      Advice: When Hicks wasn’t pitching to Aaron Judge, things went ok. Unfortunately, he pitched to Aaron Judge a few times, and he gave up two homers to the mountain of a slugger. Hicks did give up eight hits in this contest, so it wasn’t just Aaron Judge, but Aaron Judge did most of the damage. This blurb is just an excuse to talk more about Aaron Judge.       Civale didn't factor into the decision Friday against Baltimore, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Civale was sharp Friday, blanking the Orioles for five innings before he was ultimately charged with a lone run in the sixth. The 28-year-old Civale has been pitching better of late, allowing just three runs over 10.1 innings in his last two starts after struggling to an 8.48 ERA over his previous six outings. Overall, he's 2-4 on the year with a 5.37 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 60:18 K:BB across 62 innings. Civale's currently lined up for a rematch with Baltimore at home in his next start.       Iglesias allowed a run in the ninth inning while picking up a save against Oakland on Friday.

      Advice: Iglesias notched his 14th save of the year with a fascinating outing. He gave up a leadoff double to Zack Gelof before recording three outs on three consecutive pitches. Gelof would come in to score after two straight groundouts but Atlanta secured the 4-2 win. Iglesias has converted six straight save chances and owns a 2.53 ERA through 21.1 innings.       Aaron Civale pitched 5 1/3 innings on Friday against the Orioles and allowed one earned run. He struck out three and walked one.

      Advice: Civale has simplified his approach of late. This was his seventh consecutive start throwing his cutter at least 30% of the time and the third time in four starts where he’s thrown it 40% of the time. The final results were solid here against one of the best offenses in baseball, but Civale induced just six swings and misses while the Orioles hit 10 balls hard.       Raisel Iglesias picked up his 14th save despite giving up a run in the ninth Friday against the A’s.

    • Kenta Maeda struggles in loss to Red Sox on Friday
      Kenta Maeda struggled in Friday night’s loss to the Red Sox, giving up five runs on eight hits over his 4 2/3 innings.

      Advice: On the plus side, Maeda was able to punch out six batters on the night while allowing just two walks. He was able to keep the Red Sox off the board through the first three innings, but they broke through for four runs in the fourth inning — including a three-run blast off the bat of Ceddanne Rafaela. Maeda got 11 swings and misses on 85 pitches on the evening, registering a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll look to improve upon a troublesome 6.25 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and a 30/12 K/BB ratio (40 1/3 innings) when he toes the slab against the Rangers in Arlington on Wednesday.       Tommy Edman (wrist) was able to take batting practice from the left side of the plate for the first time on Friday.

      Advice: Edman is already eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list, but he’s still not close to being ready. The fact that he’s now able to face live pitching from both sides of the plate though is an encouraging sign and perhaps a minor league rehab assignment could be in the cards soon.
