run-scoring singles, until the metaphorical wheels came off in the seventh inning. He was lifted after giving up back-to-back singles to open the frame, but reliever Tyler Kinley allowed both of those inherited runners to eventually cross the plate. He finished with two strikeouts and only handed out one free pass. He’ll bring an inflated 6.02 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 75/23 K/BB ratio across 86 2/3 innings (16 starts) into a home matchup on Wednesday against the Brewers. Rotoworld Today, 1:58 pm

  • Luis Ortiz posts seven strikeouts in win over Reds
Luis Ortiz notched seven strikeouts and allowed one run over six innings on Wednesday in a win over the Reds.

Advice: After serving up six runs over four innings last Friday in relief against the Rays, Ortiz rebounded in this one by authored a brilliant performance against the division-rival Reds. He generated an eye-popping 19 swinging strikes, with seven of those coming on his slide alone, and finished with a robust 34 percent CSW. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen flashes of potential from the hard-throwing 25-year-old former top prospect, but he’s worth monitoring moving forward in the event that Pittsburgh starts to lean on him more as a traditional starter. The addition of a cutter to his arsenal this season has made him less reliant on his four-seam fastball/slider combo, especially against southpaws. Rotoworld Today, 1:43 pm

  • Graham Ashcraft allows two homers in loss to Pirates
Graham Ashcraft was lit up for six runs over 5 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Ashcraft’s struggles with keeping the ball in the yard persisted in this one as he surrendered nine hits, including a pair of homers. He was in the contest early before giving up a solo shot to Rowdy Tellez, a two-run blast to Andrew McCutchen and was charged with a couple additional runs when reliever Justin Wilson coughed up a two-run double to Jason Delay following his departure. The 26-year-old righty has been hit hard in 13 starts this season with an inflated 5.45 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 52/22 K/BB ratio across 67 2/3 innings of work. He’s not a recommended fantasy option if the Reds elect to hand him the ball on Tuesday against the Yankees. Rotoworld Today, 1:42 pm

  • Undergoing MRI on forearm
Smith will undergo an MRI after feeling tightness in his right forearm while playing catch Wednesday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Smith missed a chunk of time earlier this season with a shoulder problem and now has another arm issue to contend with. The righty has been a high-leverage reliever for the Mets this season when healthy, posting a 3.06 ERA and 23:9 K:BB over 17.2 frames. Rotowire.com Today, 1:22 pm

  • Drew Smith (forearm) heading for MRI exam
Mets’ right-hander Drew Smith will undergo an MRI exam on his injured forearm on Wednesday.

Advice: Mets’ skipper Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday that Smith felt tightness in his forearm after his last outing, so they’ll get some imaging done to see exactly what’s going on there. It’s unclear whether or not they’ll place him on the injured list and make a roster move prior to Wednesday’s game, but it not they’ll be two-men down in their bullpen with Edwin Diaz currently serving his suspension. • Liam Hendriks (elbow) throws fastballs off mound
Liam Hendriks threw 15 fastballs Wednesday in his first mound session since elbow surgery last August.

Advice: He’s not busting out the slider just yet. “I’m the only guy in here throwing fastballs.” he said afterwards. Hendriks is hoping to convince the Red Sox to let him aim for an August return, though that’s still up in the air. Rotoworld Today, 12:58 pm
